Chapter 336: Guardian Tier Spell: Lightning Fire Divine Storm!
Beyond the wreckage, Jormungandr could see movement—hundreds of thousands of drones that had been spared by distance, and behind them, the ominous figures of the hive’s humanoid-insect hybrid warriors.
The hive paused briefly as if processing the destruction before them, but their resolve didn’t falter. For these creatures, the death of their kind meant nothing. It was like a human soldier would not really care for small wounds since it was inconsequential for the rest of the body.
Without wasting a second, and before the hive could adapt to the sudden loss of its drones, Jormungandr opened his mouth, generating a powerful consuming force that drew the lightning and fire scattered across the shattered mountain range into his maw. It was a shocking sight—a river of lightning and an ocean of fire being collected into the small yellow cat. Elemental energies swirled around him, forming a vortex that devoured the remnants of the explosion.
It took him just five seconds to consume it all. Jormungandr felt as if he might explode at any moment, his body pulsing with overwhelming power, every fiber stretched to its limit. But he endured, his eyes blazing with determination. Then, with a burst of speed, he dashed forward, positioning himself high in the sky above the rear of the hive.
With a fierce roar, he unleashed all the accumulated energy in a massive beam. The torrent of power surged downward like a pillar of divine wrath, its blinding light illuminating the dark skies. The beam struck the back of the hive with devastating force, obliterating countless drones in its path. The ground shook violently as the energy exploded upon impact, sending shockwaves rippling across the battlefield.
In the wake of the beam, a colossal wall of fire and lightning erupted, rising hundreds of meters into the air. The blazing barrier crackled with electrical arcs, forming an impassable inferno that severed the hive’s retreat. Flames danced wildly, and the searing heat distorted the air, making the very atmosphere tremble.
A cold smile crossed Jormungandr’s face as he watched the chaos below. The hive’s path was cut off, severely limiting their moves and also preventing any reinforcement from arriving. But his triumph was short-lived. His instincts screamed a warning as hundreds of thousands of eyes locked onto him, their collective gaze filled with murderous intent.
A deafening screech echoed from the hive as thousands of aerial drones unfurled their wings. In perfect synchronization, they rose into the sky like a dark cloud, their wings beating furiously. The small yellow cat could feel the immense danger closing in—if the swarm surrounded him, he would be doomed.
But Jormungandr could not escape, as he wasn’t finished yet.
Without hesitation, he ascended higher, trying to put as much distance as possible between himself and the aerial drones. High above, the small yellow cat tapped into the depths of his Soul Dimensions, drawing on the massive reserves of Origin Force stored within. Jormungandr burned nearly half of the golden energy, and with the help of the A.I. Chip, he triggered a spell that would have been beyond his abilities at any other time.
"Lightning Fire Divine Storm!" His voice echoed across the heavens.
A tremendous surge of energy radiated from his body, channeling into the dark clouds left in the sky from the earlier destruction. The clouds began to swirl and expand, infused with lightning and fire. Thunder boomed like the roar of an ancient beast, and the sky came alive with furious power.
Massive arcs of lightning intertwined with raging flames, creating a tempest of elemental fury. The storm churned violently, and without warning, lightning bolts and fire rained down upon the hive below. Each strike exploded on impact, sending drones flying and igniting the ground in bursts of incandescent light.
A profound sense of exhaustion filled Jormungandr’s eyes as he witnessed the might of the storm. The sky above the hive was a chaotic storm of destruction, but he couldn’t linger. The aerial drones were undeterred by the apocalyptic storm; their sole focus was him.
They continued to ascend, drawing closer with every passing second. Realizing the imminent threat, Jormungandr turned and sped toward the other edge of the shattered mountain range. The aerial drones pursued relentlessly, a vast swarm blotting out the sky behind him.
As he crossed the jagged peaks, a coordinated barrage awaited the pursuing drones. Hidden among the mountains, hundreds of projectiles soared into the sky—elementally charged arrows, fireballs blazing with intense heat, ice spears shimmering with frost, and more. The projectiles met the aerial drones head-on, tearing through their ranks.
In a single volley, nearly twenty percent of the aerial drones were destroyed, their lifeless forms plummeting to the ground. It was clear there were people waiting for the aerial drones on the other side of the mountain. The rest of the swarm faltered and abruptly changed course. It was clear that pressing forward would only spell their doom.
Back at the base of the shattered mountain, the hive forces paused, processing the unfolding chaos. The wall of fire and lightning barred any retreat, and the storm above continued to rain destruction, claiming hundreds of drones with each passing second.
Time was against them. In less than three seconds, a decision rippled through the hive. All their myriad eyes turned toward the other side of the broken mountain range, where Jormungandr and the defenders awaited. A unified, piercing scream erupted from the hive as they surged forward, brimming with unbridled killing intent.
Jormungandr, now back within the defensive lines, landed lightly on a rocky outcrop. His breaths were ragged, sweat dampening his fur. He glanced at Freya and the other commanders, who stood ready.
"They’re coming," he said, his voice strained but resolute.
Grand Marshal Anglius barked orders to the troops. "Prepare for engagement! Hold your positions!"
The soldiers steeled themselves, forming ranks and readying their weapons. The air was thick with tension as the sound of the approaching hive grew louder—a cacophony of clicks, scrapes, and unearthly shrieks. The confrontation was upon them.
