Chapter 230: Chapter 219: I’ll Take You In (Second Release)
Summer Witch
Tong Airui sat in front of the computer, his eyes fixed on the movements on the screen. Yi Luowa sat silently by his side. This was his special permission; otherwise, she wouldn’t be here wasting her time on him.
Tong Airui chuckled softly, "Kai Di is just too arrogant. She thinks Randy dotes on her and will indulge her whims, but as a ruler, without some level of cunning, how could he possibly govern this nation?"
Yi Luowa nodded quietly.
Tong Airui turned his head to glance at her, "What’s wrong? You’re so quiet."
"You’re dealing with official matters. I didn’t want to disturb you." Yi Luowa shifted her gaze from the screen to Tong Airui’s face, curling her lips lightly. "Fourth Brother, I’ll go get you a glass of water, okay?"
Tong Airui ruffled her hair. "I’m not thirsty. I forgot you girls don’t enjoy watching such things. Why don’t you head downstairs and chat with Grandma and Mom for a while?"
Yi Luowa shook her head. "I want to know the outcome. Fourth Brother, Kai Di said Emperor Hao Tian seized his brother’s wife. Is that true?"
"I heard that Emperor Hao Tian’s queen was previously his brother’s girlfriend. Because of this woman, the brothers turned against each other. But as for Emperor Hao Tian’s character, I know him somewhat. He’s not the type for something like that—there’s definitely a story behind it."
"Judging by Emperor Hao Tian’s demeanor, he doesn’t strike me as that kind of person either. But this Kai Di, she’s so overbearing and reckless. I have a theory—her current status is entirely due to Emperor Hao Tian’s ’work.’ He indulged her, waited for her to grow unsalvageably arrogant, and once things reached their climax, it all came crashing down." Yi Luowa pointed to the screen. "Look, he’s still waiting—I think he’s waiting for Kai Di’s men to reveal themselves so he can take them all down in one fell swoop."
Tong Airui stared at her intently. "I didn’t expect you to pick up on all that!"
"Just guessing." Yi Luowa smiled and leaned against his shoulder, rubbing lightly against it. "Luckily, you weren’t born into a royal family. Otherwise, you might have faced the same thing."
"No," Tong Airui replied. "This comes down to family upbringing. With our family, nothing like that would ever happen."
Yi Luowa grinned, "True, you all are so close it’s enviable."
They kept watching and waiting until half an hour later, Emperor Hao Tian finally made his move—as Yi Luowa predicted, Kai Di’s men revealed themselves, and then he acted.
Kai Di had quite a few people on her side. However, no matter how many people she had, they couldn’t compare to Emperor Hao Tian’s forces. When his hidden soldiers emerged from the shadows and warplanes roared through the sky, Kai Di was stunned. Despite being Hao Tian’s general for so many years, she had no idea such troops even existed.
If she fought, surely, she couldn’t win!
If she didn’t fight, the facade was already shattered!
A gunshot rang out from behind. Kai Di turned to look back, only to see her most favored male companion collapse into a pool of blood, convulse briefly, and then die.
Yuan Hang held the gun, lightly blowing on its barrel, and gazed at her mockingly. "If you want all five to end up like him, go ahead and start the war."
Kai Di’s eyes rolled back in pain, and she collapsed.
At the computer, Yi Luowa shook her head and stood up. "Still a romantic soul. But for a woman to achieve what she has, it’s worth it—even if it’s a new lover every night."
Tong Airui glared at her darkly. "Jealous?"
Yi Luowa nodded and then dashed out laughing.
"Yi Luowa, you just wait!" If not for the unresolved Hao Tian matters, he’d chase her down and give her a good "beating."
Tong Yao saw Yi Luowa come down and asked with a smile, "Is Rui’er feeling better?"
"Much better, though he’s handling official matters now." Yi Luowa walked over and settled next to Tong Yao, naturally wrapping her arm around hers.
Ni Lu looked at the mother-daughter duo and smiled. "Tong Yao, you’re really lucky—your daughter-in-law is closer to you than your daughter."
Teng Ai Ni pouted, "Auntie, are you trying to stir up trouble between my mom and me?"
Ni Lu laughed. "You little rascal! How am I stirring up trouble? Isn’t your mother the one who spoils you the most?"
"Wrong! I spoil Yi Luowa the most," Tong Yao teased her daughter with a sidelong glance. "A married daughter is like water spilled out of the house; a daughter-in-law is the one who stays with me for life."
Yi Luowa giggled, "Ai Ni, looks like you’re out of a job now."
Teng Ai Ni laughed and made an OK gesture.
Tong Yao gave her an exasperated look. "I know—you’re still upset about how we handled things with You Jia. You’re itching to marry off quickly, but once you’re married and placed in a completely new environment, you’ll realize there’s no place like home. At home, you have family who loves and accepts you. When you join someone else’s family, they’ll treat you like an adult—it’s not the same as how we treat you."
"Mom, I’m not upset!" Teng Ai Ni sidled over, hugged Tong Yao’s shoulders, and shook them playfully. "Don’t talk about unhappy things. Honestly, I’ll miss you all! After all, S Country and Summer Witch are so far apart. If I miss you, coming back will take hours."
"If you don’t want Mom to say it, then don’t bring it up yourself!" Yi Luowa smacked her lightly.
Teng Ai Ni pouted and gave Tong Yao a kiss on the cheek. "I won’t say it anymore, Mom. I’m hungry."
Tong Yao pushed her playfully away. "If you’re hungry, go tell the butler—stop clinging to me."
Teng Ai Ni pouted and got up. Yi Luowa pulled her hand with a smile, "I’ll go with you."
The two headed off to the kitchen and found several chefs still busy. Holding hands, they went together to the dining room. Yi Luowa started explaining her plan for standing up for Long Che, and Teng Ai Ni smiled and nodded.
"I’ll go talk to You Jia about it later."
"Yeah, keep it low-key though. If Dad finds out, he’ll get even angrier."
"Got it, don’t worry." Teng Ai Ni nodded repeatedly.
During lunch, Tong Airui came down himself.
Yi Luowa asked, "Is the matter over?"
"I’m done on my end; the rest is up to them to handle." Tong Airui took the chopsticks Yi Luowa passed him and looked over at Tong Yao. "Mom, I might be busy again in a few days. Do you want to find time to visit Grandpa in Laman before that?"
"Your Second Uncle is still in the hospital—you can’t just head to Laman now, can you?" Tong Yao directed her words at Yi Luowa.
Yi Luowa pressed her lips together. "Mom, no need to consult me. You guys decide, and I’ll follow orders."
"When Ni’er gets engaged, your Grandpa will come here—you’ll meet then..."
Teng Ai Ni teased, "My brother is just scared to get scolded."
"Then I’ll call your Grandpa later to test his mood." Tong Yao shook her head helplessly.
"What mood testing? A group of ingrates!" A booming voice sounded from outside.
Tong Yao’s lips twitched, and she stood up, "Dad! Why do you always sneak attack us?"
Teng Tianxiang strode in stern-faced, supporting Ouyang Beilei. Everyone stood up.
"If I didn’t sneak around, I wouldn’t have known this rascal was sitting at home eating!" Teng Tianxiang snorted.
Tong Airui put on a congenial smile and moved two chairs for the elders. "Grandfather, I just got some free time and was planning to visit you. How come you’re here already?"
Teng Tianxiang ignored him, his gaze shifting to Yi Luowa. "We have a guest in the house, huh?"
That tone—that attitude—it almost made Yi Luowa burst out laughing. The old man was clearly here to stir things up.
Yi Luowa stifled her laugh and gave the elders a deep bow. "Hello, Grandpa! Hello, Grandma! I’m Luowa."
"Luowa, huh? Who’s Luowa?" The old man feigned an exaggerated sense of surprise. This pair of brats wouldn’t come see him, so now he had to come to them himself. If he didn’t mess with them a bit, he’d be holding back his frustration.
Ouyang Beilei shook her head helplessly. "He’s at it again! Everyone sit down—just let him have his little tantrum."
Everyone sat down. Tong Airui and Yi Luowa, however, didn’t dare move. Yi Luowa kept a smile fixed on her face as she addressed Teng Tianxiang, "Grandpa, I’m Tong Airui’s girlfriend. We received your approval before, and that’s why Tong Airui dared to bring me home."
"Oh, really?!" The old man pretended to express shock.
Yi Luowa placed her hands gently on his shoulders and began massaging them. "You must be tired after such a long flight, Grandpa. I’ll help you relax a bit."
Tong Airui felt bad for her and, though annoyed, kept silent, discreetly signaling his sister for help.
Teng Ai Ni cleared her throat. "Grandpa, enough is enough, okay? Mom’s future happiness will depend on my sister-in-law. However you treat my sister-in-law now, that’s how she’ll treat Mom in the future."
Teng Tianxiang snorted, "Your mom is the most ungrateful one—always eager to visit the old Tong instead!"
"Dad! Enough already! Luowa’s leg injury hasn’t healed yet—let her sit down and talk."
Teng Tianxiang suddenly remembered Yi Luowa’s injury and patted her hand. "Child, quick, sit down! Sit down!"
"I’ll listen to Grandpa." Yi Luowa replied cheerfully, and after receiving the tableware from the housekeeper, personally set it up for the elders before sitting down.
Tong Airui clasped her hand apologetically under the table.
Yi Luowa blinked at him and mouthed the words: Don’t worry, I’m good at dealing with difficult elders.
Tong Airui hooked his lips, mouthing back: Both Grandpa and Mom understand lip-reading.
Yi Luowa immediately clamped a hand over her mouth.
Tong Airui laughed, releasing her hand. "Let’s eat. Second Uncle’s situation still needs someone to watch over him. Once you finish your meal, you should head back to the hospital."
"Got it." Yi Luowa knew he was thinking of her well-being and nodded with a smile.
Teng Tianxiang observed the couple and slowly broke into a smile. "Jing Ya, these two really are quite the match!"
Lady Jing Ya smiled warmly. "Indeed! Anyone who sees them says the same. Teng Tianxiang, you and Sister Beilei, come eat quickly. Afterward, you can rest for a bit. Us older folks can’t compare to the younger ones—just sitting for hours on a plane leaves our bones aching."
Since the old man’s arrival caused so much commotion, getting him to nap was the only way to have some peace. With Tong Airui’s declaration that Luowa would head to the hospital after lunch, Jing Ya figured she’d better plan things out. Otherwise, when her son came back tonight, if grandfather and grandson had another clash, none of them would sleep.
After lunch, Yi Luowa stayed to chat for a while, then Tong Airui insisted on driving her back to the hospital. This time, Teng Tianxiang didn’t make a fuss; after all, there were still two patients waiting at the hospital.
As soon as they got into the car, Yi Luowa laughed, "Fourth Brother, you’ve brought me out—what about yourself?"
Tong Airui rubbed his temples. "If you take me in, I’ll stay with you. If not, I’ll head back to Eagle Base."
Yi Luowa laughed, "Well, since you look so pitiful, I guess I’ll take you in."
