Chapter 689: A carnage
It was an extraordinary creature, an apex embodiment of dual divinity and abyssal wrath. His colossal body exuded primordial power, his obsidian scales rippling with fiery veins of infernal energy. Across his dark hide, brilliant arcane sigils etched themselves like solar runes, throbbing and radiating otherworldly might.
From his back erupted two monumental wings, each representing a force at stark contrast with the other. On one side blazed a radiant wing of pure white light, aflame with sacred luminescence like the feathers of an angelic phoenix. On the other side seethed a span of chaotic black fire, etched with jagged runes glowing like the pulsing hearts of countless demonic spells.
The behemoth’s maw glowed molten red, drips of liquid fire seeping from between his blade-like teeth. When he roared, he did so with such intensity that it felt as though the very air might split open.
His mismatched eyes—one shining a deep, icy blue, the other burning scarlet—smoldered with an apocalyptic intelligence.
Angelo, the towering Viking, voiced what many thought but scarcely believed. "Is that a—" he had to pause, swallowing his amazement, "—a motherfucking Tyrannosaurus Rex with angelic and demonic wings?"
Though the Viking had visited countless planes in his travels, rarely had he encountered the ancient race known as dinosaurs. Seeing one here, and in such a form, left him utterly stunned.
He was a T-Rex, an ancient predator some believed lost to the annals of prehistory, yet this iteration seemed to channel both Abyss and Heaven with terrifying ease.
Towering nearly two hundred meters high and extending to over four hundred meters in length, he dwarfed everything else on the battlefield. His monstrous dual wings cast an imposing half-light, half-shadow aura across the war-torn ground.
Pure, bestial brutality glowed in his eyes as he surveyed the Vorometallicae ranks. Then, with a single earth-shaking lunge, the T-Rex crashed deep into enemy lines, leveling entire formations and igniting an explosion of light and fire that rippled outward in shockwaves.
Whole clusters of Vorometallicae were obliterated, dozens of their Guardians vaporized in an instant and thousands more High Champions were consumed by the bursting flames. The ferocious might displayed was so sudden and devastating that even hardened soldiers on both sides faltered momentarily, struggling to process what had just happened.
Not even a second later, the T-Rex’s enormous head swiveled, his glowing eyes locking onto a nearby Voroe Sage.
The Sage, standing over thirty meters tall, boasted a body that seemed forged of dark golden ore—tougher than a high-level Sage-tier armor. Yet this advantage became irrelevant in the face of the T-Rex’s overwhelming ferocity.
With a thunderous snap of his jaws, the beast clamped down, swallowing the Sage almost whole. Sickening cracks of metal and bone echoed from within his maw, reducing one of the Vorometallicae’s elites to shredded remains.
Yet colossal size and power came with a glaring vulnerability. In the swirling chaos of the battlefield, multiple Vorometallicae Sages seized the chance to direct a barrage of cataclysmic spells at this monstrous foe. Fireballs, beams of compressed water, and arcs of black lightning converged, detonating with a fury that engulfed the T-Rex in a seething inferno.
For a heartbeat, soldiers on both sides stared, spellbound, as gargantuan flames and explosive energies flooded the creature’s outline.
A hush fell upon the Graecia ranks; many grew certain the T-Rex would be annihilated. If he perished, it would be a painful loss for their already precarious advantage.
Across the Vorometallicae lines, the flicker of triumphant smiles appeared. They believed no single creature, however monstrous, could withstand such a destructive salvo.
But just as dismay threatened to settle in the hearts of the humans, the T-Rex unfurled his dual wings with a defiant roar, scattering flames and residual spell energies in all directions.
He re-emerged from the torrent of blasts, his obsidian hide marred by bruises and lacerations yet very much intact. The watchers gaped in awe when, right before their eyes, the T-Rex’s wounds knit themselves closed, flesh and scales regenerating at an astonishing rate.
It dawned on them that this creature possessed the constitution of a Legendary being, albeit one that, from the outside, lacked the delicate command of cosmic forces typically associated with advanced cultivation.
Still, the T-Rex boasted a body so powerful—coupled with regenerative abilities beyond normal Legendary tolerance—that it compensated for his less refined energy manipulation with raw, unbridled ferocity.
Unconcerned by the terror or admiration he elicited, the T-Rex threw his jaws wide, revealing a chaotic churn of burning light and abyssal darkness conjoined. Moments later, it exhaled a devastating breath attack. Swathes of Vorometallicae soldiers disappeared in an expanding vortex of scorching radiance and corrupted flame.
In a panic, the Voroe Half-Step Legends recognized that allowing such a beast to rampage freely would be catastrophic. They dashed forward, planning to strike swiftly and surgically, aiming for the T-Rex’s vital points to stop it from further decimating their ranks.
Although normal Sages struggled to hurt the beast—its wounds healing nearly as soon as they formed—those wielding the advanced Laws of a Half-Step Legend could potentially cause lasting harm.
But just as these Half-Step Legends prepared to unleash a lethal volley upon the T-Rex, Jormungandr intervened.
Standing atop a vantage point, the small yellow cat hissed and summoned writhing serpents woven from lightning and pure infernal fire. These serpents blasted toward the Voroe, suicidal in their assault, tangling around the arms of Half-Step Legends, constricting them, draining them, or exploding in their faces.
It was enough to divert their attention from the T-Rex—a decisive moment that allowed the beast to pivot and exterminate even more of the Voroes.
For a brief second, the battlefield seemed to freeze as the combined presence of the Depravitas—Vlad, Ouroboros, Fafnir, Jormungandr, and now this gargantuan T-Rex—drove home the realization of just how thoroughly the tide was turning.
Only minutes ago, the Graecia forces had been outmatched, fighting tooth and nail. Now, the unbridled power displayed by these awakened beings threatened to overpower even the best the Vorometallicae had to offer.
"ARGHHHHH!"
A raw bellow of wrath tore through the battlefield, snapping the human soldiers out of their wide-eyed daze. They spotted Vlad, chest still heaving and eyes bloodshot with fierce adrenaline.
He channeled his Burning Eyes of Fury, unleashing a concentrated beam that obliterated everything in its path, Voroe and debris alike, sending the remains spiraling into the air in a shower of sparks and ash.
"Let’s butcher them all!" Vlad cried, voice trembling with the savage resonance.
