Chapter 27: The Unstoppable Shen Teng – The Rise of a Nepotism Darling Begins!
“Cut! That’s a wrap!”
With the director’s shout, filming for Hello Mr. Billionaire officially concluded.
Shen Teng exhaled deeply. Finally, of all the movies he’d worked on, this one had been the most grueling.
Though he never showed it outwardly, the entire crew knew of his displeasure with the female lead, Song Yunye.
Shen Teng had taken two days off every week to film Trump Card, the variety show.
Ever since Episode 8 aired—the one where he brought his “nephew” Shen Lang as a guest—Shen Teng had been preoccupied with paving the way for the young actor.
“I’m heading out. Got things to handle. See you around.”
Without another word, Shen Teng left the set.
Song Yunye: “…”
Oh, so your nephew isn’t a nepotism baby?
She seethed internally but dared not voice her thoughts.
Directors Yan Fei and Peng Damo exchanged glances before announcing, “Alright, everyone, pack up! Tonight’s wrap party—no one leaves sober!”
“Long live the directors!”
Even if the lead actor had ditched them, the crew was more than ready to celebrate. Months of hard work deserved proper revelry.
Behind the Scenes
Shen Teng headed straight to a hotel to meet director Han Han.
“Director Han, let’s cut to the chase. No matter what the investors want, my condition is this: If I’m playing the lead, Shen Lang must play the rich second-generation role.”
“That’s my only demand. Agree, and I’m in. Refuse, and I’ll focus all my energy on prepping for this year’s Spring Festival Gala.”
He smirked self-deprecatingly. “Last year, they cut me last minute. This time, I’ll make sure they can’t.”
“Oh, and I’m bringing Lang with me.”
“Today’s April 18th—nearly ten months until next year’s gala. Plenty of time to polish a solid skit.”
“I’m not expecting another Don’t Worry, Be Happy phenomenon like Zhao Benshan and Xiao Shenyang, but I can make Lang an overnight star.”
“If the investors won’t back him, I’ll use every connection I’ve got.”
His gaze burned into Han Han. “So, Director Han. What’s your answer?”
“Yes or no. If it’s no, this is our last meeting. I’ll spend the next ten months solely on gala prep.”
Han Han: “…”
Personally, he couldn’t care less who played the role—Shen Lang or Huang Jinyu were equally interchangeable as plot devices.
What he needed was Shen Teng’s box-office draw.
“Silence means refusal, then. Pity.”
Shen Teng stood. “See you around, Director.”
“Wait—!”
Han Han gritted his teeth. “Fine. I agree.”
“What about the investors?”
“I’ll handle them.”
“I hope you keep your word. No last-minute recasts like what happened with Hello Mr. Billionaire.”
“It won’t happen. I’ll make them bend.”
Investors funded his movies to make money—not just to push their favorites.
And money, Han Han knew, would always trump nepotism.
The Nephew’s Surprise
Shen Teng’s sudden appearance at The Untamed’s crew hotel left Shen Lang speechless.
He’d just made plans with his ex-girlfriend Meng Ziyi for a night out—now those plans were ruined.
“Uncle Teng, what are you doing here?”
“Movie’s wrapped. Came to visit my favorite nephew on set.”
“At this hour?”
“I’m family. Since when do I need an appointment?”
Shen Teng narrowed his eyes. “You hiding someone in there?”
On cue, Meng Ziyi emerged from Shen Lang’s room. “Lang, I’m ready to—”
She froze mid-sentence at the sight of Shen Teng.
“H-Hello, Uncle Teng!”
Instantly, she switched to sweet, demure mode—the perfect future niece-in-law.
Shen Lang could only sigh.
“Uncle, this is Meng Ziyi. We were just heading out for supper.”
“Ziyi, go on ahead. I need to talk to Lang.”
“Of course, Uncle Teng!”
With one last glance at Shen Lang, she retreated to her room.
The Talk
“Lang, are you getting kept again?” Shen Teng groaned the moment the door closed.
“Uncle! Slander!”
“Whatever. Just keep your private life private. If the paparazzi catch you, I can’t clean up the mess.”
Then, he dropped the good news: “The Pegasus role is yours. No one’s taking it.”
“Oh, and we’re doing the gala together this year.”
Shen Lang: “…”
Ironically, he’d been scheming the same thing.
Though “Starry Sea” had strong patriotic potential, getting past the gala’s selection committee required more than just merit—it needed connections.
“Uncle, I actually have a song prepared. I was thinking of performing it.”
“A song?” Shen Teng frowned.
“Yeah. Director Guo Fan’s idea.”
After hearing the full plan, Shen Teng could only shake his head.
“Fine. I’ll pull strings with the selection committee. If they reject it—no, when they accept it—you’d better not embarrass me.”
“I won’t. Trust me.”
