Becoming a Russian Oligarch After Rebirth -
Chapter 1292 - 1046: Tit for Tat
Chapter 1292: Chapter 1046: Tit for Tat
Busy with work, time passed quickly and before he knew it, it was already October. Wang Ye needed to prepare to lead a team to Xiangjiang for the Sixth WTO Ministerial Conference.
The purpose was, of course, to officially sign the accession bilateral agreements with the European Union and the United States at this conference and formally join the WTO!
For this trip, Wang Ye held the title of "Director of the WTO Accession Preparation Office" for Russia.
Although the title appeared modest, the associated power was considerable!
Because the office had been authorized by the Kremlin to decide on the spot which conditions could be conceded and to what extent, based on the circumstances.
Essentially, one could say that at the negotiation site, Wang Ye represented the attitude of the Kremlin, and the words he spoke and the commitments he made were as if the Kremlin itself had spoken and made those commitments!
From this, it was clear that the Kremlin had increasingly grown to trust Wang Ye.
However, sometimes it was proactive, and other times it was reactive...
The negotiation conditions with the European Union and the United States had also been listed early, and the Kremlin had reviewed the list. In its view, there were no major issues with the conditions listed; even if all were conceded, it was acceptable.
On some issues, Wang Ye’s stance was actually tougher than his own...
Thus, he was not worried about Wang Ye causing any "trouble" at the site or signing any "disgraceful" terms.
After all, even if the formal WTO accession agreement was signed on site, it didn’t mean that everything was settled. The bilateral agreements signed with various member countries during accession still needed to be brought to the Duma for approval through voting.
If there were any excessively outrageous clauses, it would also be a tremendous blow to Wang Ye’s own reputation!
Even if he didn’t consider national interests, merely considering his political career, Wang Ye would not act recklessly.
His primary task on this trip was naturally to sign official bilateral agreements with the European Union and the United States, achieving the goal of Russia’s accession to the WTO.
Secondarily, it was to make as few concessions as possible, to hold onto his bottom line, and to secure more benefits for Russia.
Only by accomplishing both tasks could he truly demonstrate his capability and add a glorious Chapter to his political career!
...
For this trip to Xiangjiang, Wang Ye brought quite a number of accompanying personnel.
There were people from the Economic Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, government departments, the Kremlin, and even the CEOs of the Russian Gas Industry Group and Pipeline Group.
Of course, once the entire delegation was at the negotiation site, there could be only one voice—that of Wang Ye.
The rest were there to assist him with the negotiations, providing relevant professional opinions, and then Wang Ye would make the final decision after weighing the pros and cons.
Wang Ye himself only brought Nova and a few junior secretaries from his office.
Wang Ye was responsible for too many complex matters now, and he had only two old assistants left, Nova and Bakova, who could hardly keep up.
Thus, two years earlier, which was when Rossiyana and Wang Ye "separated", Wang Ye’s office had undergone another expansion, recruiting several new secretaries to share the workload with Bakova and Nova.
However, Wang Ye had less contact with these new secretaries and had no energy to personally train them; he left their management to the two senior assistants.
Nova was only a year younger than Wang Ye, and after several years of working alongside Wang Ye, she was no longer the naive young girl she once was.
With a height just over 170 cm, a graceful figure, a slightly chubby face, and bright, clear eyes, if one were to describe such a girl using internet terminology from later generations, she would be referred to as the "epitome of pure desire"!
Although she was still pursuing her master’s degree, being by Wang Ye’s side for many years and exposed to high-level people and matters meant that her thinking and ability to handle affairs were already many times better than those of her peers.
Even by Wang Ye’s side, she could now hold her own, and Wang Ye confidently entrusted her with more important tasks.
Just like with these accession negotiations...
After taking over the leadership from the government and establishing a dedicated WTO Accession Preparation Office, Wang Ye did not manage much at the initial stage and directly entrusted Nova to handle it.
She coordinated with personnel from various departments and related experts to communicate and negotiate with representatives from Europe and the United States until the final framework was agreed upon.

On October 15th, Wang Ye and his party arrived in Xiangjiang on a public service special aircraft smoothly.
WTO staff came to the Airport to pick them up and took them to the designated hotel for this conference, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
The official start of the Sixth WTO Ministerial Conference was on October 18th, and Wang Ye arrived three days early, so most of the WTO member country participants had not yet arrived in Xiangjiang.
Aside from Wang Ye’s group, it would also be the day the American delegation and the EU delegation arrived in Xiangjiang.
They came early naturally to consult with Wang Ye’s delegation and to sign the official bilateral agreements before the ministerial conference began.
Wang Ye arrived at noon, while the EU and American delegations arrived in Xiangjiang in the afternoon. The conference organizers held a special dinner in the evening to welcome the three delegations.
Since this WTO Ministerial Conference was held in Xiangjiang, the host was naturally China, which had officially joined the WTO back in 2001.
