Chapter 376: 0376 come and play cards with me, all night_1

Ruffy Smith was in Imperial City, and by all accounts, his birthday was supposed to be a grand affair.

However, no one had received an invitation to his birthday party that day, which meant the Smith Family wasn’t going to hold his birthday party this year.

This left people somewhat puzzled.

Ruffy was busy with his own affairs, but that didn’t mean he had no time to rest.

When the clock struck midnight, his cellphone began to explode with countless messages wishing him a happy birthday.

Those who wanted to curry favor, or who were on good terms with him, all watched the time, aiming to send their blessings right after 12 o’clock.

Even if there wasn’t a party, gifts would still keep coming throughout the day.

But he waited half the day for a message, and still didn’t receive the one from the person he wanted to hear from.

He sat on his bed, unusually sleepless; he really couldn’t fall asleep.

Maybe she would send a message during the day, after all, she wasn’t the sort to pretend ignorance after knowing the truth.

Yet without any message, he was left with an indescribable sense of bewilderment.

He forced himself to try to sleep but couldn’t settle down, and he had a dream—a rare one that left him agitated.

A real kind of restlessness.

In the dream, Ellen Young’s snow-white skin, her delicate neck, was just like he had seen in reality; there seemed to even be the sensation of his hands brushing over her smooth skin.

The dream carried vivid and enchanting colors, to the extent that when he woke up, he felt an emptiness instead.

He was awakened by a message that shattered his beautiful dream, leaving him very irritable, with a gloomy look in his eyes as he unlocked the screen to find—

Ellen Young: "Happy birthday."

He checked the time, 2:30 AM.

All the anger drained away, and he pressed at his temples, too lazy to type out a response and chose to send a voice message instead.

Ruffy Smith: "Why are you still awake?"

His voice was hoarse, with an underlying tone of unsatisfied lethargy.

Ellen replied with a message: "I was doing a little experiment and just finished up; I remembered it’s your birthday. Why are you still awake?"

Ruffy made up an excuse on the spot: "Birthdays are busy, they all send me messages; I have to read them."

In fact, he never looked at them, nor did he ever reply.

Ellen Young: "Oh."

Ruffy Smith: "I heard you’ve been in Imperial City recently? Are you busy during the day?"

Ellen Young: "I just finished the first phase of the experiment; I can take a break."

Ruffy Smith: "I’m thinking of coming over for a meal; you promised me that, remember? Consider it a birthday gift."

Ellen Young: "..."

Ellen Young: "Then what do you want to eat? I’ll go to the supermarket in the morning."

To the supermarket.

Ruffy Smith brightened up.

Ellen usually didn’t pamper anyone. In the countryside, he definitely didn’t have choices, but now it seemed she was in Imperial City, and since she was going to the supermarket anyway, she asked Ruffy what he would like.

Although he had rarely browsed a supermarket—having only visited once or twice—it still felt like a good opportunity.

Fearing that his voice might sound too excited and give himself away, this time he sent a message: "I’m not sure what I want to eat, I’ll go to the supermarket with you tomorrow. I’ll pick you up, and we can just buy whatever we see there."

Ellen thought for a moment, then replied: "Fine, let’s go at 9 AM."

Ruffy Smith: "OK, get some rest early; I’ll be there on time in the morning. Good night."

Ellen Young: "Good night."

Seeing the significant progress in the situation, no matter how calm he tried to be, he couldn’t hide the joy in his heart. He got out of bed, lit a cigarette wearing his pajamas, and shot off a voice message to Geoffrey Hann.

In the dead of night, Geoffrey, who rarely went to bed early, was terribly sleepy after being woken up by the voice message and was about to swear at whoever it was, but seeing that it was from Ruffy made him think something important must have happened.

Without saying a word after he picked up, he heard Ruffy’s cold and brutal words.

"I can’t sleep; get up and play cards with me, all night."

Geoffrey Hann: "..."

Worse than a beast.
