Chapter 119: Abigail’s Statement

Chapter 119: Abigail’s Statement

In Chief Jimmy Hendrick’s office,

After hearing Abigail’s statement, Jimmy expressed his regret, "I’m genuinely sorry for what happened to you, Miss Snow. "

Finding out someone tried to rape her, and the man who did it was now suing her and even offering her a five-million-dollar settlement to drop his lawsuit, made him furious.

"Don’t worry, I will bring justice for you, Miss Snow!" Jimmy promised.

"Thank you, sir." After completing her statement, Abigail felt relieved. However, she was exhausted and no longer had energy.

Abigail wanted to go home now to eat and rest, but she suddenly remembered something before asking permission to leave.

"Mr. Hendrick, I want to report how your officer treated me like a criminal. They forcefully took my bag, and I discovered they opened it without my permission." Abigail was distraught with Hubner’s treatment of her.

She told Jimmy Hendrick how Hubner treated her. He had interrogated her with trick questions to trap her and ignored her requests to call her lawyer.

"And what made me feel like I was treated like a criminal? I asked for food or drink a few times, but he didn’t give it to me. I hadn’t eaten anything since lunch yesterday, but still, he ignored me. Mr. Hendrick, I might die in this place if I don’t eat something now, sir. I’m starving!"

Abigail felt relieved after expressing all her frustration with Hubner, which she had long held in her heart.

"Miss Snow, I’m sorry you were treated like that. My officers should’ve known better," Jimmy immediately stood from his chair and offered her various drinks and chocolate bars from the small fridge in his office.

"Thank you, sir..." Abigail didn’t refuse it. She immediately drank the water Jimmy gave her.

"I will make sure the officer who did that to you gets the punishment he deserves," Jimmy promised earnestly while sitting back in his chair. He had already heard from his right-hand man that Hubner was abusing his power to interrogate Abigail.

Abigail nodded slightly while eating an energy bar. She felt her blood sugar and energy slightly rise. Her vision was no longer as dark as before.

"Sir, not all officers in this place are bad, just Hubner. Officer Willow Reed was nice to me and treated me properly," Abigail added. She didn’t want Jimmy Hendrick to punish Willow.

"Ok. I will take note of that," Jimmy Hendrick promised. "Thank you, Miss Snow, for letting me know."

After Abigail finished her chocolate bar, she asked Rowan Sterling if she could go home. He allowed her to leave and promised to contact her if he needed anything about the case in the future.

"I will stand by if you need me, sir..." Abigail said, standing from her seat. She felt grateful that Sawyer had sent a capable lawyer to help her, even though he was now thousands of miles away in a foreign country.

Abigail could imagine Sawyer might be worried now. She wanted to return to her house immediately and video call Sawyer to tell him everything that had happened to her.

She turned to see Brody in the corner and could see how furious his expression was, as if someone had spit on his food. He must not have been happy to stay awake until this hour to accompany her here.

"Brody, I’m so sorry to make you stay awake at this hour." Abigail smiled at him as she approached the door and gestured for him to leave the room.

"Don’t worry, Miss... I’m happy to help you. I’m just really mad to hear someone act like that toward you. It makes me want to punch that man’s face!"

Abigail said nothing but smiled at him.

...

After Abigail and Brody left the room, Jimmy immediately looked at Rowan Sterling, curious about Abigail Snow’s identity.

How could Abigail Snow make his boss call him in the wee hours and force him to rush to his office to take care of her case?

"Mr. Sterling, can I ask you something?" Jimmy asked.

"Yes, please—" Rowan Sterling answered while putting a few things in his bag.

"Who is Abigail Snow?" Jimmy took a deep sigh. "My boss called me in the middle of the night and forced me to rush to meet you here."

Jimmy Hendrick was curious. He wanted to ask this question earlier but waited for Abigail to leave.

Rowan Sterling looked at Jimmy with a deep gaze. He also didn’t know Abigail Snow’s true identity. But he knew the woman was someone Sawyer Jones cared about. Because all this time, Sawyer had never asked him to handle his personal matters like now.

"I’m sorry, Jimmy. I can’t tell you about it. But ensure you handle this case well because if my client is unhappy, your chief... probably will send you to the border."

Jimmy Hendrick’s expression froze upon hearing Rowan Sterling’s sentence. ’The girl must have a strong backup. That’s why she can make Rowan Sterling wake up in the middle of the night to work on this case,’ he wondered while nodding.

"Don’t worry. I will resolve this case soon. Sir, what about the evidence? It would be easier for me if we had CCTV footage," Jimmy said.

"We have the CCTV record," Rowan smiled.

Jimmy was surprised to hear that. He frowned as he asked, "You have it!? I heard from my people that the crime scene has no CCTV record..."

Instead of answering him, Rowan asked, "Do you know where the crime scene is?"

"Sure. Crimson Leaf Café, right?" He still remembered Abigail’s statement.

"Yes. All CCTVs in the branch store memory in the main server. So, when something like this happens in any branch, and the perpetrator erases their tracks by deleting or damaging the files at the crime scene, all CCTV footage is still stored on the central server. And coincidentally, my client certainly has access to the CCTV footage."

Jimmy Hendrick was shocked to hear Rowan’s explanation. He didn’t think it would be that simple for them to obtain the exonerating evidence.

"I will ask my people to show you the CCTV footage," Rowan said before calling someone.
