Chapter 162: Test (4)

"Wait. Wait a moment," Selene held up her hand to stop him. "You must be better at delivering news like this," Selene said since there was much to think about.

First, Fiona was dead then there was this assumption of her healing from holy weapons again and now, her parents could be alive. There was only so much she could take at once.

"I know I should have eased you into this but if I am right, then you might have a parent who has been awake all this time still under the ground," Xavier said.

They needed to act fast. Despite having the ability to heal, they would lack blood which they needed to stay alive. It was a sensitive matter but Xavier didn’t have time to slowly ease her into this.

For Selene, he wanted to get her parents out of those graves now before they were too late.

Selene didn’t know what to say. If she didn’t know Xavier not to be someone to lie to her then she would have laughed in his face or even slapped him for asking to dig up her parents after the long time it took to get used to their deaths.

"I won’t send anyone to their graves unless I have your permission and unless we can confirm that you hold the power to heal from those weapons. It is a lot I have thrown on you but this requires some urgency," said Xavier.

While Xavier would love to have Selene go on enjoying her day without worrying about this, he knew later on she would not enjoy knowing one of her parents needed to be dug up and he didn’t let her know right away.

Selene didn’t answer Xavier as she walked to a chair to sit down. She needed a moment to grasp all that was said to her.

When Selene buried her parents, never in her wildest dreams would she have thought about digging them up. She would have never allowed anyone to but if there was a chance she could see them again, she was willing to take the chance.

Selene was willing to do it even if Xavier was wrong.

"Try it," Selene said, holding out her hand to Xavier. "Cut me now and see."

Selene noticed Xavier’s hesitation to do it. "I am giving you permission to do it or let me do it myself. If there is a chance I can see them, I want to know now and go there. Please."

Xavier searched for the blade he kept safe in his study and then returned to Selene’s side.

Xavier took Selene’s hand and held it steady to create a small cut. He stopped as soon as she winced and waited to see if a miracle would happen again.

Selene bore with the pain as she waited for the answer to their many questions. It suddenly felt like time decided to move slowly. Nothing seemed to be happening which dampened Selene’s hope.

Even though it was for a short moment, Selene was quite excited about the chance to see her parents again. It was something she dreamt of and could now be true.

Selene pulled her hand out of Xavier’s hold. "It was silly to think-"

"It is healing," Xavier said, pulling her hand back toward him. "Did you drink blood recently?"

"No," Selene shook her head. "Harold served me some but I gave it to Agnes."

"You might heal faster if you drank enough blood before this. You’re immune to holy weapons," Xavier confirmed.

"Good," Selene stood up, ready to leave. "We must free them from where they lay. Why aren’t you getting up with me? Were you not intending to dig them up now? I cannot wait."

"I’m sorry but it is possible you only inherited this from one of them so I need you to prepare yourself for the chance of only one being alive. I will send someone to dig up the graves and inform the caretaker it is because we want to bury them here-"

"No!" Selene disagreed. "They have been there for a long time. I must free them if they have been awake all this time. To think I went to their graves and never knew. We must get a carriage," Selene said, attempting to leave before Xavier but he held her hand. "Why are you stopping me?"

Surely, he must have known she would be impatient to see her family.

"I am stopping you to protect you just as I am sure they wanted to protect you. They most likely knew this was passed on through your family and kept it a secret even from you to protect you. You will be wanted by many if this gets out," said Xavier.

If a parent woke and created too much noise, Xavier wanted Selene behind the estate gates. She would meet with her parents here where it was safe.

"I will free them now but I cannot allow you to go there. You are not in any state to go there though you are excited," said Xavier.

Xavier gently palmed Selene’s face. "Do you trust me?" He asked.

Selene nodded her head. "I do."

"I want you to see your parents again and have your answers but keeping you safe comes first for me. I will send Lucas along with a few others to do it and bring them here. If there is a chance they are not awake, I can find a good place for them to rest here," Xavier offered.

Selene stepped forward to rest her head on Xavier’s chest. "If I cannot go, then I would only be able to have some peace of mind if you go there. Please go there and tell them you are my husband. They will come with you."

While Selene trusted Lucas to do the job well only knowing Xavier was going could not have her worry more than she already did.

How could she have missed that someone was alive in a grave? Had she acted too quickly when she buried them? Why hadn’t her parents told her they could heal? Was this why they weren’t concerned about the king and court coming to kill them?

Selene had many questions she needed the answer to but first, she wanted to hear that her parents were alive even if it were just one of them.

A kiss on her forehead made Selene look up at Xavier again.

"I will have Agnes come here with you. I will be back as quickly as I can," Xavier promised.

Xavier left Selene’s side in a hurry so he could get the answers faster. Now, he thought it was a mistake not to move her parents to be buried on his estate the time Selene went to visit them.

"Lucas, gather a few other men and meet me at the graveyard where her parents are buried," Xavier gave an order.

Lucas followed Xavier closely again. "I’ll the carriage-"

"I don’t need it," Xavier replied, intending to fly there. "Bring along a lot of blood with you."

Lucas changed direction to gather other men. While he worried about what they would find, Lucas was also concerned about Xavier flying around at this time. Someone might spot him and then this secret would be out.

"Dammit," Lucas started to run. He needed to catch up with Xavier to help with digging up the graves and possibly getting rid of the caretaker.
