Chapter 87: I want to Abdicate!

Chapter 87: I want to Abdicate!

A month had passed, and by this time, many construction projects had been completed. All of them were essential structures that were the simplest to build to support the lives of the people.

More than twenty million people had now settled into their lives. It was quite fortunate that they had not faced any food shortages.

The rice fields were planned to be far from residential areas, so the granaries were also placed at a considerable distance. Moreover, since there weren’t many thieves, there were no significant issues.

Thanks to this, the food supplies were not destroyed during the monster attack. If not, there would indeed have been riots due to hunger.

In reality, even if people are incredibly kind in their daily lives when faced with a lack of food, they can become frenzied. Although there are some exceptions, they are in the minority. If such a situation occurred, cannibalism (eating those who had died from starvation) could also happen.

However, cannibalism leads to many diseases: prion diseases, infections, and various other contagious illnesses. Simply put, even after eating, one wouldn’t live much longer and would eventually die as well.

Moreover, they couldn’t eat leaves like cultivators and couldn’t endure hunger for long periods, making food extremely necessary.

.....

At this moment, in the hospital room, Yue Guang was cultivating. She had only just started a few days ago. After cultivating for a while, she thought:

"It’s really inconvenient. Even though my hearing is very good, being blind is truly a bit unsettling. I can’t determine the position of objects just by sound. If they don’t make any noise, I can’t sense them at all. Although I’ve been blind for over a month, I still can’t get used to it."

Suddenly, she thought of Dao San Qian and said:

"Speaking of which, Dao San Qian is still the most miserable. No matter how many years it takes me, the time he needs to break through will be twenty years longer than mine."

Then she continued to cultivate, as there was nothing else she could do at the moment.

Dao San Qian was also gradually waking up. Unlike Yue Guang, he wasn’t sleeping but had truly lost consciousness.

"Ah... am I still alive? Lucky me, but it seems like I’ve gone blind. Oh well, being alive is still better. I thought I was dead back then." Dao San Qian mumbled to himself.

He took a bit of time to get used to his body again, considering he hadn’t moved for nearly two months.

Did he need to go to the bathroom during that time? Of course not. As mentioned, cultivators don’t actually use food or water to sustain themselves. These substances, once ingested, are absorbed by their bodies completely, leaving no waste.

It’s not like carrying a weight on your body that increases your weight by the weight of the object. Leaves in their stomachs are not leaves but energy.

We have the equation E = mc^2, where energy can transform into matter and matter can return to energy. The matter in a cultivator’s stomach gradually transforms into energy. However, the amount of energy they can store is limited. Thus, any excess energy escapes their bodies in a non-material form, which they and those around them don’t perceive.

Dao San Qian then began cultivating again. He had no other choice and nothing else to do. If he continued cultivating, perhaps one day he might recover.

.....

Xia Ni had just woken up as well and thought:

"Am I still alive? How long has it been? What, am I blind now? Well, at least I’m still alive. If I can still cultivate, maybe I’ll recover in the future. Ah, wait, I was the emperor. I don’t know how long I’ve been gone. Are the people alright? Damn it, I need to find a new emperor quickly. How can I continue ruling now that I’m blind? First, I need to think of a policy for selecting a new emperor."

He then pondered deeply, wanting to devise the best policy for selecting an emperor for the people. Although he didn’t particularly enjoy being emperor, he wasn’t irresponsible.

After several days of thinking and revising, he finally came up with a method for selecting an emperor. He shouted:

"Someone! Come here quickly."

His shout alarmed the nearby guards and doctors. The guards, overjoyed, exclaimed:

"Your Majesty is awake!"

"Hurry... let’s go in."

.....

Those nearby entered the room and knelt down, saying in unison:

"Greetings, Your Majesty."

Although Xia Ni was bandaged all over, his imperial demeanor remained intact. He nodded and said:

"Rise. I have an urgent matter that requires a meeting with all the ministers. Gather them here as quickly as possible."

"We obey." they responded and immediately carried out his order.

The ministers were very surprised to hear that Xia Ni had awakened so soon. They quickly made their way to Xia Ni’s location.

A few hours later, all the ministers had gathered before Xia Ni. One of the ministers spoke up:

"Your Majesty, what issue prompted you to summon us here?"

The ministers quickly tried to dissuade him:

"Your Majesty, you can’t do that."

"That’s right. Haven’t you been ruling well? Without you, the kingdom might fall into chaos."

"Please reconsider, Your Majesty."

.....

Xia Ni shook his head and said:

"I’m not saying I will abdicate immediately. I will continue to rule for some time. I’m not irresponsible and won’t let the kingdom descend into chaos because of my personal issues."

Seeing that their initial attempts to dissuade him were unsuccessful, the ministers didn’t press further. However, they believed that with time, they might change his mind, at least that’s what they thought.

"So, what are your intentions, Your Majesty?" one of the ministers asked.

Xia Ni found it a bit strange that they had stopped trying to dissuade him so quickly. After a moment’s thought, he understood their intentions and thought:

"You won’t change my decision. But don’t worry, I won’t let chaos ensue."

"Alright, I will discuss this matter in more detail now." Xia Ni said.
