Chapter 394: 0394 The wish that started at age 22_1
Ellen Young remained silent, not knowing what to say, when the other party continued.
The Lonely Genius: "Actually, I was just saying, today as soon as my encyclopedia information came out, my Instagram story exploded. Everyone started tagging me, isn’t that annoying? I can only research AI, but I can’t be a freak like that. A freak like that must have grown up eating books, without the need for human food."
Ellen: "...She just learns a bit faster, essentially there’s no difference from ordinary people."
The Lonely Genius: "I know you’re trying to cheer me up, but you did manage to make me laugh anyway. Let’s not talk about that anymore. I think our discussion has made some initial progress, so we can start the experiment soon, but it takes money to do this stuff, and I need to prepare a detailed proposal to persuade those consortiums. If we’re going to get down to business, we need to secure funding first!"
Ellen: "Don’t worry about the money. I’ve already got it covered, and I’ve actually started the relevant experiments."
The Lonely Genius: "??????"
The Lonely Genius: "According to my calculations, just to get this project started, we’d have to throw in several hundred million. Not to mention the expenses needed when we actually start implementing it. You’ve got it sorted?"
Ellen: "Not exactly, but I’m not short of cash. Since I had nothing better to do, I went ahead and started the experiments, even though the initial effects are not very promising and there’s a lot I haven’t gotten ready."
The Lonely Genius: "..."
The Lonely Genius: "I’m going to block you for a day to cool off."
Ellen: "..."
She couldn’t help but chuckle.
Just then, a message from Clinton White popped up on WhatsApp with a picture for her.
The picture was of someone’s Instagram story comment.
Accompanied by Clinton White’s irrational caption: "Isn’t he downright shameless?"
After reading it, Ellen’s smile slowly faded.
The Instagram story was posted by Ruffy Smith. Because Ellen didn’t have the habit of checking others’ Instagram stories, she had no idea what Ruffy had posted.
It read: "Only when you truly meet this person do you realize how strong the desire to spend a lifetime with her is. I hope for the rest of my life to be by her side—the birthday wish I’ve had since I was 22, when will it come true, only then will I make a new one."
Who this birthday wish was for, Clinton White knew all too well.
How shameless, seizing the opportunity to declare his feelings?
Hah.
Not a chance!
He was determined to let the boss know the shameless side of this man.
And below, a bunch of people had no idea what Ruffy meant, but since he wrote "her," they knew that Ruffy, the perennial iron tree, was blossoming.
This guy actually likes someone?! Shocking my whole family!
Even his father replied below with an ambiguous smiley face emoticon, then added a word of encouragement: "Keep it up!"
Ellen’s gaze lingered on that phrase about the birthday wish since she was 22.
When she was 18 and had just come of age, that was when Ruffy was acting up. But since then, he had always wanted to be with Ellen.
After that incident, he disappeared for several years, not reappearing until Ellen had retired.
He sure had patience.
Reading that message, she pondered for a moment and then flipped to Ruffy’s Instagram story.
The post was made at noon, and now it had a slew of comments. Ellen and Ruffy had a few mutual friends, and nearly all of them had spoken up.
First there was Clinton White with an angry emoticon, followed by Zoe Lewis who left a comment: "Go Brother Ruffy!", which was replied to by Clinton with a bloodied knife emoticon.
Seeing this, Ellen couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter.
