“Whatever you order is fine, I’m paying.”
Li Yan responded absentmindedly.
Lu skillfully opened a bottle of expensive foreign liquor and laughed, “I know you’re distracted. But don’t worry, I won’t ask too many questions.”
Only then did Li Yan glance back at him and gave a wry smile, “You sure know a lot.”
“If I didn’t have this much insight, I wouldn’t be in this line of work.”
“It must be hard being a male dancer.”
“It’s alright, the pay is very good. Once I’ve saved enough, I’ll go to America with my girlfriend. Don’t laugh at me.”
“By the way, do you know who that guy just now is? He’s so arrogant.”
“Sheng Ji’s Zhan Guzai, he’s from a society.”
“Is that his thing?”
Li Yan looked at Zhan Guzai’s stiff expression among a group of men not far away.
“Of course not.”
Within a couple of sentences, Lu had opened all the bottles of alcohol on the table, one by one. His smile held a gossip-like intrigue, “Do you know who’s upstairs in the private room?”
“Who is it?”
“Huamao Group’s Judy Yang, a female billionaire. Everyone in Tsuen Wan is talking about it, they say Zhan Guzai is Yang Judy’s lover. I think Zhan Guzai is here to catch a cheater this time. Maggie’s going to have a headache for sure.”
Li Yan leaned back and asked indifferently, “How come I’ve never heard this rumor before?”
“Judy Yang became a widow at a young age. It’s very normal for passion to ignite. I’ve seen this kind of thing a lot. It’s not strange to me.”
Lu poured a drink for Li Yan, “But this Zhan Guzai really has some nerve, catching cheaters like this. Pretending to be a homosexual to steal men away, skulking around without any boldness. It’s so undignified; no wonder someone would step out on him.”
Li Yan stroked his chin and countered, “So? Is that really so undignified?”
“Of course it’s undignified. Aren’t there men in this world? If someone wants to cheat, they’ll definitely be able to find a way. If not this time, then next time. How can you keep tabs on them all the time?”
Li Yan nodded and raised his glass to Lu, “You make a good point.”
The lights in the private room sparkled.
“Maggie, you took so long just to come back alone? Are you playing me?”
Judy pouted.
Maggie felt inwardly distressed and after considering for a moment, she tentatively said, “Judy, Zhan Guzai has come.”
“Ah?” Judy looked puzzled, “Which Zhan Guzai?”
“Sheng Ji’s Zhan Guzai. He called for lots of male dancers to join him, I really had no choice.”
Upon hearing this, Judy’s expression became odd, “Zhan Guzai, hiring male dancers?”
Maggie seized the opportunity, “Judy, you’re not happy about it, I’ll go talk to him.”
“Ah, no need.”
Judy forced a smile, “If he likes them, let him have them all. Also, any male dancer who has accompanied male clients before, don’t bring them to me in the future, understood?”
She covered her forehead, looking disgusted, “I can’t stand gays.”
Judy’s reaction left Maggie quite surprised, but then she thought it over. If Judy and Zhan Guzai had no conflicts, wasn’t it better for business to be harmonious? She opened a bottle of red wine and approached Judy, “Where were we, Judy? Our people are here just to accompany with drinks. Normally no gay men come here, but if a client has a request, we obviously want to satisfy them. I don’t know what’s going on today; two showed up right away, both with huge appetites.”
“Besides Zhan Guzai, there was another?”
“Yeah, very generous. He was throwing around banknotes by the half-million. Anyway, let’s drop that subject. Judy, since you don’t want to see Zhan Guzai, how about I find a few more handsome guys for you? This time for sure…”
“What did the person look like?”
Judy suddenly stared at Maggie, speechless.
Maggie recalled for a moment, “Tall and skinny, pretty handsome too, pity he’s gay.”
Before Judy could speak, her phone rang.
“Where are you?”
Li Yan took a sip of beer and, facing the direction of the private room, connected the call to Judy.
In the private room, Judy crossed her legs, asking with a sneer but no smile, “What’s it to you, are we close friends or something?”
“I saw you enter Chinatown.”
Lu, who was next to Li Yan, almost choked upon hearing this.
“Ha! Tracking me, are you? Anyway, you’ll be leaving Hong Kong soon, so what I do is none of your business, right?”
“I can’t do anything about it once I leave, but while I’m still here, not so much.”
“Not so much? What, are you going to call the cops? Or perhaps you’d prefer to play the Terminator and come here for a shootout? That would really spoil my fun, you’re crazy!”
While the two of them were in the midst of their heated argument, Zhan Guzai and his group were also sitting on pins and needles.
“What’s wrong with you, just drink your damn drink, why are you touching me?”
Zhan Guzai cursed the man with a gentle face next to him, then watched Judy’s private room with apprehension. Suddenly, Ji Chai, wearing sunglasses, obstructed his view.
Just as Zhan Guzai was about to cuss someone out, he recognized Ji Chai and held back, only to demand, “Ji Chai? How did you find this place?”
“I saw, Brother Zhan Guzai, that your car was parked outside.”
The sunglasses hid Ji Chai’s eyes.
“Oh, right…”
Zhan Guzai took a deep breath, pulled out a set of keys from his pocket, and tossed them to Ji Chai, “Good timing, take Wutou Qing’s ‘cold car’ out, trade the goods with Mr. Ding for money. I can’t leave here, apologize to him for me. Tell him I didn’t mean to stand him up; please ask him not to take it personally.”
“No need, Brother Zhan Guzai.”
“What do you mean?”
Out of nowhere, Ji Chai aimed a paper bag at Zhan Guzai, “He said he would come to get it from you himself!”
Zhan Guzai’s pupils contracted, and almost at the instant Ji Chai took out the paper bag, he flipped the coffee table over and lurched to the left, pulling the dancer next to him in front of himself.
The dancer’s chest bloomed with several crimson blood flowers, holes punctured through his back, and he dropped to the ground with a thud.
——————————–
Li Yan was a bit drunk, and his normally sharp senses were nowhere to be found. He lowered his voice and said over the phone, “I’m really pissed off right now, and if you keep this up, forget the Terminator–I’ll even give you a show as Godzilla.”
“Ha! Trying to scare me? I don’t need to sleep with you to know your tongue is sharp enough, godbrother.”
Bang bang~
Two muffled gunshots interrupted Judy.
Li, who had been helplessly standing by, suddenly changed her expression. She drew her pistol, backed against the wall, and cracked the door open slightly.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Ji Chai’s expression was icy cold, and under the brown paper bag, the mouth of the gun continuously spat out flames. Members of Sheng Ji and the dancers on the couch were caught off guard; almost each one got hit until the handgun ran out of bullets, emitting an empty click of the trigger. Du Yanbiao, with bloodshot eyes, lunged forward, wrapped his arms around Ji Chai’s waist, and the two went down to the ground. Zhan Guzai, lying on the floor in a hurry, snatched up a wine bottle and smashed it on Ji Chai’s head.
Unexpectedly, Ji Chai didn’t even flinch. His thin, hollowed-out body, seemingly drained by a decadent life, was now as immovable as a sculpture of steel. He kicked Zhan Guzai hard in the chest, Zhan Guzai’s vision darkened as he was sent flying, crashing against the wall like a hung painting, with a strong taste of blood surging in his throat; that kick had damaged his internal organs.
“Since when did Ji Chai, that damn Taoist, become so fierce?!”
As Zhan Guzai lay there dazed, this question flashed through his mind.
