Chapter 217: 0217 She is Hadton’s Professor_1

"Mom and Dad are quarreling."

Even after hearing Lucy Wood’s somewhat cold words, Daisy Wood couldn’t help but feel alarmed, and tears immediately began to fall.

"I’ve never seen them argue so fiercely before. Now everyone online is criticizing them, and my classmates even called to ask about it. I’m just so scared."

Hearing Daisy’s sniffles, Lucy let out a slight sigh.

Unsure what to say, after all, Daisy was her blood-related sister, and there was no enmity between them, only a general sense of detachment; hearing her cry invoked a tinge of sympathy in Lucy, for Daisy was innocent.

But Lucy had her limits now, there were some things she could be soft-hearted about, but others that she couldn’t forgive.

"Make up an excuse, say you need to study outside. There is too much going on at home right now; it’s best you don’t stay there."

As far as she was aware, the Wood Family’s stock price had already begun to suffer, and Grandpa David Wood would likely be very irritable in these few days. Although he never scolded anyone at home, his temper was not small, and all the children were wary of him; at home, David Wood was the absolute authority.

Daisy was now the only Wood Family member at home, and Lucy thought that if anything happened, Daisy might become the venting outlet for that couple.

Getting out and finding an excuse to hide was the best option.

Daisy whimpered softly, "Should I go to Imperial City to find you?"

"Don’t come looking for me. What do you need me for when I’m busy filming?" Lucy thought for a moment before adding, "Don’t go looking for Ellen either. She’s not close to you and won’t pay you any mind. You have your own house outside, just go live there for a change of environment, and if things really don’t work out, you can go to another city for a few days."

Daisy hesitated, "Won’t Mom and Dad say something?"

Lucy snorted, "If you’re scared, then you can only stay at home. I have other things to attend to, I’m hanging up."

After hearing the dial tone from the other end of the phone, Daisy was still somewhat bewildered.

She always felt that her older sister had indeed changed a lot—in the past, her sister would speak to her in a gentle and soft voice, but now she seemed much colder.

Of course, having gone through so much in such a short period of time, it was natural for her to change.

When she heard the loud arguing coming from downstairs, Daisy’s headache persisted.

The Wood Family scandal had just broken out and quickly spread.

With some people deliberately adding fuel to the flames, it could not be suppressed. Now, when opening Twitter’s trending topics, some of the Wood Family’s hidden affairs were being aired out.

Naturally, there was no mention of the Wood Family’s business dealings; the focus was on gender discrimination, and the disclosure of details of what they had done outside was exhaustive.

For example, the Wood Family had been interviewed for newspapers, blatantly stating that they treated all their children equally. However, the information leaked by others told a different story.

And what sealed their fate was the undeniable evidence that they had abandoned a child simply because she was a girl. No amount of public relations could salvage the situation amid such widespread condemnation.

Affected by the scandal, Wood Group’s stock price plummeted, and David Wood was furious.

If it wasn’t for Olivia Johnson announcing their intention to cut ties with Lucy Wood, such a disastrous event would never have occurred!

He knew Lucy wasn’t responsible, and this mess was most likely connected to Ellen somehow, which further confirmed his suspicion that Ellen had developed an influential network around her.

And even more astonishing was a visit from an old friend, seemingly unable to stand by any longer, who came to his company and informed him of something.

"Mr. Wood, are you really unaware of what your second granddaughter does for a living? She’s a professor at Hadton."
