Chapter 47: Why develop?

Chapter 47: Why develop?

That evening, the seven of them wandered around the capital, encountering many novelties. However, what impressed them most was the object now before them, known as the train. This time, even Chu Wu was astonished.

A few years ago, he had deemed this invention incomplete and thus highly unsafe and prone to malfunction. Yet, he hadn’t expected that in just a few years, humanity would have devised a solution to these issues.

Jun Wu Xiao also noticed Chu Wu’s astonished demeanor, now realizing that Chu Wu hadn’t seen everything after all. He laughed and said:

"Ha ha, finally, something that astonishes you! We’ve encountered many oddities today, but this is the first time I’ve seen you so surprised."

Chu Wu did not object, his expertise was in military matters, not these, so how could he know everything? He replied:

"This isn’t something I’ve never seen before, but just a few years ago, it couldn’t operate well. Now that it works, I’m amazed at humanity’s capability. Perhaps after another period of seclusion, I’ll become obsolete in the era."

Everyone nodded in agreement. They didn’t understand why the world hadn’t changed much when they last went out, but in such a short time, it had transformed to the extent that they nearly knew nothing about it.

"Hey, do you feel the same as I do? It seems like humanity has developed very quickly in the past few decades." Jun Wu Xiao remarked.

"Indeed, the last time I went out with you, I still understood things, but now there’s a whole bunch of oddities before me." Yue Guang agreed.

Besides Chu Wu, she and Jun Wu Xiao were the oldest, thus they could perceive this change more clearly.

"Exactly, I’ve only been in seclusion cultivating for a few decades, and the world has become incredibly strange." Dao San Qian also nodded in agreement.

The others had no different opinions, they all felt the same. Yan Meng Long suddenly thought of something and said:

"It’s really strange. Clearly, in the thousands of years of human history, there hasn’t been such rapid change. Why is this happening now?"

Her question also drew everyone’s attention, and Chu Wu, who was the most knowledgeable about this matter, was deep in thought trying to figure out the reason.

However, he couldn’t understand it either, and since the issue he managed was unrelated to inventions, he was also quite unclear. He said:

"Haiz, I also don’t know why. But you’re right, in recent years, indeed, more and more strange things have been appearing."

As someone who understands human society well, his ignorance only added to the confusion of the others.

The atmosphere became incredibly tranquil as everyone fell silent, deep in thought, trying to understand why these changes had occurred. Suddenly, Jun Wu Xiao asked:

"Do you have any historical records of this kingdom? Ideally, ones that include entries up to the recent years. I think a thorough review might help us understand the causes of these changes."

Hearing this, everyone felt a sense of clarity. Indeed, sitting and pondering would lead to no results. Examining the changes over the years might better explain things.

"You’re right. Let’s return to my mansion now. Although I don’t have those records there, if I send someone to prepare, we will definitely have them by tomorrow." Chu Wu said, his urgency evident.

The others were a bit puzzled by his sudden rush but saw no indication it was for a bad reason. On the contrary, it seemed positive.

Sheng Yuan, who rarely saw him this way, asked:

"Chu Wu, have you thought of something pleasant? You seem quite happy."

Chu Wu paused, indeed he had thought of something positive but did not expect to be so transparent. He responded:

"I’m not entirely sure, but I suddenly feel that understanding this issue could greatly benefit humanity."

His words obviously carried more weight than anyone else’s in this matter since he had once been one of the most powerful humans.

Though now retired, his capabilities had not diminished. Rather, he wanted to focus more on cultivation and also step aside to give others a chance to develop and assume his position.

"Alright, it’s getting late, so we should head back. There’s hardly anyone on the streets anymore, so there’s nothing much to see." Zhu Ji Feng said.

"Yeah, let’s go back. I still need to instruct someone to prepare for tomorrow. Do you want all related documents or just a summary?" Chu Wu asked.

"Is there a difference? Are detailed records harder to gather, or is there some other issue?" Yue Guang inquired.

Chu Wu shook his head, not referring to the difficulty of collecting documents. With his status, a simple request to the court would suffice to access any records, but he was considering the enormous volume of documents if they were to gather all related material.

"No, it’s just that there’s a vast amount of related documents, and I think it would be hard to read them all in a short time." Chu Wu explained.

Jun Wu Xiao initially thought there was a more complicated issue but hadn’t expected this. He said:

"Even though you’re only in the late stage of the body refinement realm, you must feel a clear development in brain function. Surely, its operational capacity has increased a lot, hasn’t it?"

"Ah! Now I understand, how could I forget this? You and Yue Guang are in a completely different realm from us, so obviously your brain’s capabilities are much better. Of course, you would be able to read the documents much faster." Chu Wu acknowledged.

Jun Wu Xiao nodded with satisfaction, clapped Chu Wu on the shoulder, and said:

"Well done! A child is easy to teach."

Chu Wu’s face darkened at this, the style of compliment truly irritating. He squared up, looking ready to fight, and said:

"Damn it, are you asking for a fight? Who praises someone like that?"

"Ha ha ha, you two are at it again." the others laughed and said.

Jun Wu Xiao rolled up his sleeves, making a show of preparing for a fight. He taunted:

"Come on then. Whoever’s afraid is the grandson."

Chu Wu sneered disdainfully:

"Huh, do you think I’m stupid? You’ve been cultivating for decades more than me, yet you dare make such an outrageous demand. I spit on that, play by yourself."

"Ha ha, just kidding. Who really wants to take an old man as a grandson? Let’s head back now, there’s nothing left to see on the streets anyway." Jun Wu Xiao laughed and then prepared to return home.
