Billionaire in Love: From Divorce to Destiny -
Chapter 20 - "But She's Your Sister-in-Law!"
Chapter 20. “But She’s Your Sister-in-Law!”
A few minutes later.
In the living room.
Bai Cheng and Lin Meizhi sat stiffly on the sofa, their faces dark. Their eyes gleamed coldly, like beasts ready to pounce on their prey.
Across from them.
Ye Chen and Bai Xiyan sat on small stools, both lowering their heads.
Thud!
Bai Cheng tossed the marriage certificate onto the coffee table and said coldly, “Achen, explain. What exactly is going on here?”
Ye Chen licked his lips, gathered his thoughts, and spoke calmly, “The situation is simple—after Xiyi and I divorced, Xiyan and I got married.”
Bai Cheng’s facial muscles twitched. “That’s it? Just like that?”
Ye Chen nodded. “Yes, just like that.”
Bai Cheng felt a surge of frustration.
Beside him, Lin Meizhi frowned. “But why Xiyan? She’s your sister-in-law!”
Ye Chen grinned. “Well—Mom, Dad, you’ve both always treated me well. Even though Xiyi and I divorced due to incompatibility, I didn’t want to remarry someone else and have to start over with new in-laws.
So—I married Xiyan instead. That way, even after the divorce, nothing much changes. You’re still my parents-in-law, and I can keep taking care of you both. Isn’t that the best of both worlds?”
Cough, cough, cough—
Bai Cheng choked on his own breath.
Lin Meizhi, however, relaxed slightly, an odd hint of smugness flashing across her face.
Hmph, hmph, hmph— “Good that you know we’ve treated you well!”
Bai Cheng coughed again, cutting in. “What kind of logic is that?! By your reasoning, we should be happy that after divorcing Xiyi, you went ahead and married Xiyan?
First, I gave you my elder daughter in marriage, and after the divorce, you go after the younger one? Achen, that’s not how things work!”
Bai Xiyan pressed her lips together, then lifted her chin defiantly. “Dad, what do you mean, ‘went after’? I wanted this!
Besides, I liked him first! I told my sister about my feelings, and the very next day, she started chasing him!
If we’re talking about who came first, then she stole my man! She’s the one who took him from me!”
???
Bai Cheng’s eyes nearly bulged out of his skull. He was completely dumbfounded.
What the hell?!
There was that kind of history?
And since when did his daughter start siding with an outsider so quickly?
Lin Meizhi frowned. “Is that true?”
Bai Xiyan scoffed. “If you don’t believe me, go ask her yourself. Ever since we were kids, she’s taken everything I liked.
I always let her have her way—even the man I loved, she had to snatch him from me. Do you think I went abroad for no reason?
She was the one who insisted on divorcing Chen. It’s been two or three months since then, and she hasn’t mentioned reconciliation even once.
I came back from overseas to reclaim the man I lost—what’s wrong with that?
I didn’t steal him from her. After the divorce, Chen was single. We’re both consenting adults. Why are you making such a big deal out of this?
Your younger daughter has finally found happiness, a man she can rely on—shouldn’t you be happy for me?”
Bai Xiyan fired off her words like a machine gun, leaving Bai Cheng and Lin Meizhi utterly speechless.
They lowered their heads, silently digesting her outburst.
“But Xiyan…” Lin Meizhi finally said, “Achen was still your brother-in-law.”
Bai Xiyan shook her head firmly. “That was before. Now, he’s my husband—we’re legally married!
As for my sister? At most, she’s my husband’s ex-wife. If anything, he should be calling her ‘elder sister’ now.”
Bai Cheng’s lips twitched. He clutched his chest, utterly defeated.
Lin Meizhi scratched her head, her mind buzzing.
After two minutes of silence, she looked up.
“I’m not talking to you—you’ve always been full of crafty ideas!”
She turned to Ye Chen. “Achen, didn’t you think about how Xiyi would feel about this?”
Ye Chen was silent for a moment.
Then, with a solemn expression, he said, “Dad, Mom, you both saw how things were between Xiyi and me during our marriage.
Even though I didn’t spend excessive hours at work, my career was thriving. I had loyal managers handling day-to-day operations—I only needed to oversee major decisions.
I structured things that way because I wanted to focus on our family, to spend more time with Xiyi.
But you saw how it turned out. She always thought I didn’t work hard enough, that I wasn’t ambitious enough.
The truth is, to me, career success is just a bonus. What I truly wanted was a warm family life.
Every single fight we had in that year of marriage was about the same issue.
I was exhausted. I’m just an ordinary man—I have no interest in pretending money means nothing to me.
Divorcing Xiyi wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. I thought it through carefully.
And once I made that choice, I had no regrets. As for how she feels now? I don’t care. I gave her all the love and attention she needed—she was the one who didn’t value it.
As for marrying Xiyan—yes, the reason I gave earlier was sincere. But more importantly, Xiyan and I are simply a better match.
We cook together, go grocery shopping together, play games at home, exercise, do whatever we feel like doing.
And—she’s willing to have children with me. You know Xiyi always refused.
My mother back home kept asking about grandchildren, but Xiyi wouldn’t budge.
Dad, tell me—after divorcing a wife like that, why would I ignore a better option just to reconcile with her?
Any sane man would make the same choice, wouldn’t he?”
