Chapter 81: Chen Wo Lun
Jun Wu Xiao continued heading westward. Before long, he reached the westernmost part of the continent.
At this moment, he approached a fortress, but the scene of battle within it left him utterly astonished.
An old man, severely injured and covered in wounds, was surrounded and besieged by six nine-meter-tall monsters. Scattered around the battlefield were dozens of monster cores lying on the ground.
However, what surprised Jun Wu Xiao the most was not the old man’s condition. He noticed a significant amount of explosives placed nearby, seemingly prepared in advance. He thought to himself:
"What on earth is this guy doing? Clearly, he has explosives ready, so why is he fighting these monsters barehanded? But I have to admit, his strength is formidable. He’s on par with Dao San Qian’s realm."
After contemplating for a moment, Jun Wu Xiao decided to move to a better position to observe. He said:
"Now that the tasks are divided, and with the support of explosives, everyone should be fine. Based on my observations, the number of nine-meter-tall monsters is very few, and there’s only one fifteen-meter-tall monster. Moreover, I’ve already eliminated many nine-meter-tall monsters, so the remaining number is not enough to kill them. So, I’ll stay here and watch the show for a bit."
Indeed, he wanted to watch the fight rather than help. Among the cultivators on Earth today, if he was the second most playful, no one would dare claim to be the first.
It was not surprising, given that his reason for cultivating was to experience all sorts of interesting things. However, he was not lazy in his cultivation. Otherwise, how could he be the strongest ’human’ at present?
The old man fighting did not notice Jun Wu Xiao’s presence because he was still quite far away. Moreover, the old man was too focused on battling the monsters to look around.
A monster raised its sharp claws high and then struck down hard at the old man’s position. He dodged lightly to the left, avoiding the attack from above.
As if he could predict the actions of another monster, he immediately leaped into the air to evade a horizontal swipe from another monster. He moved smoothly among the monsters, seemingly predicting their actions. In reality, it wasn’t too difficult since the monsters only had a few types of attacks.
However, knowing their attacks didn’t mean he could dodge them all. It was like when someone had a gun aimed directly at their head. Even if they know the opponent will shoot, at best, they can dodge one bullet. Unless the shooter is exceptionally inept, the target didn’t move but still couldn’t hit.
Four monsters simultaneously swung their arms at him from different directions. He used their arms as a stepping stone to move.
However, dodging the attacks of four monsters left him vulnerable to the fifth. It delivered a powerful blow, sending him crashing to the ground.
"Cough, cough..." Lying on the ground, he spat out fresh blood.
At this point, his body was more severely injured than before, appearing to be near its limit. He thought:
"Looks like I overplayed. If I don’t use the explosives, I might really die in a moment."
With this thought, he quickly mustered all his remaining strength and dashed to the place where the explosives were stored. He then lit the fuse of several barrels and carried them.
He chose one monster as his first target to eliminate. First, he charged at it to lure it away from the other monsters. Then, he delivered a powerful punch to its face.
The monster was sent flying, its mouth forced open by the blow. Seizing the opportunity, the old man shoved all the barrels of explosives into its mouth and then delivered another punch to its jaw, making it snap shut.
After that, the old man ran several dozen meters away from the spot. A few seconds later, a loud explosion echoed. He immediately dashed forward with the intent to quickly knock the monster core out of its head.
But this time, he was a beat too slow. As he tried to extract the monster’s core, the other monsters charged at him. With no other choice, he decided to abandon this opportunity to avoid the monsters’ attack. If he persisted in extracting the core, he might kill one monster but would likely die right after.
Jun Wu Xiao had been intently watching the battle the entire time. Seeing the old man suddenly change his fighting style, he seemed to understand something. He said:
"Hmm? Done playing around? Haha, but it looks like you overplayed it and are in a tough spot now. Well, I’ll help you out a bit. After all, my task is to clear out the monsters in the west."
With that, Jun Wu Xiao immediately ran to the battlefield to assist the old man.
When he first started observing, he had already somewhat grasped the old man’s intentions. Although he couldn’t say for certain, it seemed the old man wanted to fight the monsters with his own strength rather than using explosives. Moreover, there were no civilians around, which meant they had been evacuated long ago.
From the old man’s recent actions with the explosives, Jun Wu Xiao understood that he was very familiar with using them, not inexperienced. So, earlier, he was probably playing or trying to experience something new.
But this time, the old man had overplayed, leading to him being beaten to the point of having to flee.
Jun Wu Xiao ran at an incredibly fast speed, then leaped up and kicked one monster in the head. The monster was sent flying, dragging three other monsters down with it.
His powerful kick caused such a commotion that the old man stopped and turned around to look. Seeing Jun Wu Xiao, he was very surprised. He thought:
"I didn’t expect to meet someone so much stronger than myself. Even at my peak, my strength was nowhere near this level."
The old man decided not to run anymore and turned back to attack the monsters. The only monster still standing was kicked to the ground by him.
Jun Wu Xiao was about to strike that monster, but seeing the old man return, he paused for a moment.
The old man looked at him and said:
"My name is Chen Wo Lun. Although I don’t know who you are, since you’re here, I have no reason to run anymore. Even though I’m much weaker now, I’m not entirely useless."
"Haha, good. My name is Jun Wu Xiao. Let’s deal with these monsters together and talk afterward." Jun Wu Xiao said.
"Agreed." Chen Wo Lun nodded. The two of them then began to attack the monsters together.
