Chapter 26: Go to the Royal Palace

Chapter 26: Go to the Royal Palace

Four of them, along with ten thousand troops, swiftly set out for the kingdom, and this time, their journey was quite smooth, taking only a month for them to approach their destination.

Jun Wu Xiao gazed at the rugged mountainous terrain stretching hundreds of miles ahead as if a natural barrier enveloped the entire kingdom. He remarked:

"Chu Wu, I see this terrain not only impedes our advance but also hinders the kingdom itself from attacking. Moreover, the land here seems quite barren, the people likely do not live well."

Chu Wu nodded, understanding well that the terrain was a double-edged sword, beneficial yet detrimental. He replied:

"You’re not wrong. With such terrain, their trade must be incredibly difficult. If we succeed in subjugating them, perhaps we should relocate them to a better place."

Yue Guang and Dao San Qian also listened to the two discussions but paid little attention. They found such matters too troublesome and were merely there to watch the plays.

"Um, but it also depends on the attitude of this kingdom’s emperor. If he’s stubborn, this will be difficult to resolve." Jun Wu Xiao added.

Chu Wu nodded and responded:

"You’re right. If the emperor disagrees, then we’ll have to start by persuading others, which would be very time-consuming."

He wanted to persuade rather than fight because if he succeeded in persuading, he would receive some support from the kingdom. If you use force, there will be a very high risk of suffering resistance from the people.

"When do we need to start capturing that emperor?" asked Jun Wu Xiao.

Yue Guang, sensing that her involvement was imminent, inquired:

"Can I come along?"

"Of course, you’re a cultivator, so safety isn’t a concern. As for the weak Dao San Qian, just stay here and play, following us would only make you become food." Jun Wu Xiao teased.

Dao San Qian’s expression darkened, and he retorted:

"What do you mean when you say I’m weak? You’ve just started cultivating a few decades before me, what are you boasting about? One day, I’ll catch up to you all."

Jun Wu Xiao laughed and said:

"Ha ha, but what does it matter? That’s in the future, and currently, you are indeed weak."

Unable to counter, Dao San Qian was indeed weaker compared to Yue Guang and Jun Wu Xiao, he replied:

"Huh, I don’t want to talk to you anymore."

"Well, then Yue Guang will join me in capturing them. It might take some time since I don’t know where the royal palace of this kingdom is located." Jun Wu Xiao stated.

Chu Wu pondered briefly, his knowledge of this place was limited, and he wasn’t too sure about the location of the royal palace. He asked:

"Can you do it within a month?"

"No problem, within a month I will definitely bring the emperor here." Jun Wu Xiao confidently affirmed.

After all, this kingdom is not very big, within a month there is too much time for him to go away and return.

"Good, then I’ll rely on the two of you." Chu Wu said.

"Don’t worry, even though this is my first time doing such a task, I will definitely succeed." Yue Guang assured.

"Then let’s go. Oh, I forgot to ask, do they speak the same language as us here?" Jun Wu Xiao said.

Chu Wu paused for a moment, he had forgotten to discuss this with Jun Wu Xiao. He replied:

"I don’t understand why, but fortunately, wherever I go, they seem to use the same language as us. There are some differences, but we can still understand each other."

"Good, then let’s go." Jun Wu Xiao said.

After that, the two of them immediately left. Jun Wu Xiao’s mask looked quite scary but it didn’t matter much because his moving speed was even more scary than that mask.

After some time, they finally spotted someone. The middle-aged man in front of them was dressed rather luxuriously, riding a horse with a few followers behind him. His demeanor resembled that of a noble.

The middle-aged man was initially frightened by Jun Wu Xiao’s demonic mask, but upon seeing Yue Guang, his fear completely vanished, overshadowed by desire, dispelling his initial fright.

Even though Yue Guang was wearing a mask, her figure was still stunningly beautiful. The middle-aged man felt certain that her face must be extraordinary, and greed flashed in his eyes. He approached them and said:

"I am the district magistrate here. Would you be willing to become my concubine? I assure you a life of luxury."

At that moment, both Yue Guang and Jun Wu Xiao were taken aback, just as they were about to ask for directions and then faced with such a proposition, they were unsure of how to react. But quickly regaining their composure, Yue Guang replied:

"Thank you for your offer, but I must decline. Also, could you direct us to the royal palace?"

The district magistrate should have been angered by her refusal, but her voice was so captivating that he felt she must belong to him.

"You need not reject me. Living a life of glory and wealth is excellent. Come with me, and I will give you a life of abundance." the district magistrate insisted.

Although being a district magistrate wasn’t a very high position, his greed led him to amass a significant amount of money from the people, so he was not short of wealth.

Jun Wu Xiao lost his patience upon hearing this, as he was there to ask for directions, not to engage in idle chatter. He exclaimed:

"Hey, just tell me quickly. Which way is the royal palace? We don’t have time for nonsense."

The district magistrate had been ignoring Jun Wu Xiao, but suddenly being interrupted while speaking to Yue Guang made him extremely angry. He shouted:

"I understand now. It’s because of this man that you won’t follow me, isn’t it? Today, if you refuse to become my concubine, I will break his legs."

Jun Wu Xiao, irritated by the foolishness of the man before him wasting his time and now threatening him. He said:

"Damn it, I have been speaking politely to you. You just want to waste my time. Watch how I deal with you now."

The district magistrate was enraged and yelled:

"You there, rush up and break the legs of this man for me."

Immediately, a group charged towards Jun Wu Xiao, but in a brief moment, he knocked them all unconscious.

The district magistrate shocked by the scene, fell from his horse. After falling, he still stares at Jun Wu Xiao with eyes filled with fear.

Jun Wu Xiao, seeing him, said nothing but suddenly looked toward Yue Guang, noticing she had been silent for a long time. He asked with some suspicion:

"Are you angry? Why have you been so quiet?"

Yue Guang shook her head, then explained:

"Ah, no. It’s just that I’ve never been asked about these matters before, so my mind didn’t quite know how to handle this situation at first. I was thinking about how to deal with such scenarios in the future."

Jun Wu Xiao, hearing this, found nothing unusual, but it would have been strange if she were actually angry, as such trivial matters were not worth her anger. He asked:

"He wanted to take you as a concubine, don’t you want to hit him?"

Yue Guang shook her head and replied:

"Not necessary. What he wants is one thing, but whether he can achieve it is another. Nobody can prevent people from dreaming, but to turn dreams into reality, one must have the capability. Clearly, this man does not, so he is not worth our attention."

"You’re right, but how do you plan to handle him then?" Jun Wu Xiao asked.

Jun Wu Xiao was not particularly concerned, but since the district magistrate’s intentions involved Yue Guang, he sought her opinion. Yue Guang replied without hesitation:

"Just ignore him. After all, we are no longer mere mortals, so we needn’t fuss over such minor issues. Moreover, this matter should be left to Chu Wu and his emperor to handle as it concerns their future subjects. We should just focus on our task. Besides, my goal is to maintain order, so I cannot randomly create chaos by killing anyone who provokes me. If I did that, what right would I have to speak of order?"

Jun Wu Xiao laughed and said:

"Ha ha, you’re right. Our job is to capture the emperor. We don’t need to worry about much else, and this isn’t our responsibility."

The more the district magistrate listened to their conversation, the more frightened he became. Imagine meeting people so bizarrely powerful and them declaring they are not mortals. Moreover, you’ve just offended them—wouldn’t you be scared? He quickly said:

"Esteemed sir and mis, I was blind and have offended you both. If you wish to ask anything, I will answer everything."

"We don’t need to ask you much, just tell us which way the royal palace is." Jun Wu Xiao said.

"Yes, yes." the district magistrate quickly responded and pointed them in the direction of the royal palace, being an official, he obviously knew the way.

"Let’s go." Jun Wu Xiao said, and they quickly departed.

Left behind was the district magistrate, soaked in fear and sitting on the ground. He murmured to himself:

"Alive... alive... luckily I’m still alive. Was my head filled with water today for me to act so foolishly, and they are even heading to the royal palace to capture the emperor. This world is truly dangerous. From now on, I absolutely won’t provoke anyone anymore. I don’t want to go through this feeling ever again."
