Chapter 23: Wrapping Up! The Luxurious Flower of the World—Sugar Mommy Da Sweet!
“How could that be?”
Li Xiaoran answered for Shen Lang. “Is there even such a thing as ‘crossing boundaries’ these days?”
“Singers act, actors sing—there are too many to count. Even idols are jumping into acting. So what’s wrong with Lang, a proper graduate of the Beijing Film Academy’s acting program, trying his hand at singing?”
“To quote Shen Teng: ‘The Shen family has artistic genes!’”
“Sister Xiaoran, you’re making me blush~” Shen Lang replied modestly.
“Lang, you need confidence!” Li Xiaoran continued. “For an artist, confidence is everything!”
“Only when you believe in yourself can you truly excel in your career.”
“Exactly! Confidence is key!”
The three actresses nodded in agreement. Only with self-assurance could one thrive in the cutthroat entertainment industry.
The more you saw of the industry’s filth, the more desensitized you became.
Of course, actual crimes were an absolute no-go.
After chatting a while longer, the director called them back to set, scolding them for crowding around the handsome guy instead of working.
Blushing, the three women insisted they were just talking to Sister Xiaoran—not flirting with Shen Lang.
Zhang Ruoyun: “…”
Ever since Shen Lang joined the crew, I’ve become invisible.
Shen Lang was his junior, and more importantly, Da Sweet’s protégé. Having navigated the industry for years, Zhang Ruoyun knew better than to provoke that kind of backing.
Fine, I’ll keep my distance.
That said, acting opposite Shen Lang was surprisingly smooth—no awkward pauses or missed cues.
These past few days, they had been filming scenes where Yan Bingyun (Shen Lang) was sent to Northern Qi, coincidentally crossing paths with Fan Xian on his return to the capital.
The sequence wrapped in just three days.
The remaining scenes for Yan Bingyun were part of Joy of Life’s first-season finale.
Thanks to Da Sweet’s influence, the production team had prioritized shooting Shen Lang’s parts early.
Fortunately, Joy of Life wasn’t filmed chronologically. Instead, they grouped each actor’s scenes together for efficiency. As the lead, Zhang Ruoyun cooperated fully.
After three weeks on set, Shen Lang completed all his scenes.
On the day of his wrap, Da Sweet made good on her promise and treated the entire crew to a feast—complete with fruit, milk tea, and drinks.
She even arranged breakfast for everyone the next morning.
“I wish I could work with Da Sweet on every project!”
The crew couldn’t stop gushing.
Some had collaborated with her before, but never experienced such generosity. Clearly, Da Sweet spared no expense when it came to her man.
The lavish treatment ensured no one would gossip after leaving the set.
What happens on set, stays on set.
The one most reluctant to see Shen Lang go was Li Xiaoran.
Over the past two weeks, she had monopolized him nightly for their roleplay games.
“Sigh…” Watching Shen Lang and Da Sweet standing together, Li Xiaoran suddenly felt old.
Still, sneaking around with him had its own thrill.
This is how it has to be. Our relationship can’t see the light.
After years in the industry, Li Xiaoran was no starry-eyed romantic. She chased only her own happiness—and pleasure.
“Lang, congrats on wrapping up!”
“Take a few days off. After Tomb-Sweeping Day, The Untamed will hold its launch event. You’ll need to join the shoot then.”
“I took time off to be here too. I’m heading back to my own set tomorrow. You should return to campus first—after all, you’re still a college student, hehehe…”
When she emphasized “college student,” Da Sweet’s smile turned意味深长.
“Sweetie, that smirk is downright villainous…”
“What? Can’t I play the villain?”
Da Sweet huffed, then said seriously, “My relationship with you is the plot of a villainess, isn’t it?”
“At least in the eyes of your fans, this princess is the antagonist!”
Shen Lang: “…”
Her media literacy was impressive.
He had to give credit where it was due—her self-awareness was on point.
After dinner, Da Sweet followed Shen Lang to his room without a care for onlookers.
“Lang, ever since that Trump Card episode aired, you’ve been gaining traction. You could totally do more variety shows. Want me to hook you up?”
Then she shook her head. “Actually, never mind. With Uncle Shen Teng—comedy’s rising star—backing you, you don’t need my help.”
Before Shen Lang could respond, she clung to him. “Oh! I heard Uncle Teng is fighting for your next role—going head-to-head with the investors!”
“For the rich-kid part in Han Han’s Pegasus, the investors wanted Huang Jinyu. But Uncle Teng insisted it had to be you.”
“Now the investors and Han Han are stuck. They agree Uncle Teng is irreplaceable as the lead, but the second role? Total standoff.”
“Still, I trust Uncle Teng will win this one for you.”
“Rumor has it he regretted not pushing for the female lead in Hello Mr. Billionaire. He doesn’t want a repeat with Pegasus.”
“Honestly? If I hadn’t snatched you up first, you’d never have agreed to my sponsorship.”
“With Uncle Teng’s connections, you’d have made it to the A-list anyway.”
“But—too bad! My vision was just too sharp! Geh geh geh—”
After rambling, Da Sweet suddenly remembered why she’d taken time off.
She stood up mysteriously. “Lang, go shower. And no rushing—take your time. I’ve got a surprise waiting.”
Pushing him into the bathroom, she shut the door behind him. “Be a good boy, okay~?”
Shen Lang sighed inwardly. Here we go.
Though he’d spent the past two weeks indulging Li Xiaoran’s roleplay games, being with Da Sweet was a whole different experience.
