Chapter 51: Arriving at the Royal Palace

A day’s time was not too long, and now it was time for the seven of them to prepare to depart for the royal palace.

"It’s time, let’s get ready to leave." Chu Wu said.

"Time... It seems like it’s been ages since I last used a clock." Jun Wu Xiao said.

Yue Guang and Dao San Qian nodded in agreement. Their cultivation counted time in days, months, and years, not hours, so they only needed to count the number of sunrises.

Yan Meng Long was a bit surprised upon hearing this, as clocks were not such a rare item. She asked:

"Do none of you have a clock?"

Before Jun Wu Xiao could reply, Zhu Ji Feng addressed her:

"You’ve forgotten where they come from. Besides, they don’t need clocks since their cultivation periods are at least months long."

"He’s not wrong. Our cultivation time is so long that clocks are unnecessary. Besides, we live isolated from society, and if a clock were to break, there wouldn’t be any means to fix it. So that is why I don’t have a clock." Yue Guang explained.

Realizing her question was somewhat silly, Yan Meng Long admitted:

"Ah, you’re right. I’ve seen many clocks but I haven’t used them in a long time."

"By the way, Chu Wu, are we going to run to the royal palace, or will we use some other transport?" Dao San Qian asked.

Jun Wu Xiao and Yue Guang looked puzzled for a moment. To them, running there directly was sufficient, so there was no need for complications. Jun Wu Xiao said:

"We run quite fast, so I don’t think we need any other means. Haven’t we always just charged straight into the royal palace before?"

Yue Guang nodded in agreement. If running was faster, why use another method.

"Ugh..." Dao San Qian was at a loss for words, it seemed his friends hadn’t considered the current situation compared to the past.

Hearing him, Chu Wu held his face in his hand and said:

"Do you remember what we are going to the royal palace for today? It’s to attend the discussion, not to capture the emperor, so we should respect the court’s etiquette a bit."

"Ah."

"What do you mean by ’ah’? Do you actually understand?" Chu Wu exclaimed.

Jun Wu Xiao and Yue Guang had become accustomed to acting on a whim, so they hadn’t paid much attention to these matters. Now realizing the issue, they both said:

"We understand now."

"Good, I’ve had a carriage prepared. We’ll all set out together shortly. And remember, don’t hit anyone or cause any trouble once we’re inside the royal palace." Chu Wu continued his instructions.

In his eyes, these two were the most unstable of the seven and also the most powerful, so he feared they might disrupt the imperial court.

Both looked at Chu Wu and Yue Guang responded:

"Are you suggesting we like to cause trouble? Not at all, we have always loved peace and hated fighting."

Jun Wu Xiao nodded in agreement, but the others were internally cursing:

"Trust you two? Among us all, you two are the most fond of fighting."

Seeing the expressions on their faces, Jun Wu Xiao laughed, knowing they wouldn’t believe him:

"Ha ha, just kidding. We do like to fight, but we’ve agreed to a truce for now. Besides, what fun is there in fighting with ordinary people? They can’t even withstand a single hit. We wouldn’t fight with them."

This time, his explanation seemed more reasonable, so Chu Wu felt more reassured. He knew they didn’t like to bully the weak but preferred worthy opponents.

"Alright, let’s go then." Chu Wu said.

As the seven of them stepped outside, they saw two carriages already prepared. Jun Wu Xiao asked:

"Why are there two? Moreover, why does one look especially more luxurious? Are you discriminating?"

Others also have the same question.

"No, the more luxurious one was a gift from the emperor to me. It’s also a symbol of status and is designed with only one seat. Moreover, having all of you sit on its roof would look very unattractive, so I had to find another one." Chu Wu explained.

"I see, but it doesn’t matter much. As long as we get there." Zhu Ji Feng said.

Everyone agreed, as reaching the royal palace wouldn’t take much time anyway. Otherwise, they would have carried the horses and carriage close to the royal palace and then boarded the carriage.

Soon after, they arrived at the entrance, where the guards saw Chu Wu’s carriage and had no objections, but they stopped the one following. They said:

"Please verify your identities before entering."

After hearing the request, the six people in the car started: you look at me, I look at you, we look at each other. Jun Wu Xiao asked:

"Does anyone have anything that can verify their identity? Technically, I’m not even a citizen of this kingdom."

"I’m in the same situation. The four of you, on the other hand, were born here, so maybe you have something?" Yue Guang added.

The four others looked at each other, they were indeed citizens of the kingdom but merely commoners. Sheng Yuan said:

"We are citizens here, but we’re just commoners. We don’t even hold the smallest official title, so how could we possibly have access to the royal palace?"

The atmosphere became extremely awkward. At that moment, Jun Wu Xiao came up with an idea:

"If we don’t have it, let’s just stay here. We can leave the rest to Chu Wu to handle, right?"

"Exactly, let him deal with it. We shouldn’t do anything." the others nodded in agreement.

As expected, when Chu Wu heard the commotion, he knew they were being stopped. He told his driver:

"Stop here and wait for me a moment."

"Yes, sir." the driver replied and quickly brought the carriage to a halt.

Chu Wu stepped down and walked toward the guards. Upon seeing him approach, the guards bowed respectfully and greeted:

"General Chu Wu."

Though he was no longer a general, the courtiers respected him enough to still address him as such. He didn’t decline their formality. After all, a title was just a title, no matter what they called him, it didn’t affect him.

"These are guests I’ve invited, so please let them through. I’ll personally inform His Majesty if there’s any issue." Chu Wu stated.

The guards, reassured by Chu Wu’s guarantee, felt confident enough to let everyone pass. In the court, Chu Wu was highly esteemed and trusted.

"You may all continue inside." the guard said.

Both carriages then proceeded inward. Upon reaching an area where only pedestrian access was allowed, Chu Wu got off his carriage. He had the other carriage stop as well and said:

"We have to walk from here, so everyone gets down."

"Ah, we’ve arrived? I want to see what’s so special about the royal palace in the greatest kingdom." Jun Wu Xiao said.

"Indeed, although I’ve stormed into imperial palaces before, those were from minor kingdoms. This place cannot be compared to those." Yue Guang added

The rest of the people were equally curious, after all, they were very poor. Now being able to go to a place that can be said to be the most luxurious is also very curious.

Although before on the hot air balloon, they only looked at the whole scene, so they did see it, but only the outside. Furthermore, they wanted to see the whole scene, so they did not focus on the royal palace.

Stepping down from the carriage, all six people were amazed at the majestic architecture before their eyes when viewed from a close distance.
