Becoming a Russian Oligarch After Rebirth

Chapter 1426: Chapter 1113: Frankly Speaking

The chimes of the New Year rang out, and time swiftly arrived at January 1st, 2009.

Many people, however, were not in the mood to celebrate this New Year, especially the three presidential candidates and their campaign office personnel, who were busy with the General Election.

The latest polls showed that the election campaign was still incredibly tense, with all three candidates’ support rates hovering around thirty percent, nearly deadlocked.

Currently, no one can know for sure who will win, as according to the General Election rules, one is not considered victorious unless their support rate exceeds 50%.

If this stalemate continues, this year’s General Election will be quite an affair, requiring at least three rounds to determine a winner.

The Russian presidential election system is a multi-round system. According to the rules, if a candidate in the first round wins more than 50% of the vote, then they are immediately declared the winner and the election concludes.

But if no one exceeds 50%, the candidates with the lowest support rates will be eliminated, leaving only those with more than 20% to commence the second round of the General Election.

Although Grezlov, Medvedev, and Rossiyana’s support rates were far ahead, there were indeed other candidates in the first round, but their support rates were mostly in the single digits or even lower...

If no one still manages to receive over 50% of the votes in the second round, then those with comparatively lower support rates will be eliminated, leaving only the top two candidates for the final decision.

With only two candidates remaining, even if support rates are close, there will emerge one with a slightly higher vote rate, and they will be the ultimate winner.

Unless there occurs a highly coincidental scenario where both candidates receive the exact same number of votes...

However, such a possibility is practically nonexistent given the sheer difficulty; but if it does occur, there’s no other way but to vote again, until a winner is decided...

...

Recently busy travelling, Rossiyana had also returned to Moscow and was spending the New Year with Wang Ye.

It was obvious that she looked a bit haggard, but she was still in good spirits, her eyes still bright.

"Ah, the election is truly tormenting. I feel I’ve tried every strategy, utilized all resources, yet still cannot lead the other candidates. Could it be I’m really destined to be a runner-up this time?"

The two of them were nestled on the sofa drinking coffee and watching TV when Rossiyana suddenly shared her sentiments.

Normally, she wouldn’t talk much about the election at home, understanding that Wang Ye was maintaining a public stance of neutrality, not intervening too much in her election.

Moreover, being a presidential candidate herself, she can’t be constantly seeking advice from Wang Ye, which would look rather incapable on her part.

Thus, Rossiyana also harbored a notion of ’competing’ with Wang Ye. She wanted to prove to the outside world that even without Wang Ye’s support, she could "on her own" complete the election and emerge victorious!

Today, she was clearly a bit overwhelmed and could not help but complain a little.

The pressure of the General Election was somewhat hard to bear for her...

Wang Ye gently pulled her into his arms, stroked her soft blonde hair, and comforted her unhurriedly:

"The election isn’t over yet, it’s not good to speak with such defeatism.

Besides, you’re still young, in your twenties, with plenty of opportunities ahead.

Even if you fail this time, you will have gained experience, made an impression in front of the people, and had your name remembered by many. If it comes to it, just try again in the next General Election."

Rossiyana, however, was not content, retorting, "The next one is five years away! By then I’ll be in my thirties, getting old!"

Wang Ye couldn’t help but laugh: "Ha, feeling old just after turning thirty? Do you think the Kremlin is about beauty contests, the younger the better? Look at how old Grezlov is, even Medvedev is considered very young. If you really get elected, that would break a world record. I’m not certain about smaller countries, but there has never been a president in their twenties in Major Powers like ours!"

Wang Ye knew that the man who was jokingly called ’the strongest post-80s’ by netizens was also twenty-seven when he came to power!

Moreover, that place cannot even be compared to a world power such as Russia...

So if Rossiyana really manages to take the helm of Kremlin at the age of twenty-six, she would absolutely be creating a new world record!

Hearing Wang Ye say this, Rossiyana also realized and laughed.

Yet, she still responded defiantly: "Aren’t you the same, at the same age as me, soon to become Duma Speaker? That position has the same level as the Kremlin, why is it reasonable for you to do it, but record-breaking for me?"

Wang Ye was for a moment at a loss for words because Rossiyana was right—what made it seem so natural for him to be the Duma Speaker and yet record-breaking for her to lead the Kremlin when they were similar in age.

It wouldn’t be possible to tell her that he had been reborn and shouldn’t be viewed by common standards...

Thus, he could only scratch his head and chuckle: "Your situation and mine are different, after all, I’ve been working in the Duma for so many years, and with no one competing with me, succeeding as Speaker was a natural progression.

But the seat at Kremlin is sought after by many, and that position is different from that of the Duma Speaker. That is the head of the country, in the truest sense!"
