Chapter 1436: Chapter 1118: Election Fraud Case
The scene unfolding in Siberia was, naturally, unknown to Moscow.
If Rossiyana knew someone was buying votes in her stronghold at a high price, she would have jumped up immediately.
Yet, far away in Moscow, she was oblivious...
On January 23rd, the second round of the General Election had been going on for three days. With voting nearly complete in some regions, various news media began to speculate about the election results.
Of course, the media didn’t just sit at home and imagine the outcomes; they dispatched numerous journalists to polling places in different regions to conduct rough counts and investigations, ensuring their predictions were generally accurate.
Just like in the first round, before the voting had ended, several major media outlets had announced the advancement of Medvedev, Grezlov, and Rossiyana, with very close vote counts, necessitating a second round to determine the winner. A third round might even be possible...
The results proved these media predictions to be accurate.
According to the latest predictions, most media believed that in the second round, Grezlov and Medvedev were neck and neck, while Rossiyana began to show signs of decline.
The likely outcome was that Rossiyana would be eliminated, with Grezlov and Medvedev advancing to the final round, making a third round inevitable...
This fit the understanding of most in the political arena.
After all, Rossiyana had less backing and stamina, and as the election progressed, she would gradually fall behind.
Both Grezlov and Medvedev hailed from the Hilarwick Group; even though the faction had split, the influence accumulated over the years remained massive!
Plus, from the beginning, they both had advantages over Rossiyana in terms of prestige, experience, and track record. So those advantages started showing as the second round progressed.
After Rossiyana saw media predictions, she was understandably anxious. But at this juncture, having done all she could, there was no further recourse — she could only leave it to fate and wait for the final results.
Just when everyone thought the second round would end calmly and predictably, on January 24th, a piece of news from a small newspaper in Krasnoyarsk again shook the Moscow political arena.
"Shocking News! Election Fraud Case!"
On the front page, such an inflammatory headline appeared; under normal circumstances, such a publication would be ignored.
But during the General Election — the most sensitive time — and with the story directly pointing to the second round and providing quite substantial and credible evidence,
it revealed that mysterious individuals had been buying votes from voters with cash at numerous Siberian polling places over the last few days.
The newspaper even sent journalists to pose as voters to interact with those buying votes and managed to secretly snap photos, record audio, and film videos!
That’s why they dared to publish such a headline.
Moreover, the newspaper also had an official Facebook account, where they posted the electronic version of their news report, including photos, recordings, and videos!
Perhaps because the General Election was a hot topic online, this article triggered Facebook’s algorithms and was automatically promoted to the homepage’s trending section.
So, the news began to explode on the internet...
...
The news reached Moscow immediately, and naturally, Rossiyana was also informed. She went online right away to check the news report.
Seeing those unknown people in the video offering one hundred US dollars for votes, urging people to vote for Medvedev, she seethed with anger.
Rossiyana obviously realized that the Siberia Region was her stronghold; in the previous round, it was the Siberian votes that allowed her to stand toe to toe with Grezlov and Medvedev.
Now, that sneaky Medvedev was playing a "steal-home" trick, attempting to snatch her votes in Siberia — an act that could lead to her demise!
She immediately picked up the landline and called Wang Ye.
When Wang Ye received the call, he was at work in the Duma. After hearing Rossiyana’s account over the phone, he frowned deeply and immediately checked Facebook on his computer to look at the news report.
"Misha, you have to deal with it this time; they are too... too shameless!
If you remain silent now, who knows what they’ll do next," Rossiyana said furiously over the phone.
Wang Ye replied calmly,
"Okay, I know about it.
You can issue a public condemnation on your side but avoid directing it explicitly at Medvedev.
I know what to do here; I’ll ensure you get justice."
...
Before Rossiyana had a chance to issue a public condemnation, Grezlov had already made his move.
He even convened a press conference, inviting journalists from all the major Moscow media outlets, where he indignantly stated that this act was of extremely nefarious nature, constituted illegal behavior, and must be thoroughly investigated to give the nation an explanation.
He also called for the Duma and Kremlin to intervene immediately and form a Joint Investigation Team to swiftly uncover the truth, and suspend the second round of the General Election, since it was no longer fair or just, and it couldn’t possibly reflect the true will of the people!
