Becoming a Russian Oligarch After Rebirth -
Chapter 1294 - 1047: Supply and Demand Relationship
Chapter 1294: Chapter 1047: Supply and Demand Relationship
Hannah serves as a prime example.
Before, she had never even heard of "Mikhail," not until Wang Ye wrested away the lead role in Russia’s entrance into the global stage, as a government trade representative, she then heard his name.
After some investigation, she was shocked to find that this young man in his early twenties seemed quite impressive.
The string of positions he held honestly made Hannah quite envious...
She had been in politics for so many years, nearly fifty years old this year, and had only managed to become a trade representative.
But it had been less than five years since Mikhail entered the political arena, yet he had already become a pivotal figure in the Moscow political arena!
Of course, this was because Hannah’s understanding of Moscow’s political scene was not sufficient, if she really knew, she would realize that Wang Ye actually wielded much more power than his visible positions suggested!
That’s why she thought of giving Wang Ye a bit of a thrashing upon their first meeting, sadly she hit a snag and was directly rebutted by Wang Ye.
Just as Wang Ye said, although Russia is the seller and the European Union or Germany is the buyer, theoretically, the one paying should have the initiative.
But the problem is, you buyers don’t have much choice!
It all comes down to supply and demand!
Aside from Russia offering affordable natural gas, it’s hard to find elsewhere, unless you’re willing to pay high prices to buy liquefied natural gas from other countries, transported by specialized ships, and bearing the high transportation costs.
So, no matter how you look at it, the opening of the North Stream Pipeline is far more advantageous than detrimental for Germany and the European Union. There is absolutely no reason to refuse.
It’s different on the Russian side, if the European Union doesn’t buy, then Russia can sell to the Asian market!
Don’t forget, in recent years, the region with the fastest global economic growth is Asia, especially a certain industrial giant, whose demand for energy is virtually inexhaustible!
At worst, if nobody is buying, then Russia will just reduce the extraction.
After all, the natural gas won’t disappear underground, it’s just a matter of extracting it sooner or later, but the European Union’s energy gap needs to be filled. Cooking and heating for the people, industrial gas usage, these are inescapable.
If we really compare, it should indeed be Germany that’s more anxious, so Wang Ye spoke with such confidence.
He wanted Hannah to understand that it should be her begging him to sign an agreement, rather than the other way around...
..........
Hannah probably understood this as well, so facing Wang Ye’s remarks, she did not stubbornly counter, but just nodded with a stern face, finding an opportunity to gracefully exit, "These matters, we can discuss in detail at the meeting the day after tomorrow. Enjoy your meal."
Saying so, she lifted her champagne glass and clinked it with Wang Ye’s.
Of course, Wang Ye wouldn’t pursue a victory, as verbal advantages are useless, what counts is what’s finalized in the bilateral agreements!
He also smiled and lifted his glass to clink with Hannah.
Clearly, at today’s welcome dinner, Wang Ye was the center of attention.
Not just because he was visibly younger than other figures of the same rank!
But also because everyone understood that the main purpose of this meeting was to settle the issue of Russia joining the WTO, so naturally, the leader of the Russian delegation was the most important person.
Thus, as soon as Hannah walked away, another person approached with a smiling demeanor.
It was someone from the Chinese side, the current Minister Hou of the Ministry of Commerce!
This was the first time Wang Ye had met this person, but in his previous life, he had quite a deep impression of him...
Well, a very charismatic person, tall and well-built, with elegant manners, and a graceful way of speaking, but whether for better or worse, Wang Ye could only say that he did not have actual contact with him and did not truly understand this person, so he couldn’t pass judgment.
But there was one thing Wang Ye was clear about; he needed to maintain a certain distance from this person, both publicly and privately, not to get too close.
So, when Minister Hou shook hands with Wang Ye with a chuckle, Wang Ye merely responded with a polite smile.
In their conversation, Wang Ye only exchanged niceties, even to the point of declining the invitation which Minister Hou extended—an invitation for Wang Ye to visit Mainland after the World Trade Conference had concluded. Wang Ye courteously refused, stating that his schedule was fully booked for the near future, but he would, without a doubt, visit Minister Hou at the Ministry of Commerce in the capital city when the opportunity arose, just not now...
Seizing an opportunity, Wang Ye steered the conversation away, "I’ve always heard Xiangjiang is a very prosperous metropolis, also known as the Pearl of the East. This is my first visit, and when I have time, I must go and learn from the advanced experience here."
Minister Hou paused slightly, then immediately replied with a smile, "It is indeed very bustling here, but as I understand it, under the guidance of Director Mikhail, Moscow, and even Crimea Peninsula have been developing at an astonishing rate in recent years. Oh, and they’re now referred to as the Pearl of Eastern Europe. With Xiangjiang in the East and Crimea in the West, they shine upon each other, haha..."
His remarks deftly flattered Wang Ye without seeming overt, yet one couldn’t deny their accuracy; the noticeable changes in Moscow and Crimea over the years truly involved much of Wang Ye’s efforts, and it could even be said that without him, these places wouldn’t have transformed so significantly!
