Chapter 460: Overwhelming battlefield
The human forces marched toward the swarm, their eyes full of resolution and might as the sky above was set ablaze by the clash of titanic beings. Overhead, the sky wolf and Manticore Leviathan Lord exchanged devastating blows that shook the heavens, while in the distance, two massive serpentine creatures collided with such force that distant mountains quivered beneath the shockwaves. Yet, despite the epic struggles raging around them, the human soldiers did not waver. They would hold their ground against the Leviathan swarm, carve a path through their monstrous foes, and press forward into enemy territory. T
The Leviathans, for their part, did not lack resolve. Feeling immensely threatened by the human advance, the hive mind was determined to annihilate them at all costs. The humans were already approaching the one place the hive mind could not afford to lose. Even if it meant sacrificing every last drone and warrior, it would be worth it. The hive mind could always use the biomass of the fallen to craft more units. This was a battle with no retreat, no mercy, and no compromise.
Freya stood at the head of the vanguard, riding atop a Xaos Tank. As they came within fifty meters of the swarm, Freya’s energy exploded outward. She leaped from the tank, her shield glowing like a miniature sun as she channeled her Totemic Energy, Force, and bloodline power. At that moment, she was transformed into a living comet of radiance and fury. When she crashed into the Leviathan swarm, the impact was overwhelming. Hundreds of Levithans were obliterated instantly, reduced to broken bodies and sprays of gore that painted the battlefield black.
The force of Freya’s charge was so immense that her arm trembled beneath the constant collisions. Her muscles and bones felt as though they would snap at any moment under the strain. Yet, the Viking princess clenched her teeth and pressed forward, refusing to yield even a fraction of her momentum. Her shield smashed through chitin and flesh.
Seeing Freya’s audacious advance, the Levithans surged from all sides, attempting to encircle and overwhelm her. They sought to strike from behind, to bring her down before she could fully exploit the breach she had created. But by that time, the Xaos Tanks had joined the fray. These metal titans rolled into the thick of battle, their colossal frames crushing drones and aerial units like insects beneath a boot. Beams of energy and explosions erupted from their cannons, clearing swathes of enemies in every direction.
Simultaneously, the Lords of Horror and the Vikings mounted on the Xaos Tanks leaped into action. They attacked with all their might, preventing the Levithans from surrounding Freya and slowing down the tanks. Armed with formidable weapons and clad in sturdy armor, these warriors turned each skirmish into a massacre of chitin and ichor. Sword and hammer, lance and spear, all found their marks. Under their coordinated efforts, an enormous opening formed in the Leviathan swarm, one that the rest of the human forces would soon exploit.
"Golden Wave Legion, NOW!" came the thunderous shout of Grand Marshal Anglius. His giant halberd burst into flames as he swung it with all his might, generating a searing arc of fire that extended for hundreds of meters. Thousands of drones were incinerated in that single swing. The Golden Wave Legion charged forward by his side, their armor gleaming, their weapons raised, and their eyes focused on the path cleared by Freya and the Xaos Tanks.
From the very beginning, the Golden Wave Legion unleashed their full power. Their Force and demonic energy burst forth, fueling each strike with lethal intensity. Anglius himself punched a Leviathan warrior into pieces before stomping the ground to summon waves of flame that consumed drones trying to swarm him.
Without losing momentum, he buried his halberd in the earth, releasing another blast of fire that repelled nearby enemies. The golden giant served not only as a frontline fighter but as a guide, ensuring that no Leviathans could strike the Xaos Battalion from behind. Witnessing their leader’s ferocity only inflamed the legion’s own fighting spirit. They attacked with vigor, their swords and spears cutting down Levithans while spells rained upon the sidelines, ensuring no foe escaped their wrath.
Behind the Golden Wave Legion came King Viserin and tens of thousands of Turkin Riders. Each rode upon massive Champion Demon Souls. Viserin’s gaze was as sharp as a blade, and his body crackled with feral power. He had been entrusted with a mission just as crucial as that of the Golden Wave Legion, and he intended to prove his worth. Bloodshed erupted around him and his elite Turkin Soldiers. Yet he maintained focus, restraining the urge to plunge directly into combat. He had orders to fulfill, and every second tested his patience until the moment was right.
Finally, the humans reached the heart of the swarm. This was the place where Leviathans converged in terrible density, where one might drown in the sea of chitin and mandibles. At that critical moment, Viserin raised his sword and shouted with all his strength: "Turkin Riders, Spiderweb Formation!" His words echoed like thunder, cutting through the roar of battle.
At his command, tens of thousands of Turkin Riders split apart in intricate patterns. From above, their movements appeared as hundreds of lines weaving through the dark swarm. They interlocked, merged, and then separated at precisely timed intervals.
Each time it seemed they might collide, they changed course at the last second. They divided the swarm into smaller and smaller sections, shattering its cohesion. The Spiderweb Formation was something beyond normal human skill—an extraordinary display of coordination and discipline. It had taken countless hours of training and unimaginable dedication to master. Now, the payoff was clear. The Leviathans found themselves trapped, unable to respond efficiently as the humans sliced through them.
With the swarm’s cohesion crippled, hundreds of thousands of soldiers in black armor and additional Turkin Riders poured into the chaotic mess. Their blades, spears, and spells flared with lethal energy. They butchered the Levithans, turning once formidable creatures into heaps of blood and broken shells. Tens of thousands of Leviathans perished every second under the relentless assault. The battlefield became an arena of unceasing carnage.
Yet, for all the success of their tactics, the humans knew this would not be easy. The swarm numbered in the tens of millions. Even though most of them were drones, they were still lethal. Their claws, mandibles, and blades of chitin could tear a human soldier apart if given the chance. The Leviathans fought with suicidal intensity, their eyes filled with hatred. Cries of agony echoed across the battlefield as some soldiers were overwhelmed, their bodies ripped apart by ferocious creatures unwilling to die alone.
Seeing their brothers-in-arms consumed by monstrous jaws or shredded beneath vicious claws was extremely painful. Sorrow tried to settle in their minds, but they refused to despair. Instead, they channeled their rage at the loss of their comrades into renewed fury. The more their enemies snarled and bit, the more they struck back.
Freya remained at the forefront, blazing a path through the swarm. She pushed deeper and deeper into enemy lines, refusing to yield her advantage. Once they reached the center of the swarm, she swept her shield to the side, generating a brilliant blast of light that sent thousands of drones hurtling away. In the next moment, the Viking princess raised her mace high and struck the ground with all her strength. A shockwave rippled outward, crushing tens of thousands of enemies caught within its destructive radius.
Not even a second later, Freya and the Lords of Horror leaped into the air. They soared above the melee, diving toward the largest concentration of Leviathan warriors. The Viking princess and the white juggernauts crashed into a cluster of more than three hundred insect-humanoid hybrids. Her mace struck with unstoppable might, and the Lords of Horror’s swords scythed through chitin and flesh. Limbs and shells scattered in all directions. Ichor splattered across the ground as they carved through the foe like a hot blade through butter.
While Freya’s shock troops wrought havoc in one section of the battlefield, the Xaos Tanks continued their inexorable advance, grinding drones and warriors under their colossal treads. Their cannons fired ceaselessly, each blast tearing open new wounds in the Leviathan ranks.
The Golden Wave Legion pressed on, led by Anglius’s colossal figure, pushing even deeper and ensuring that no enemy could recover from the onslaught. From behind, Viserin’s Turkin Riders maintained the Spiderweb Formation, continuing to fragment the enemy swarm into isolated pockets. In these pockets, human soldiers fell upon their prey with merciless precision.
Above all this carnage, the Sky Seed Depravitas contested the Leviathan Lords in battles of truly epic scale. Ouroboros tore at the Manticore Leviathan Lord. Both titans shed blood, roaring in pain and fury, their strikes generating thunderous booms that echoed across the land.
In the distance, Jormungandr grappled with the Kraken Leviathan Lord. Fire and lightning burst from the serpent’s jaws, engulfing the monstrous foe’s colossal form. Tentacles lashed out, horns gored flesh, and raw elemental energy flared in explosive arcs. The ground trembled beneath their clash, and deep fissures split open in the earth, creating deadly traps for any who ventured too close.
