Chapter 131: Royal Guard (II)
The man immediately began to look around the soldiers at the base of the mountain, his eyes frantically moving around them, trying to figure out the reason for the dread that assaulted his heart, yet he found wait.
’If there is not in front, then,’ the man’s eyes widened in terror as he turned around, and pure shock emerged in them as he saw a figure bathed in shadows flashing toward them from the back. "Look out!"
The Mages in dark robes were surprised by the scream of their leader. Immediately, the soldier turned around and could not believe what they were seeing. They had been on guard all this time, but their focus had been on the spellcasters of the opposing group. None of them thought someone could hide from their senses and sneak up on them.
Unfortunately for the spellcasters in dark robes, even with their leader’s warning, the attacker was too fast for them to react in time. The woman’s target was the leader, but she first dispatched the four Mages in her path.
Those people had just charged their Magic when a short sword and dagger moved, two of them having their throats severed, the sword then piercing through the eye socket of the third, and the dagger impaling the temple of the fourth.
The leader was shocked to see such formidable and terrifying assassination skills. She was like a shadow, covered in darkness, not giving a single sound even after killing those four, and now her target was him.
Although the man was shocked, and terror invaded his heart, he managed to keep control, raising his right hand and firing a torrent of flames toward the shadow. Luckily, he was ready to fire the spell against the soldiers, so he unleashed the attack fast enough.
The shadow saw the torrent of flames coming at her. It was very powerful and could burn her entire body, but she easily dodged to the side, evading the brunt of the fire before slashing with her short sword. She did not manage to land a lethal blow, but the sword moved like a snake, leaving a long and deep cut on the man’s arm that went all the way to the bone!
"Kill her!" Amid the pain, the leader shouted in rage, awakening the Warriors and Mages from their stupor, all of them focusing on the shadowy figure.
The enemy leader was in the midst of the group, so to reach him, she had been forced to venture right between the Warrior in black armor and the Mages in dark robes. Right now, all eyes focused on her, each set radiating killing intent. However, the woman did not lose focus or succumb to fear, focusing her energy on the runes covering her body.
The Warriors in black armor immediately covered the leader, hacking toward the woman with their swords. At the same time, the remaining Mages began to put some distance between them and channel their energy.
Several swords covered in Force slashed toward the young woman, and she took a single breath before springing into action, moving with demonic dexterity and speed, dodging all the attacks and showing terrific reflexes as she pulled back.
All the Warriors were very well trained, and their speed and strength were formidable, but the woman was able to avoid everything. In seconds, she put distance between herself and the enemy’s group before any of the Mages could fire their spells.
The Warriors in black armor did not dare to chase after the woman as her speed was terrifying, and the Mages did not dare to fire their spells without the guidance of their leader, fearing they might make a mistake and drain their energy pool. A Mortal Mage without magic was not very different from a regular person, and in a battlefield like this, it was the same as death.
Mitchel’s eyes widened as he saw the display of strength and assassination skills, immediately focusing on the woman whose fearsome aura froze the entire enemy battalion. He recognized her as Amara. She had been one of the soldiers under his command, but right now, her status and position were completely different.
’Royal Guard.’ Those two words echoed inside the mind of the brigadier general, a title granted to the people trained directly by the Xaos King, each capable of killing dozens of Mortal Tier soldiers.
Although the young man was shocked by Amara’s power, his tactical mind came into effect in a second, allowing him to regain his focus. Immediately, he turned to the rest of the soldiers behind him.
All those soldiers had been just as amazed as Mitchel by Amara’s display of power, but as soon as they felt the man’s sharp gaze, they regained their focus. All the Warriors adopted battle stances while the Mages prepared their spells.
While the fight would not be easy, each showed a fierce smile as they were sure that having a Royal Guard by their side meant they would win. After all, that was a warrior who could fight next to their king!
Amara had been paying attention to the entire battlefield. A sharp light appeared in her eyes as she saw how Mitchel had coordinated the soldiers, allowing her to focus solely on the enemy ahead. She paid special attention to the Mages who had already charged their spells.
The Royal Guard had put one hundred meters between them and her. With her agility, she could dodge anything they sent, but she could not afford to lose focus for even a second. After ensuring that all the variables were taken into consideration, she stared at the leader, who was grabbing his bloody arm.
"I intend to cut your head for daring to offend my King. I admit your reflexes are top-notch for a Mage. I am the Royal Guard of the Xaos King, Amara. From which organization do you come?" The woman’s voice was peaceful yet powerful, with her might pressing the enemy group.
