Chapter 79: Next plan
Jun Wu Xiao slowly approached the tent. The guards, upon seeing him, initially shuddered at his appearance. However, they quickly regained their composure and said:
"Unauthorized personnel are not allowed in here."
Seeing them blocking his way, Jun Wu Xiao said:
"I have come to meet the emperor and some friends of mine. But is this where the emperor is being treated?"
The guards were taken aback for a moment. They understood that he meant no harm, but Xia Ni was in a critical stage of treatment and couldn’t be disturbed. One guard said:
"I’m sorry, but His Majesty’s condition is very serious, and he cannot be disturbed."
Jun Wu Xiao frowned. He knew Xia Ni was being treated but was unaware of the severity of his injuries. He asked:
"Are there others? I mean, some very strong individuals. They are also my friends, and I have important matters to discuss with them, so please lead the way."
The guards pondered for a moment and then said:
"Alright, I will take you to meet the others. But you cannot meet His Majesty at this time."
"Thank you." Jun Wu Xiao expressed his gratitude and followed the guard.
After a while, they arrived at another smaller tent nearby. He called out to those inside:
"I’m here. Are you all in there?"
Chu Wu and four others heard his voice and immediately came out to greet him. As soon as they stepped outside, he was confronted with the sight of an old man missing his left arm, his entire body covered in blood and mud.
The four of them were momentarily stunned, and Jun Wu Xiao scrutinized them closely. Seeing that they still had all their limbs intact, he breathed a sigh of relief and said:
"It’s a relief that you are all still alive."
"Your arm... Did something happen in the Kunlun Mountains? I thought there weren’t many monsters there." Chu Wu asked, frowning.
Jun Wu Xiao looked at his missing arm and said:
"This was bitten off by a nine-meter-tall monster while I was saving Yue Guang. According to Yue Guang’s speculation, the distribution of monsters depends on the total strength and number of people in that area. There might not be people in the Kunlun Mountains, but the three of us are among the strongest on Earth right now, so we had to face nearly a hundred of them."
The four of them nodded in agreement. They hadn’t spent much time outside to investigate, so their understanding wasn’t very precise.
"Ah, have you seen Dao San Qian? And what’s going on with Xia Ni?" Jun Wu Xiao continued to ask.
Chu Wu looked at the other three. Seeing them nod, he said:
"Dao San Qian and Xia Ni are both being treated. You saw the devastation caused by the explosives on the battlefield. Xia Ni and Dao San Qian were affected by the explosion because they were quite close when it happened. Now their bodies are burned but not reduced to ashes, their forms remain intact, and their limbs are still there. But they are both still unconscious and can only breathe."
Jun Wu Xiao’s face darkened upon hearing the bad news. But soon after, he frowned again, he though:
"Wait, how can their bodies remain intact after facing such massive explosions? I’m much stronger than they are, but I know I would be reduced to ashes or just a few fragments. This is really strange, it doesn’t make sense. But if they are still breathing, maybe they’ll recover on their own, though it will likely take a long time."
Seeing his expression change quickly, not only Chu Wu but also the other three felt utterly puzzled. They exchanged glances and then collectively shook their heads.
Sheng Yuan asked him, her face full of confusion:
"What’s wrong with you? Why is your expression changing so quickly?"
Jun Wu Xiao was pulled from his thoughts by her voice. He said:
"Ah, nothing. If they can still breathe after facing those massive explosions, then there’s a chance they can recover. But now is not the time to dwell on this."
Chu Wu’s face was full of confusion. He could see that when Jun Wu Xiao first heard the news, he was very sad. But Jun Wu Xiao’s current attitude puzzled him. He said:
"Should I call you heartless or caring? You were just sad a moment ago, but now you’re ignoring them?"
Jun Wu Xiao shook his head. His speculation was too vague at the moment, but he felt that the possibility of their recovery was quite high. He said:
"It’s not that I don’t care about them, but there is much to be done right now. There are still many monsters, so this isn’t the time to stay idle here."
The four nodded in agreement. Indeed, the number of monsters they had seen in the sky was in the thousands.
"So, what are your plans now?" Yan Meng Long asked.
Jun Wu Xiao looked at their situation and thought:
"They’re severely injured, but maybe in about a week, they can fight again."
"You are all severely injured right now, so it’s best to rest for a few days or a week before continuing to hunt monsters. Let’s divide the tasks this way: Chu Wu and Sheng Yuan will go north, Yan Meng Long and Zhu Ji Feng will go west, and I’ll head east."
The four nodded. They were much weaker than Jun Wu Xiao, so it was better to go in groups rather than alone. But something seemed missing. Chu Wu asked:
"Wait, who will go south? Xia Ni and Dao San Qian can’t move. How can they go?"
Jun Wu Xiao shook his head and said:
"Yue Guang has already gone south, so you don’t need to worry about that."
Hearing this, everyone was enlightened. They only now realized that Jun Wu Xiao had come alone.
"Is Yue Guang okay going alone? And is she injured?" Sheng Yuan asked, sharing the concern of the others, as they were all friends and worried about each other.
"She was injured but has recovered fairly well, though she lost her right leg. I think she should be fine." Jun Wu Xiao said.
After hearing his response, the others hadn’t had a chance to say anything before Chu Wu began to scold him angrily:
"Damn you! Fine, fine my ass. Losing a leg and you dare say she’s fine. If she faces danger, how can she escape with just one leg?"
Jun Wu Xiao felt incredibly unjust. At first, he had tried to stop Yue Guang, but she had scolded him. Now Chu Wu was scolding him for letting her go. He said:
"I tried to stop her, but she scolded me. And then I let her go then you scolded me."
But Chu Wu wasn’t satisfied with this explanation and continued to berate him:
"Even so, you can’t let her go alone. What kind of Path companion are you? Do you think you’re worthy of her?"
Jun Wu Xiao just laughed and said:
"Ha ha, she confirmed to me that no one else is worthy except for me, so you don’t need to question that."
Chu Wu, now even more frustrated with his friend, turned to Sheng Yuan and said:
"Help me scold him. This guy simply doesn’t listen to me."
Seeing this, the three others laughed and shook their heads. Sheng Yuan said:
"He’s not wrong. Yue Guang is like me. If I were in the same situation, I would also decide to go on my own. If you tried to stop me, I would scold you too. Do you think she and I are afraid of death?"
"I... I..." Chu Wu stammered.
He thought carefully and realized that everything was true as Sheng Yuan had said. They had always said that only he and Jun Wu Xiao were the most different among them. However, they were different in their own unique ways, not in the same manner.
"Haiz, alright. It’s my fault. But Jun Wu Xiao, when do you plan to leave?" Chu Wu asked.
"I’ll leave immediately. There’s no time to rest here. Although I look very bad, I’m not seriously injured, so I don’t need to rest. I only came here to check on you, and since you’ve handled everything well, I’ll quickly go hunt more monsters. By the way, was the creature you eliminated the strongest one?" Jun Wu Xiao said.
The four of them nodded, and Zhu Ji Feng said:
"Yes, it was fifteen meters tall and incredibly powerful."
Jun Wu Xiao nodded, confirming his suspicions. He said:
"That’s good. With the most dangerous one gone, the risk of everyone dying while hunting monsters has greatly reduced."
The four nodded. If they had split up, they couldn’t have defeated that monster. Even if they could escape, they couldn’t run forever, as their recovery abilities were still far lower than the monsters’.
"Alright then, you go ahead. We’ll rest for a few more days before starting our monster hunt." Chu Wu said.
Jun Wu Xiao nodded and slowly walked out of the tent. As he reached the entrance, he turned back and said:
"Don’t die a stupid death."
The four of them smirked and replied:
"You too, don’t die a stupid death."
