Becoming a Russian Oligarch After Rebirth -
Chapter 1318 - 1059: Job Placement
Chapter 1318: Chapter 1059: Job Placement
At 6:00 p.m., inside the private room of Turandot Restaurant, Wang Ye met with Stekhov and Shao Yigu.
It was evident that Shao Yigu was feeling elated recently, his face glowing with a ruddy complexion and full of high spirits.
Upon meeting, he gave Wang Ye an enthusiastic hug and asked affectionately, "Haha, Misha, it seems like I haven’t seen you much lately, what’s been keeping you so busy?"
Wang Ye shook his head and smiled wryly, "Ah, I’ve just got too many things on my plate. If I had known what a mess the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was, I would never have taken it on."
Indeed, what had been keeping him busiest recently was the foreign affairs work, with constant trips and visits to other countries.
"That’s what they say: the capable ones do more work, and given your strength, it’s only right that you deal with more matters. Besides, you’re so young; should we really be leaving all the work to the old men?" Shao Yigu joked.
After some small talk, Wang Ye introduced Stekhov, who was standing behind him, to Shao Yigu.
After looking Stekhov over, Shao Yigu said with a smile, "I’ve heard of you, you’re a real man! You performed exceptionally well during the Car City War; it’s a bit of a waste to have you in a desk job."
Wang Ye then casually said, "That’s why I brought him here today to see you. I want you to reassign him to a front-line unit below. Stekhov, you talk for yourself, where would you like to go?"
Stekhov quickly saluted Shao Yigu, saying he wanted to go to the North Caucasus Military Region because the situation there was unstable and war might break out in the future. He wanted to be right at the forefront.
Of course, he didn’t mention to Shao Yigu that he had received information that Georgia might take action soon.
After all, he couldn’t be clear about when the other side would act or the scale of it, and Wang Ye had instructed him not to let this information slip.
Shao Yigu didn’t seem to mind. In his position, he certainly had far more sources of intelligence than Stekhov did, and he might have already received the information. However, since Georgia had not yet decided to act, it wouldn’t be appropriate for Russia to take any measures.
Moreover, from the Kremlin to the military, it’s likely no one would take Georgia seriously, as the country was just too weak!
The entire country had only a military force of twenty thousand, just over a hundred armored vehicles, and less than ten fighter jets...
To be honest, even if Shao Yigu received intelligence that Georgia might act against South Ossetia, he would likely take it as a joke and laugh it off.
The disparity in strength was just too huge!
He simply couldn’t imagine what made the Georgian leadership so daring as to actually stir up trouble...
...
After listening to Stekhov, Shao Yigu gave a noncommittal look and then looked at Wang Ye.
After all, he didn’t know Stekhov at all. Meeting him today was to give face to Wang Ye.
So what Stekhov said didn’t matter; what was important was Wang Ye’s opinion.
Understanding his meaning, Wang Ye smiled and said, "I hear it’s pretty tough over there. I say Stekhov must be a bit of a masochist, preferring the hardship and remoteness of that place over a comfortable military district near Moscow. Let him go if that’s what he wants. By the way, haven’t you been overseeing the military reform these past few years? I’ve heard you’ve formed units like the Special Mobile Brigade as the main combat forces; let him go to such a unit."
Stekhov felt deeply touched by Wang Ye’s words because he was speaking completely from his perspective.
As everyone knew, Russia’s economy had been down in recent years, and the military had been downsizing. The so-called military reforms were essentially a major reduction of the military.
Of course, the precious funds saved had been focused on establishing a batch of highly combat-effective modern units, the Special Mobile Brigades that Wang Ye mentioned.
With the brigade as the combat unit, fully mechanized and equipped with the most advanced weapons, their combat power was astonishing.
However, due to limited funds, there weren’t many Special Mobile Brigades; each one was considered an Ace Unit of its respective military region.
Being placed in such an Ace Unit would definitely be a good job. Moreover, Stekhov’s previous work at the Safety Bureau, though in a civilian capacity, hadn’t been low in military rank!
Being "demoted" to the Caucasus War Zone, he could at least mix a position as a deputy brigade commander.
Sure enough, Shao Yigu nodded and asked Stekhov, "What rank are you currently?"
Stekhov stood straight and replied, "Reporting to the Minister! My current rank is Colonel!"
Shao Yigu said with a smile, "Then it’s perfect; with your rank and experience, there’s no issue with you taking on the role of a brigade commander in a special operations brigade. Alright, I’ll take note of this. You prepare yourself after going back and wait for the transfer orders."
The matter was settled like this, with Stekhov going from a civilian post directly to the position of brigade commander of an Ace Mobile Brigade!
Of course, this would take a while still, as Shao Yigu wasn’t yet formally in charge of the Ministry of Defense...
After Stekhov’s work was arranged, he excused himself tactfully, as he knew that he was not exactly one of Wang Ye’s confidants. The topics that Wang Ye and Shao Yigu, two Big Shots, were about to discuss might not be suitable for him to hear.
After all, if he stayed, he would become a "third wheel," potentially spoiling the mood of the two bosses...
Wang Ye didn’t retain him but instead encouraged him with a few words, hoping that he would fulfill his duties with dedication after going down to the grass-roots units and earn his merits soon.
