Chapter 204: Chapter 195: Sisters through Life and Death (Second Update)
Mi Chenxuan burst into laughter, "Mom, can you stop scaring yourself?"
"And you’re still laughing! I’ll give you something to laugh about!" Yan Zi smacked him twice heavily. "Getting grounded leaves a mark on your record!"
"Oh, oh, so now you suddenly understand the severity! Tingting’s my fourth brother’s comrade-in-arms, no wait—a good brother who’s been through thick and thin. Do you think she’d destroy me?"
To avoid another hit, Mi Chenxuan quickly sat on the sofa opposite his mom before finishing his sentence.
"You’re just worrying about nonsense! Even hypothetically, if I do end up with a tarnished record and Shen Ying won’t accept me, then I’ll just follow my fourth sister-in-law instead. She’ll need help when she’s racing, right? I’ll become one of those pit crew guys like on TV—you know, changing tires at lightning speed. It’s so cool! A few seconds and it’s done. I’m planning to practice that."
"Look at your lack of ambition!" Yan Zi fumed. "I won’t bother with you anymore! Wait till your dad gets home, I’ll let him take care of you!" Yan Zi stomped upstairs in a huff.
Mi Chenxuan raised his right arm, waving it with a grin, "Take care, not seeing you out~"
Yan Zi was so enraged she almost stumbled and fell.
Terrified, Mi Chenxuan dashed over to support her, but Yan Zi’s palm landed swiftly on him.
"Ungrateful child! I’ll beat you to death!"
After taking two hits, Mi Chenxuan rubbed his arm and said, "Tingting clearly told me when she let me out that she wouldn’t report this to Xia Wu. I haven’t ruined my future!"
"Really?" Yan Zi asked suspiciously.
"Really!"
Yan Zi snorted, "I’ll go confirm it myself. If it’s not as you say, don’t bother coming home. Our family doesn’t tolerate ungrateful kids like you!"
Mi Chenxuan watched his mom head upstairs while grinning cheekily, then ran back, calling out, "Little sis! I heard our fourth brother went to Haotian. Want me to take you to find him? We could hang out there for a few days."
Yi Luowa felt a flicker of curiosity at his proposal but ultimately shook her head. "No."
"Why not? Don’t you miss our fourth brother?"
Yi Luowa pouted. "I do, but I can’t go and cause trouble for him. If I go find him, he’ll get distracted."
"Fine, I’ll go by myself," Mi Chenxuan snorted at her.
Tong Ai Ni had been tolerating him all day. Now, the more she looked at him, the more she couldn’t stand him. Seeing him dare to snort, she immediately flipped him onto the sofa.
"Help—my sixth sister is hitting me!"
The louder Mi Chenxuan yelled, the harder Tong Ai Ni hit him, while everyone else in the house acted as though they hadn’t heard or seen anything, continuing their own business.
Yi Luowa watched the two of them with a smile, occasionally adding, "Ai Ni, are you tired? If you are, let me take over and hit him for a bit."
"I’m fine for now," Tong Ai Ni replied and gave Mi Chenxuan another slap on the backside before finally letting him go.
Mi Chenxuan clambered up, rubbing his butt. "Why is it always the butt? Can’t you find a new spot to smack?"
"Next time, I’ll slap your face!" Tong Ai Ni waved her hand in front of his eyes, "Now hand over your phone!"
"Don’t have it. Tingting confiscated it." Mi Chenxuan pouted. "There was so much on it, now I’ll have to redownload everything."
Tong Ai Ni glared at him, "No downloading any of that rubbish again! You’re not a child anymore. Can you stop making auntie and uncle worry about you?"
Mi Chenxuan asked, frowning, "What’s going on with our family’s third child?"
"We’re talking about you, why are you asking about him!" Tong Ai Ni huffed with irritation. "Not a single one of you is easy to deal with."
"As long as you’re easy to deal with, that’s good enough." Mi Chenxuan grinned. "So, when are you and You Jia getting engaged? Have you set the date?"
"We’ll decide when my fourth brother gets back." Tong Ai Ni sighed, "With all of you like this, even after getting married, I won’t be at ease."
Yi Luowa and Mi Chenxuan exchanged glances, both bursting into laughter.
After lunch, Yi Luowa headed back to the hospital. Tong Aino and Connie weren’t back yet, so the job of escorting her fell to Mi Chenxuan, who eagerly tagged along. You’d think getting beaten earlier would make him behave, but no—he kept pestering Yi Luowa about her thoughts on that "tutorial."
Unable to endure his antics anymore, Yi Luowa gave him a beating before he finally quieted down.
The next day, the whole family started boarding their flights.
Yi Luowa sat on the plane, her emotions complicated as she watched the imperial city fade into the distance. She silently said to herself: Farewell, my nightmare!
By afternoon, the plane landed at Xia Wu Royal Airport, where ambulances were already waiting outside. Yi Weiyang and Ao Xiang were taken to Xia Wu Royal Hospital immediately upon disembarking.
Ming Kaikai and Jimo Shanshan accompanied them the whole way. They were surprisingly well-behaved this time, not squabbling at all.
It was Yi Luowa’s first time visiting Xia Wu Imperial City. Observing its buildings, streets, and pedestrians, had it not been for the lack of conversation, she might have thought she was still back in Z Country’s imperial city.
With nearly a millennium of history, Xia Wu was said to have originated as a Z Country duke’s territory during the Qing dynasty. Later, the duke declared independence and established the Xia Wu kingdom, though many customs rooted in their ancestral traditions were still preserved.
A hundred years ago, Xia Wu had been a small country. Over the past century, ongoing expansion paired with a booming economy had quickly elevated it into a global powerhouse.
Long Che and Tong Yao accompanied Yi Luowa to the hospital. In the hallway, Yi Luowa spotted an elderly man with purple eyes and an elegant older woman.
Tong Yao smiled and asked, "Uncle, Mom, why are you here?"
"The in-laws arrived, so we came to check in," Lady Jing Ya replied warmly with a smile, walking over to Yi Weiyang’s hospital bed alongside Charles.
Yi Weiyang was visibly moved; he had not expected Lady Jing Ya to come visit. Yi Weiyang gestured for Yi Luowa to help him sit up, but Ming Kaikai quickly intervened. "Second uncle, you’re a patient. You shouldn’t get too excited or sit up. After such a long journey, you need rest."
Lady Jing Ya nodded with a smile, "Mr. Yi, listen to Kaikai—he’s a doctor. We’ve got plenty of time to catch up."
Yi Weiyang nodded as well. Being a weakened patient, he realized he’d better heed medical advice to avoid causing any more trouble for everyone.
Lady Jing Ya’s gaze settled on Yi Luowa’s face. Her grandson had sent her this child’s photograph, but seeing her in person today—she was far more beautiful than the picture conveyed.
Yi Luowa gave a sweet smile and greeted, "Grandfather and grandmother, hello."
Lady Jing Ya beamed brightly. "Good, good! This child is so well-mannered and lovely."
Ming Kaikai adjusted his glasses and chimed in, "Grandmother, you can rest assured—she’s definitely going to become your granddaughter-in-law. Now, let’s talk later; I need to escort second uncle to his room."
Lady Jing Ya chuckled and pulled Yi Luowa aside. "Ah, look at me—I’m getting forgetful in my old age."
Charles laughed, "You’re still as spirited as ever. Seeing your granddaughter-in-law will make you feel even younger."
Yi Luowa smiled bashfully, "Grandfather, seeing you doesn’t feel unfamiliar at all—Duoduo and Monica’s features resemble yours quite a bit."
"The purple eyes! Haha!" Charles laughed heartily. "I hear Little Droplet said Duoduo clings to you all the time."
"I enjoy his company," Yi Luowa said, glancing at her second uncle as Ming Kaikai and Jimo Shanshan helped Xia Wu’s doctors move him into his room.
Lady Jing Ya patted Yi Luowa’s hand gently, "Let’s head inside together and take a look."
Yi Luowa stuck her tongue out discreetly. Sister Rain had told her that grandmother was as easygoing as her mother. It turned out to be true—not only were they approachable, but also incredibly understanding. A mere look from her, and grandma could sense her intent.
After Yi Weiyang was settled in, Lady Jing Ya left several servants behind to assist the family in acclimating to their new environment. Having locals around made things more convenient.
Long Che liaised closely with the hospital’s staff, and after reviewing the diagnostic reports, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Yi Weiyang’s condition was stable and only required rest before discharge. Ao Lie was already fine, while Ao Xiang’s leg injury needed a bit longer to heal.
Seeing everyone gathered around him, Yi Weiyang felt a little uncomfortable. A bunch of high-profile figures watching over him—a small civilian—it was all because of Yi Luowa’s prominence.
"I’m fine now. You all should go back," he said.
"Alright, we’ll leave today and come check on you tomorrow," Tong Yao said, noticing his unease. "Mind lending us Luowa for the day?"
"Luowa belongs with you anyway; she should go for a visit," Yi Weiyang said with a smile, looking toward Yi Luowa. "Don’t forget to bring the gifts. Otherwise, it’d be impolite."
Yi Luowa nodded warmly, then followed Tong Yao and Lady Jing Ya out the door.
"Why didn’t Yan Zi come back with you all?" Lady Jing Ya asked Tong Yao as they exited.
Tong Yao smiled, "Not everyone could fit onto one plane. We split across three or four flights, and they’ll return by dinner. The younger ones, however, arrived earlier."
"Ah," Lady Jing Ya nodded with a smile. "Where’s Kaikai?"
"Here, grandmother," Ming Kaikai answered, approaching from behind.
Lady Jing Ya noticed Jimo Shanshan following him and smiled. "This child looks a bit familiar."
"Mo Bao’s fifth daughter," Tong Yao mentioned with a grin.
Jimo Shanshan smiled sheepishly, "Hello, grandmother."
"I thought so! Come here and let grandma have a look."
Jimo Shanshan didn’t hesitate this time and quickly walked around Ming Kaikai to approach.
Lady Jing Ya smiled, taking each girl by hand, and led them into the elevator. "Shanshan has grown up beautifully."
"Grandmother hasn’t changed a bit—still youthful and elegant like ten years ago," Jimo Shanshan said earnestly. It wasn’t mere flattery: Lady Jing Ya’s excellent self-care truly defied her seventy-plus years.
The royal hospital was only about twenty minutes from the Duke’s residence. During the ride, Lady Jing Ya never let go of Yi Luowa’s hand. As they neared their destination, she gazed at the girl with affection. "There will be many people here later. Don’t be scared; just stay by grandmother’s side."
Yi Luowa nodded obediently, though she privately wondered how many people Grandma thought would be there to make her worry about being overwhelmed!
