Chapter 88: Valhalla (I)
Book 2. - The Bloody Path of a World King
---
Glory City was a massive city nearly four thousand kilometers away from Silent Wind Military Base. It was one of the largest and most borderline cities in Constantine County, near the border. Like all other places, this city was attacked by demonic beasts that rose from the ground in the first days of the apocalypse.
However, unlike other cities across Constantine Country, this place was not full of corpses or broken buildings, and there were currently thousands of people in it, living their lives. Such a sight should inspire hope and thrill in the heart of a better path, yet all the humans in this place were in a state of constant fear and anxiety.
People did their best not to leave their homes, and those who did always walked with their heads down, trying not to draw attention. Something interesting about their wardrobe was a black armband that over 90% of the population wore.
A man named Josef was walking down the street, and he also had a black armband on his arm. Suddenly, he noticed a person coming his way, and as he saw the golden armband on their arm, the man immediately moved to the side and lowered his head, not daring to make eye contact.
Josef’s eyes were filled with fear and apprehension, and he only relaxed once the person with the golden armband walked away. He glanced again at that person, and a feeling of impotence assaulted his heart.
That golden armband was the mark of a Gifted, someone born with unique power, while his black armband was that of someone without a Gift.
Those armbands were essentially a caste system, and those with golden armbands could command and rule over people with black armbands. Such a system would usually incite revolts, especially since those with black armbands were much more numerous, but the world was different now, and one person could kill a hundred.
People with golden armbands took Josef’s friend two weeks ago, and he never saw her again. He was not alone in his sorrow since many had suffered under the system.
Josef’s eyes turned to the city’s largest and most beautiful building, the Star Reaper. It was in that massive 300-meter-tall building that the people who implemented this system lived.
The first time they appeared and saved them from the demons, the man thought they were saviors, but soon, they showed their true colors, and he now knew they were even worse than the demons.
Unfortunately, no matter how much he hated the Gifted who abused his friends and family or those who put in place this horrible system, he and all the others were too weak to do anything about it.
"Ahhh," the man could only sigh as he once again lowered his head, a feeling of hopelessness assaulting his heart.
"BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!"
Just as Josef started walking again, a massive explosion took place outside the city, and he saw with awe and shock how a gargantuan rainbow pillar of energy fell from the sky. He could not understand what was happening, and his shock grew stronger as the next second, he saw people emerge from the energy pillar.
They were men and women, and they looked very similar to humans. Yet they were larger and taller, all with well-trained and muscular bodies with tremendous strength and toughness covered in tribal tattoos. Most of them wore rugged leather armor and fur-lined clothing, emphasizing their battle-hardened appearance.
Every one of these people released a bloody and brutal aura that made Josef feel like he was drowning in a pool of blood. Yet, even these bloody warriors adopted a solemn and respectful stance as a young woman in tribal garments walked forward.
The woman was not only incredibly gorgeous but also exuded the aura of a master and leader whose words carried immense weight. Her face was adorned with black tribal markings: a vertical line running from her forehead down to the bridge of her nose, extending below her eyes with intricate patterns flanking the central line.
She had long, dark hair styled loosely around her gorgeous face, with a few braids decorated with thin, orange-red accents. Her eyes were sharp and piercing, emphasizing her determination and resolve that did not match her young age.
Josef could not take his eyes off the woman, who was by far the most beautiful and mesmerizing person he had ever seen. Yet, when she turned her eyes toward him, he felt terror and immediately lowered his head.
The young woman showed no reaction to the man’s fear, but her eyes focused on the black armband, and a feeling of coldness and disdain appeared on her face. She then took a deep breath before suddenly turning to the massive building at the city’s center.
"Those winged rats have occupied this city." Her voice was full of coldness, and a sense of pure savagery appeared in her eyes as she carried on. "Kill all of them and also butcher any of their pets that dare to stand in our way."
As they heard those words, the men and women smiled. They took out their weapons, and white Force covered their bodies. The next second, their tattoos began to glow, pushing their bodies’ strength even higher.
"Hahaha, fighting right from the start. That is how I like it!"
"I have not tasted the blood of those winged rats in a long time!"
"Let’s see if they can endure more than an hour."
The warriors shouted with pure killing intent and ferocity as they marched into the city at a shocking speed, all eager to fight as they headed into the massive building.
The young woman did not follow her soldiers through the streets. Her eyes focused on the building in the distance before her tattoos began to glow. The next second, she jumped over twenty meters, landing on the ceiling of a house, leaving cracks on it before jumping again.
