Even though Xie Liaosha never stepped out of the car, it was already pretty clear through the windows that the Lada had almost been blown to bits!

The bullet holes spread all over the front and rear windshield and the hood of the vehicle!

The security personnel who descended from the vanguard and escort cars ended up removing the doors of the Lada to drag out three limp bodies from inside...

The chaos on the scene had completely died down. The three Mercedes Benz vehicles formed a protective circle around the Lada, their hazard lights flashing.

After ascertaining there was no immediate danger, Xie Liaosha directed a first aid trained security staff member to apply emergency tourniquets to the critically injured team member. The injured member was then lifted onto an undamaged vehicle, and two security personnel were task with rushing him to a prearranged private hospital.

As for Xie Liaosha, he stayed behind to manage the aftermath.

On one hand, he had someone call the police; on the other, he dialed Wang Ye’s number...

Supposedly, Wang Ye and Kaja were the ones who were supposed to be seated in the backseat of the car that Xie Liaosha was driving. So, why did they suddenly disappear?

The explanation dates back to the start.

Even before attending the banquet tonight, Wang Ye had already instructed Anton to make preparations, essentially concerning his personal safety.

Even when leaving to return home, Wang Ye, as usual, got into the Mercedes-Benz that Xie Liaosha was driving.

All this played out under Tinov’s watchful eye...

However, no one saw that shortly after the convoy left the Turandot restaurant, it took a shortcut through a side alley.

An alley so deserted and dim that its lack of any vehicular traffic or streetlights...

After crossing the alley, the convoy resumed its course towards the apartment. However, neither Wang Ye nor Kaja was in the Mercedes-Benz that Xie Liaosha drove.

They had boarded a parked Cruiser shuttled in by Anton from the security base.

As the Mercedes convoy drove away, the Cruiser revved up leisurely and exited the alley, also heading in the direction of Wang Ye’s apartment.

The rear window of the Mercedes-Benz was a tinted privacy glass. Coupled with the night, it was near impossible for anyone to discern if someone was seated in the back, or who that someone could be.

Yet, as a precaution, a security personnel was engaged to occupy the seat traditionally held by Wang Ye.

Regrettably, an emergency did unfold close to the apartment, with the security personnel enduring grave injuries!

Wang Ye, fortunately, had just barely managed to evade the calamity!

"Boss, there’s been an accident! We were assaulted on the road near the apartment, we’ve taken down three gunmen, but... but one of our men is critically injured and is being rushed to the hospital," Xie Liaosha relayed solemnly to Wang Ye.

The Cruiser that Wang Ye was in was still halfway to the apartment.

Upon receiving Xie Liaosha’s call and post his report, Wang Ye’s heart skipped a beat, rattled with fear.

He thanked his lucky stars for his preparation, without which he and Kaja would have been the ones in trouble!

His brief spell of terror was immediately replaced by anger. Even without tangible proof, he was nine-tenths certain that Tinov was responsible for the incident!

As barring him, there would be no cause for anyone else to make a move.

"At any cost, and regardless of how much money it takes, try and save the injured team member’s life! You handle the situation on the spot, I won’t be coming over," Wang Ye commanded resolutely.

He then turned to the driver and instructed, "Head to the base!"

Given the present situation, it was obviously not safe for him to return to his apartment. He was unsure if Tinov had any other attacks planned. Erring on the side of caution, Wang Ye planned to take shelter at the base for the time being, undeniably the safest of options!

The driver nodded and instantly spun the steering wheel to do a U-turn, and the car accelerated towards the base.

Wang Ye then dialled another number, this one to Angelina.

Before calling, he was apprehensive that the call wouldn’t get through or wouldn’t be received...

Luckily, after only two rings, the call was answered, and a familiar voice said, "Hello, Misha."

Wang Ye breathed a sigh of relief, a smile gracing his face, and asked, "Angelina, are you home?"

"Yup, I’ve already had dinner, I’m just watching television," Angelina replied in a hearty tone.

"Something has come up, pack your stuff and hunker down at your sister’s dorm for the night. Tomorrow, I’ll send you to the Crimea Peninsula. Anyway, the preliminary election there is about to kick off, and you should be headed there anyway," said Wang Ye seriously.

Angelina seemed surprised, and after a pause asked, "What happened? Is it dangerous?"

Her quick wit allowed her to instantly guess approximately what was taking place.

"A small issue, someone is targeting me, my convoy was attacked," Wang Ye confessed.

This shocked Angelina even more, as she hurriedly asked, "Attacked?!! You weren’t hurt, were you?"

"I’m fine, the situation for the moment has been taken care of; I’ll be staying at the base for the next few days. I’ll be able to return only once this matter has been thoroughly settled, so I need to send you away first," Wang Ye explained.

Upon hearing his explanation, Angelina fully understood.

Without any hesitation, she agreed, "Alright, I’ll pack straight away, and head over to my sister’s.

Angelina knew that at this point in time, the best help she could provide Wang Ye was to distance herself from Moscow!

After arranging everything, Wang Ye disconnected and fell into deep thought.

Given the events that had transpired, he definitely couldn’t pretend as though nothing had happened. He needed to retaliate swiftly and strongly!

He had no intention of projecting the impression of being an "easy target"!

Instead, he wanted everyone to be aware that any attempt to harm him would bear relevant consequences.
