Chapter 118: Continuing to Rest
In Jun Wu Xiao’s memory, Xia Ni had never been called the Saint Emperor, so he was very puzzled. He asked:
"Hey, what’s with the Saint Emperor title? I only know your father was called the greatest emperor. And you were just a regular emperor, right?"
"Eh, this isn’t very good for me to explain. Can everyone help me explain?" Xia Ni replied.
The origin of this title came from the people’s reverence for his breaking old traditions. Though an emperor, he voluntarily gave up his throne.
However, he could not be called the greatest emperor because his father’s achievements and exploits were numerous, and he could never compare.
The driver and the other travelers stood up, and one of them spoke:
"Humans call him the Saint Emperor to honor his contributions. He broke old traditions. He was the emperor of a peak dynasty but was willing to relinquish his throne for the sake of humanity’s development. It’s truly admirable. Although his achievements aren’t as great as his father’s, he is one of the strongest cultivators in the world, so humanity uses the term ’Saint’ to refer to him."
Jun Wu Xiao was astonished upon hearing this, and cursed inwardly:
"Damn it, what is this? Clearly, he felt that being an emperor wasn’t his path, so he found a way to abdicate. But humanity sees him as incredibly great, it’s really laughable. But from the perspective of a human unfamiliar with Xia Ni, he truly is great."
"Did you hear that? That’s the origin of the Saint Emperor title." Xia Ni said with a smile.
"Hmph, what are you laughing at? Everyone else is a god, and you’re the only outlier called a Saint." Jun Wu Xiao snorted.
"What are you showing off for? You know full well you don’t have the capability to be called a god. The only reason people call you a god is because they’re grateful to you." Xia Ni retorted.
Indeed, whether it was Saint or God, these titles were given by the people. They knew they didn’t have the strength to be called such. Right now, being called a cultivator was most appropriate.
The onlookers were dumbfounded and whispered:
"Divine beings don’t seem very dignified, do they? They seem to chat casually and don’t pay much attention to their image at all?"
"What do you understand? Judging gods based on human thinking is a very foolish thing to do. The majesty of gods is ultimately a human thought, or they are truly majestic when they work."
"I think that’s true. After all, they were once humans, so they might still have different emotions."
.....
They were not wrong. Using human thinking and societal standards to judge gods is very foolish.
Gods can be the kindest beings and also the most ruthless. Why is that? Simply because the universe doesn’t have concepts of good and evil. Only humans created these concepts to protect themselves and develop society.
Gods and humans, in the end, are two different types of beings, different even in the level of existence. Therefore, never expect gods to be moved by your reverence unless you are also a god, then they might be moved.
Jun Wu Xiao and his friends had a good relationship because they were of the same level and the same kind of people. Although Jun Wu Xiao was the strongest initially, he knew that those he considered friends had the potential to go far on the cultivation path with him.
Thus, even when Chu Wu was just an ordinary middle-aged human, Jun Wu Xiao still wanted to befriend him.
As for the many humans he had met in the past, he felt that the ’humanity’ within them was too great, they would never be able to hang out with him for long.
In short, you can have a good relationship with a god if you are not a god. But the condition is that you must have the potential to become a god in the future.
At this moment, someone took out a camera to capture the scene of the Saint Emperor and the Guardian God arguing. Jun Wu Xiao and Xia Ni were drawn to his action.
"What is that thing you’re holding?" Jun Wu Xiao asked.
Xia Ni was also curious. Though he knew about significant human events, he wasn’t familiar with their inventions.
After all, living in the forest, he had no need for modern devices. Insects and animals had to avoid him, if not, they would be unintentionally killed. He didn’t need fashionable clothes, food, drinks, or even lights since he could see clearly with just the moonlight and his excellent vision.
"It’s called a camera. It captures images, essentially recording moments." the young man explained.
"Let me see it." Jun Wu Xiao said as he ran over.
He was astonished that in such a short time, it could capture the moment he was arguing with Xia Ni.
Xia Ni was also surprised. He had seen cameras before, but they used to require a long exposure time. He hadn’t expected that now you could just snap a picture instantly.
Jun Wu Xiao looked at the photo and was amazed. The level of detail made it difficult to replicate by drawing. He exclaimed:
"Wow, I didn’t think something like this existed. Humans are truly inventive."
"Indeed, I had seen cameras before, but they were much worse. It took a long time to take a picture, and the image quality was poor." Xia Ni nodded in agreement.
"Humans have created so many things over the years, while we haven’t changed much. Apart from getting stronger, nothing else has changed." Jun Wu Xiao remarked.
Xia Ni nodded. It was true that for many years, he hadn’t experienced any significant changes except for breakthroughs in cultivation. His knowledge and experiences hadn’t evolved much either. He said:
"Each choice will lead to a different result. If you choose to live like an ordinary person, the world will be colorful. If you choose to become a cultivator, perhaps nothing will change forever."
Others who overheard this conversation gained new insights into cultivation. Being a cultivator wasn’t particularly enjoyable, but striving to reach the early stage of the body refinement realm and then stopping to gain an extra forty years of life was a good choice.
"I’m going back to sleep. You guys go wherever you want." Jun Wu Xiao said, then lay down on the sand.
Xia Ni did the same, rolling over to sleep again. After all, it would take a little more time to fully recover their bodies, and waking up now wouldn’t serve any purpose.
The others looked at each other for a moment, then got back into the vehicle to continue their journey. The unexpected experience today was quite special for them. The young man with the camera was about to have a large sum, as capturing the first photo of the Guardian God was going to be valuable.
