Chapter 93: Consequences (1)

"You," Selene said, closing her eyes as she tried to calm herself. She had to be careful with what she said next.

Selene opened her eyes once she felt calm again. "I will not leave home without the stone ever again. You speak of kissing and now this. If it is that you want me to sleep with you then you only need to ask. You are my husband after all."

Xavier looked away from Selene now that his mood was ruined. "Who said I wanted you to do that duty, Selene? We were going so well and you just had to ruin the fun."

"What?" Selene frowned, confused as to what she did wrong. "Please tell me what I said wrong. You are my husband."

It was normal to expect he would at some point want her in that way.

"I would hate to think of you forcing yourself to sleep with someone just because they are your husband and they ask. Let’s get one thing clear here, Selene. I might joke but I will never ask you to be intimate with me if it is not something you want to do," said Xavier.

Xavier continued, "I am patiently waiting for you to figure out if you feel anything towards me. I am not asking that you rush any part of it. I will never force you to do something you don’t like so please, don’t force yourself to please me. Deal?"

Selene slowly nodded her head. "Deal."

"With that being understood, I hope you will think of me for your hobby. It might be good for you to keep Francesca around," said Xavier.

"Really? Isn’t it because you think she will get me to use you to pass the time?" Selene asked, seeing right through him. How could he go from being so serious to playful again so fast?

"I cannot deny it would benefit me but aside from that, it looked like you two were getting along. I know her husband well. He’s a quiet man who tries to stay out of the way. She might be a good start for new friends. Or was there something I didn’t notice?" Xavier asked, curious about how she felt about the women.

"She was nice to me but I still need to be a little bit more careful. If it goes well, I will invite her to the estate if you do not mind. I do not want to surprise you with guests," said Selene.

Xavier smiled since Selene had missed one important detail: "You are the lady of the estate, Selene. You can invite anyone you want."

"Anyone?"

"I’m sure you would be smart not to invite people we both dislike. I will think you are ill or asking that I kill them if you do," Xavier said followed by Selene laughing.

"I would never do that to you as I would never want you to do that to me. So, will you be home for the rest of the day? I have nothing to do now," Selene said, trying to think of what to do in her free time.

Selene looked down at her lap as Francesca’s suggestion came to mind. She dreaded it staying in her mind too long as every time she looked at Xavier or thought about Francesca, it would come up.

"There is something I must take care of now before I stay home with you. I know who has been spreading the rumours about us having an affair. It is the same man Oliver and it appears his wife has been meeting with women around the town to speak of what you told her," Xavier shared.

"No," Selene laughed, knowing he had it wrong. This was something she could expect from Oliver with the way he acted now but not from Fiona. "No, she wouldn’t," she started but couldn’t finish.

Xavier knew of her friendship with Fiona so he wouldn’t make a joke. There had to be evidence of Fiona going around speaking about this.

"I didn’t tell her anything. We hardly had any time to speak since Oliver showed up that day. Now I see that it was good for me that he showed up," Selene said as anything else she said could have been twisted. "Why would she?"

"It doesn’t matter why at this point. She turned her back on you and I intend to deal with it today. I was going to visit there now but I will leave it for tonight. I will not harm her but the same cannot be said for her husband," Xavier said so Selene knew what was coming.

Oliver and Fiona played a dangerous game by getting too comfortable speaking about Selene.

Selene wasn’t able to hear much of what Xavier was saying because she was so focused on her thoughts. She knew Fiona never wanted to lose Oliver but this was going too far.

Selen continued to laugh instead of cry which she felt like doing but the tears wouldn’t come out. It was as if her body didn’t want to waste tears on those two or she was truly out of tears at this point. "Why am I surprised? I don’t know why."

"Because she was a friend. That is why you are so hurt. She was probably the last person you thought would do this to you but the people in this town are like this. Most will do anything to get ahead. It will hurt now but you will feel better going forward," said Xavier.

Selene wanted time to skip to when she would be better. Here she had been worried about Fiona being left with Oliver while Fiona was running around fueling this idea that she had an affair.

They had already spoken about how she felt about Gabriel having an affair yet Fiona did this. No wonder many would think the rumours were true when it was coming from someone Selene always said she could trust.

Selene rested her head on the side of the carriage. "Are you going to kill him?"

"Yes. It is better to deal with these people now before they continue to do things which will affect you. You already have a lot of people to worry about. It’s time to get rid of one of them," Xavier said, hoping she would not be still kind to the pair.

He continued, "I thought of keeping it from you to not hurt you like this but I will keep our honesty. I hope it comforts you in some way knowing that you will not be the one who has to hurt them for what they have done. Use me for that."

Selene was grateful for Xavier’s help now. Fiona and Oliver could not get away with what they had done. She knew that Xavier getting rid of Oliver meant that Fiona would suffer because Fiona did not know what to do with herself without Oliver around.

"Thank you once again," Selene thanked Xavier. If not for him, Selene didn’t know how she would handle this matter.

Selene had faced another betrayal from someone who knew she barely survived the last betrayals.

Xavier got up to place himself beside Selene who welcomed it by making room for him. He held her hand since it might be what she needed now. ’You will find other friends. Better friends who will not turn their backs on you the first chance they get. See this being good to get them out of your life."

Xavier wasn’t fond of the pair due to what happened when Selene visited Fiona so he enjoyed getting rid of them.

Selene didn’t respond to Xavier but instead of continuing to lean on the carriage, she moved to rest her head on Xavier’s shoulder. He seemed to know her well enough to not speak anymore, allowing her to think about what to do next.
