Chapter 97: Agreeing to Become a Cultivator
After walking for a while, Jun Wu Xiao and Xia Ni arrived at a seemingly ordinary ice cream shop.
Xia Ni assessed the shop for a moment before speaking:
"This place must have opened recently."
"That’s right, let’s go inside." Jun Wu Xiao replied.
He then pushed the door open, and the two of them walked in. As soon as the shop owner saw Xia Ni, he immediately recognized who had come. It wasn’t because he was familiar with Xia Ni’s face, but due to the attire Xia Ni was wearing. Apart from the emperor, no one else would dare to wear such clothes.
The shop owner hurriedly knelt down and said:
"Greetings, Your Majesty."
"Stand up. There’s no need to be nervous. I’m just here to have some ice cream and see what kind of person you are that he speaks so highly of." Xia Ni said.
The shop owner glanced at Jun Wu Xiao. At that moment, he felt immense pressure. In front of him were two of the highest figures in society. As an ordinary shop owner, he was at a loss for what to do.
Jun Wu Xiao noticed his discomfort and smiled:
"Relax. We’re not here to cause you any trouble. He just wants to ask you some questions. If you meet the criteria, you might get to join."
The shop owner was taken aback. He couldn’t fathom what abilities he might possess that warranted the emperor’s presence. He asked:
"Your Majesty, please ask whatever you wish. I will answer everything truthfully."
Xia Ni, noticing the shop owner’s still somewhat cautious demeanor, didn’t push him to be completely at ease. After all, not everyone was as abnormal as his friends. He began to ask:
"What is your view on monsters? What is your attitude towards them?"
Hearing the question about monsters, the shop owner did not hesitate and replied with a tone of anger:
"Those vile creatures should not exist in this world."
Xia Ni nodded. This attitude was very suitable for an ordinary person. Moreover, this attitude was one of anger rather than fear, showing potential. He continued to ask:
"If there were a way to give you enough power to confront monsters, but the price to pay was very high, would you agree?"
The shop owner was momentarily stunned by what he heard, as it was truly hard to believe. But then he spoke with a determined voice:
"Your Majesty, please show me the way to gain power."
Xia Ni was slightly surprised that the shop owner did not ask about the price to be paid but instead agreed immediately. He asked:
"Why don’t you ask what the price is?"
The shop owner seriously replied:
"If Your Majesty is making this offer, then it is certain that the price is within my capability to pay. If I can afford it, why should I hesitate?"
Xia Ni nodded, beginning to regard the man in front of him more highly. He thought:
"Impressive. No wonder Jun Wu Xiao holds you in such esteem. However, he wasn’t wrong. That guy may struggle to go too far on the path of cultivation, but for humanity, this is sufficient."
He did not underestimate the shop owner. Xia Ni could see in him that he was too ’human’. This referred to the emotions and thoughts that were too similar to those of ordinary humans, and his vision wasn’t broad enough. Cultivation was about walking the path to become something beyond human, and with such a mindset, it was difficult to go very far.
These emotions and thoughts, along with the limited perspective of an ordinary human, would hinder his progress. Could this be changed? The answer was no, it was his nature, his true self. Even if he could deceive the world, he could not deceive himself. People can change many aspects of themselves, but their true self remains unchanged.
This issue could be considered a part of cultivation talent. The usefulness of such talent is only apparent when one is strong enough.
After all, not everyone could be compared to Jun Wu Xiao and his friends. They were all peculiar individuals cultivating for strange purposes.
The problem here was that they were crazy enough to cultivate without knowing if it was possible. They persevered tirelessly for many years, never stopping even when their power far surpassed that of ordinary humans.
Among them, the ones who seemed the most human were Chen Wo Lun, Chu Wu, and Jun Wu Xiao. Even so, this was not entirely accurate. Chen Wo Lun was obsessed with understand life and death, something an ordinary person wouldn’t usually concern themselves with.
Chu Wu initially aimed to unify humanity, but later cultivated to protect the world—though the world he referred to was much broader than just Earth. As for Jun Wu Xiao, he was the most eccentric and incomprehensible, cultivating for the most nonsense reasons.
The remaining seven seemed to be shouldering some bizarre responsibilities that defied common sense. They cultivated because they felt compelled to become stronger, but the reasons why remained incredibly vague even to them.
In summary, finding someone comparable to them in this world would be exceedingly difficult.
"Now, let me explain a bit about cultivation." Xia Ni said.
He then began to discuss the basic elements of cultivation and the necessary practices. It wasn’t much, so he finished quickly.
"Your Majesty, are you serious? Just like that, I can become stronger?" the shop owner asked.
"Oh, do you really find it that easy?" Jun Wu Xiao said.
"No, I didn’t say it was easy. It just seems so ordinary. I thought it would be something more extraordinary." the shop owner replied.
Jun Wu Xiao then explained:
"It’s not ordinary at all. Typically, people train their bodies methodically to look better and feel healthier. But cultivation is different. It’s about enduring pain for countless years to break through limits. Afterward, you enjoy the results... just kidding. Then you continue to endure pain to break through to the next level. You keep doing this until you die or can no longer break through. Do you really think this is ordinary?"
Hearing this, the shop owner nodded. He didn’t actually think cultivation was easy. It was just different from what he had imagined.
"So, what do you think? Will you agree to become a cultivator to help humanity in the future?" Xia Ni asked.
The shop owner immediately knelt down and said:
"My name is Li Ming. From now on, I will follow Your Majesty’s orders, become a cultivator, and serve as a shield to protect humanity."
"Ha ha, very good. You have potential." Xia Ni smiled and said.
