Chapter 1166: Chapter 1166: Daily Life in the Wild (Seeking Monthly Passes with Third Update)
Feng Jun looked around and unexpectedly noticed Ji PingAn’s two neighbors, both middle-aged men—one at Qi Refining First Layer and the other at Mundane Transformation Eighth Layer. At their age, such cultivation levels were practically the bottom tier of existence within Qiuchen Market.
Yet, a few cultivators were gathered around them, smiling obsequiously as they spoke, clearly hoping the pair could install their telephones soon.
Installing telephones was technically Tiantong’s responsibility, but the local Tiantong group was seriously understaffed. Ji PingAn not only had collaborations with Feng Jun but also knew plenty of people skilled at setting up electrical equipment. Thus, Tiantong had hired them to help with the installations.
Ji PingAn’s rise had indeed changed the survival conditions for many people. It was no coincidence Feng Jun’s courtyard remained untouched—you wouldn’t even hear a whisper about trouble. In fact, many people were voluntarily helping maintain it.
These two men being surrounded didn’t let newfound success go to their heads. Having come from the bottom themselves, they clearly understood that overexposure would only lead to trouble—in reality, anyone who could afford a telephone wouldn’t have lower cultivation than them.
So, they could only smile bitterly and explain, "The distribution box for that location is full. Recently, the Fang Market and Tiantong have been discussing plans to reconfigure the wiring, strictly prohibiting aerial connections—everything must go underground. It’ll take a few days to sort out."
A cultivator at Qi Refining Fifth Layer nodded thoughtfully, "That makes sense. I heard the Heavenly King Inspector had urgent matters and flew a bit too fast, cutting himself on a wire. The telephone lines need tidying up. How long will it take?"
The pair spread their hands helplessly, "How long it’ll take, you’ll have to ask the Fang Market. We’re just the laborers."
Feng Jun listened to their lively chatter but quickly lost interest and turned away to find the administrator responsible for renting cultivation residences.
To his surprise, there was also a queue here, though thankfully only three cultivators were ahead of him.
When it was Feng Jun’s turn, he spoke in a deep voice, "I need a High-Rank cultivation residence for twenty days."
The receptionist, a young man at High Tier of Qi Refinement, glanced at Feng Jun and shook his head expressionlessly, "There’s no High-Rank residence available, only Intermediate Level ones... If you don’t want to rent, you can try again tomorrow."
Feng Jun wasn’t surprised. He simply responded, "Then I’ll reserve one. What’s the earliest date available for reservation?"
The young man shook his head again, "The rules have changed. Recently, many High-Level cultivators have come to Qiuchen, and the Fang Market decided not to accept reservations. You’ll have to come back tomorrow unless... you have Qiuchen’s merit points."
"I do," Feng Jun took out his identification badge and flashed it. His voice was calm and unwavering as he asked, "How do the deductions work?"
The young man’s attitude instantly changed when he saw the merit points. "Ah, you’ve contributed to Qiuchen? Merit points won’t be deducted. How about this: I can schedule you for the day after tomorrow. Does that work?"
The day after tomorrow sounded excellent. Feng Jun nodded, about to agree, when someone nearby scoffed, "Hey, Zhang, use your eyes! This gentleman is Ji PingAn’s boss and has close ties to Tiantong. Show him the reserved residences!"
Feng Jun turned to look at the speaker, a cultivator at Fourth Layer of Qi-refining unfamiliar to him. From his air alone, Feng Jun deduced the man was likely a combat cultivator.
Feng Jun chuckled and shook his head, "No need to arrange anything. The day after tomorrow is just fine."
The young man, Zhang, looked troubled. "Big Li, the earliest would still be tomorrow. There are vacant residences, but people have prepaid Spirit Stones for them—even if they’re not present, it still counts. How can I shuffle things? Renting the same residence to two parties isn’t possible... As for the reserved residences, I don’t have the authority to release them right now; you’d need to find someone in charge."
The combat cultivator’s face darkened as he nodded slightly, "Alright, Zhang. Looks like you’re making progress—Ji PingAn’s reputation doesn’t go as far as it used to."
Zhang sighed helplessly, "Fine, I’ll take you to one of the prepaid residents. Just hope they don’t hold this against us..."
"No need," Feng Jun held up a hand, his tone serious. "I happen to have some errands to manage over the next two days. I’ll prepay for ten days now and top up twenty days when I return the day after tomorrow."
As he spoke, he tossed out a Storage Talisman. "Please register it."
After finalizing the registration, Feng Jun nodded with a smile at the Combat Cultivator, Big Li. "Thank you," he said, then turned and left the administration office.
Outside, Feng Jun brought out a motorcycle and rode off in style under the gaze of onlookers.
At first, he planned to linger in Qiuchen Market to pass the time but soon realized quite a few people recognized him. Staying visible wasn’t an option—he at least needed a plausible timeframe to "deal with Yang Shangren."
That evening, he didn’t even return to his courtyard. Choosing a secluded spot, he released his portable residence and slept soundly for the night.
The next morning, Feng Jun awoke feeling an odd sense of premonition.
He immediately released his Divine Sense to investigate, then coldly snapped, "Get lost!"
Feng Jun’s Divine Sense was condensed and formidable, rivaling even Intermediate Level Awakening cultivators. If pushed, it could even fake High-Rank prowess.
Suddenly, six or seven figures darted out of hiding and fled without looking back.
Such was the downside of living in the wild. Feng Jun couldn’t show he was heavily guarded, nor could he hide his portable residence. Naturally, this would attract greedy eyes—after all, a single portable residence was worth a staggering ten thousand Spirit Stones.
With its defensive formation active, outsiders had no efficient way inside, leaving them to lurk around for any opening.
Of course, they didn’t think they could outright claim the residence; such a large acquisition wasn’t feasible for them. In their minds, observing might lead to some opportunity—after all, who knew?
In the end, speculating proved unwise. A surge of immense Divine Sense followed by a cold snort revealed the type of cultivator residing inside—at least Intermediate Level Awakening.
This area was remote from Qiuchen Market; forget fighting—killing someone here wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. An Awakening cultivator dealing with Qi Refinement levels had no restraints. The inhabitant of this small residence ignored them with only a snort, purely out of apathy for such ants.
After scaring the loiterers away, Feng Jun didn’t rush to retract his portable residence. Instead, he stayed inside, preparing breakfast.
Once he finished eating, he summoned Feng Jing to deliver Yang Shangren, escorting him back personally before reentering the residence.
Feng Jun released Yang Shangren from the Spirit Beast Bag but noticed the man remained unconscious.
Fortunately, under the residence’s abundant Spiritual Energy, his life force slowly began to recover.
By noon, his vitality finally climbed to 25.
Using Divine Sense to scan Yang Shangren’s brain, Feng Jun detected faint mental activity and murmured, "Wake up and recover your energy already."
Still, Yang Shangren showed no response. However, his brain’s mental activity grew slightly stronger.
Ten minutes later, his pupils finally twitched beneath his eyelids, signaling he was about to awaken.
Feng Jun accessed his mobile device to check Yang Shangren’s status, finding it hadn’t reached 26% yet.
This indicated that severely injured individuals could regain consciousness somewhere between 25% and 26% vitality.
Once Yang Shangren fully woke and silently began circulating energy, his vitality climbed to 26%.
Feng Jun allowed him to continue cultivating until evening when the man’s vitality reached 40%. Feng Jun cleared his throat lightly. "Yang Shangren, you’ve narrowly survived this time. The day is late—perhaps we should return to Qiuchen Market?"
Yang Shangren said nothing and continued his energy circulation routine before silently collecting his Storage Bag, Gray Bead, and Hairpin. He sighed softly, "How many more of these experiments will it take?"
Feng Jun raised his hand, retracting the portable residence. He chuckled slightly. "Two or three more, I reckon. Although I suspect..."
Mid-sentence, he suddenly unleashed a Great Seal. "Go!"
Yang Shangren coldly observed his movements, retreating just one step without any further resistance.
It was clear his spirit had reached its lowest ebb, leaving him devoid of thoughts of fighting back. The slight retreat was merely a reflex from years of combat experience.
Feng Jun’s Mountain and River Seal, however, wasn’t aimed at Yang Shangren but rather toward the space between two trees.
As the Seal slammed down forcefully, air currents stirred, revealing a concealed figure—a rotund man lying flat on the ground, his head pointed toward the residence. Clearly, he’d used secret techniques to remain hidden, with his intentions obvious.
Upon seeing the Seal descend, the man was terrified and screamed, "Mercy, I..."
Feng Jun showed no mercy, crushing the man to pieces with a sneer. "I gave you a chance... If you insist on courting death, who else can you blame?"
Earlier that morning, seven figures fled at his command. Yet this man, relying on his stealth abilities, chose to remain nearby, hiding until evening.
Had Feng Jun not been tracking Yang Shangren closely and periodically checking his mobile device for data, he wouldn’t have been bored enough to investigate the surrounding area for minerals.
That was when he discovered a nearby Soul Stone... Wait, a Soul Stone?
This anomaly prompted him to probe further, ultimately uncovering a Qi Refining Eighth Layer cultivator recklessly concealed nearby.
Such individuals left Feng Jun with no hesitation—if they sought death, it was his duty to oblige.
The Soul Stone itself gave Feng Jun pause, as he faintly sensed the hidden cultivator’s concealment technique might be tied to it.
Feng Jun owned a Soul Stone as well, acquired from Maoshan’s Ancestral Tablet. Maoshan had gifted it to him as a token of gratitude.
His Soul Stone contained no Yin Spirits, as it wouldn’t fit inside the Ancestral Tablet otherwise. Maoshan’s founding patriarch wasn’t highly cultivated but absolutely wouldn’t have left behind anything to harm the Daoism he established.
The hidden cultivator’s Soul Stone, however, wasn’t as trustworthy. Due to Feng Jun’s unique circumstances, he despised the notion of "elders residing within items," especially ghostly ancestors possibly related to deceased owners—after all, what else would offer such protection?
This "ancestral blessing" concept was one he’d heard frequently in the mobile dimension. And any Yin Spirit capable of residing within a Soul Stone would need at least Golden Core Peak cultivation.
Thus, Feng Jun poured all his strength into the Mountain and River Seal, aiming to shatter the Soul Stone completely.
