Chapter 84: The last fight (II)
The explosion sent Arasbus flying away, burning wounds all over his body and blood leaking from his mouth due to the internal damage. The Abyssal was one of the lucky ones, as his strength and energy managed to save his life while the rest of the demons in the blast’s epicenter were blown to pieces.
Flames were everywhere, and the Abyssal could see bloody corpses and mangled demonic beasts scattered all around. Several Champion demons had also perished, while the rest were severely wounded.
It was a truly bloody and disturbing scene, but Arasbus was able to get over it quickly, as something like this was very common in his home. The demon’s first thought was to establish order.
’I need to act fast before those bloody humans have time to regain their energy,’ a cold light appeared in the Abyssal’s eyes. Even after the bloody mess and the death of nearly two thousand demonic beasts and several Champions, he was not ready to give up.
While the high demonic horde had suffered catastrophic losses, they had already reached the military base, and there was no more room for those traps and games. Now, everything would come down to a melee battle, and as long as the living demons gathered and marched forward, they would kill the humans.
Or at least that was Arasbus’s thought. Yet before he could even give the first order and direct his demons, his instincts began to scream like crazy. The Abyssal was shocked to feel his instincts react like that, and then he saw the origin.
A young man with a sword covered in electrified energy marched through the flames, a torrent of Origin Force charging into his body. His black eyes focused on the Abyssal Demon with a single intent.
Kill.
"AHHHH!" Vlad roared with rage and killing intent as the lightning propelled his body forward, granting his sword a shocking momentum as he hacked toward the Abyssal demon with everything he had.
Arasbus raised his massive spiked club right as the lightning sword came crashing, and his eyes widened with pure shock as he felt a force that made his arms tremble and pushed him back several meters!
’How is this possible!?’ The Abyssal could not believe what was happening. He had fought the man less than a month ago, and the human could only dodge his attacks back then. Yet now, the young man unleashed a sword strike that sent him flying away.
Even if this was a New Plane and the native inhabitants could use Origin Force to enhance themselves, the speed at which the young man rose was simply too fast.
"Attack from the flank!" "Team 1, to the wounded Champions!" "Mages, concentrate your spells in the back!"
The young man alone was enough to shake Arasbus’s heart, but the next second, he heard the shouts of humans and saw how those tiny people were charging toward the battlefield. They were not using any more tricks, instead triggering a melee battle, taking advantage of the disarray and wounded state of the demonic horde.
General Anglius and the members of the inner circle were each leading a team of soldiers, their targets the wounded Champion demons, while the rest of the soldiers were using all sorts of advanced military tactics to kill every single demonic beast in their path.
Arasbus knew that time was of the essence, and he needed to act fast, but he did not even have the luxury to think about how to help his troops as the human flashed back into the fray, attacking once again with that lightning sword.
"Fine! I would like to see how your people fight after I crack your skull open for all to see!" The Abyssal demon shouted in rage as he focused on the enemy before him. The young man with black eyes was the heart of the human force, and if he killed this one, it would shake the will of everybody, allowing him to turn the tables.
Fiery wisps covered the black spiked club as it clashed with the lightning sword, generating waves of destructive energy around the duo, making the ground beneath their feet crack. There was pure killing intent in the eyes of the Abyssal demon and the human as they stared at each other. At the same time, their weapons collided, each trying to push the other away, but neither could overcome their enemy.
In the end, Arasbus and Vlad were pushed back a few meters, but not even a second later, they flashed forward, once again exchanging blows, the fire-spiked club and lightning sword clashing repeatedly.
The flames of war flooded the battlefield as explosions and death surrounded the duo, both the core of each side, the hero of their kind, and the nightmare of their enemy.
Despite all the wounds and damage he had taken, Arasbus’s skill with the club was superb, each strike carrying immense power and speed. Yet an annoyed expression appeared on his face.
’I have greater strength and am handling a heavy weapon, so how are his attacks as strong as mine?’ Arasbus’s eyes were confused, but his battle instinct kicked in the next second as he focused on the cloak of electrified energy around the young man.
At first, the Abyssal thought it was the same energy the young man used to propel his body at shocking speed, but now that he focused on it, he understood it was something else.
’It is a protective barrier covering his body and diminishing the strength of my attacks as they get near him.’ Arasbus’s eyes narrowed as he finally understood what was happening. As he continued focusing on the barrier, he came to a conclusion. ’It is not a bloodline ability or a Force skill, but a spell.’
At that point, the eyes of the Abyssal widened, and a flash of terror coursed through them. ’Wait! Where is the cat!?’
Just as that thought appeared in Arasbus’s mind, a small head emerged behind Vlad’s shoulder!
