Chapter 1262: Chapter 1031: Uninvited Guests
Wang Ye turned his head toward Natalia and asked, "How are things in Kiev?"
Understanding his concern, Natalia replied, "Very stable, nothing unexpected has occurred. Recently, I’ve pushed through a new regulation strictly controlling foreign investment in the media industry and the expansion of overseas media organizations within Ukraine. Although some embassies from certain countries have lodged what they call protests, saying we are interfering with press freedom, nobody pays them any mind. After all, Ukraine hasn’t really gained any benefits from them, so naturally, there’s no need to consider their opinions."
Wang Ye smiled knowingly; it seemed the situation in Kiev was exactly as he had anticipated. At this stage, the city’s only reliance was on Russia.
Last year’s General Election had completely torn apart any facade of cooperation with certain Overseas Forces, leaving no road back.
Moreover, since the Former Soviet Breakdown, Ukraine’s days have only become bleaker, hardly reaping any significant benefits from others, to the point that even some promises made by countries were never fulfilled!
Currently controlling Kiev are three individuals resolutely standing on Russia’s side, or rather, on his side...
Relations with Europe and the United States have become quite tense, with no chance of easing in the short term.
And with Natalia, Wang Ye’s staunchly loyal "right-hand person," stationed in Kiev, and serving as the powerful Attorney General, the other two individuals would hardly dare to make any rash moves.
There was no chance for Nova to interject in the discussion; she could only bury her head in her food.
Angelina glanced at her sister and asked Wang Ye with a smile, "Nova has been trained by your side for several years now. She’s in graduate school and will graduate next year. She can’t just continue on to a Doctorate; that would be too much of a delay. What are your plans for her future development?"
Indeed, although Nova was still considered a "child" in Wang Ye’s eyes, she was actually only a year younger than him, and both of them had entered college in the same year.
Upon completing his undergraduate degree last year, Wang Ye did not continue his studies, as it was unnecessary; Moscow University had already awarded him an honorary doctorate.
While Nova, on the other hand, had continued on to graduate school but was set to graduate next year.
From Angelina’s tone, it seemed she wasn’t planning to let Nova continue on to a Doctorate, which would take another three years.
For Nova, whether she pursued a doctorate or not was inconsequential; it wouldn’t affect her future development.
Wang Ye pondered for a moment, then looked at Nova and asked, "Nova, what do you think? What interests you the most?"
Upon hearing her sister and Wang Ye discussing her future, Nova quickly raised her head, swallowing the food in her mouth, and replied, "Ah? This... I really don’t know. I’m currently Misha’s Assistant, and I feel pretty good about it. I guess I’ll continue to be an assistant in the future."
This response left Angelina somewhat dissatisfied. She glared at her sister and spoke irritably, "Please, how old are you now? Misha was only a year older than you at your age... Oh, he’s indeed only a year older. Look at Misha, then look at yourself. Aren’t you embarrassed?"
Clearly, as the older sister, Angelina wished for Nova to be "independent" and not just coast along under Wang Ye’s protection!
Being Wang Ye’s assistant was a dream many could not reach, and it would not be a problem for Nova to continue in that role.
But Angelina had more considerations; she also worried that if Nova stayed by Wang Ye’s side for too long and something happened between them, that would truly be troublesome...
Their relationship with Wang Ye couldn’t be made public as it was, and her good friend Natalia had also become involved with him. If Nova followed the same path, Angelina truly wouldn’t know how to face her family.
So, whenever she talked to Nova on the phone, she would hint at and probe into the relationship between Nova and Wang Ye.
Luckily, so far, the relationship between Wang Ye and Nova hadn’t crossed any normal boundaries.
While Wang Ye was indeed caring toward Nova, it was merely the care of a leader towards a subordinate; at most, it resembled the concern a "brother-in-law" would show for his sister-in-law, devoid of any romantic involvement.
As for Nova’s feelings toward Wang Ye, these consisted of admiration, reverence, awe, respect...
A mix of emotions, to be sure. If a problem were to arise, the odds were that it would start with Nova.
Therefore, Angelina specifically brought up this topic today, hoping to move Nova away from Wang Ye’s side before anything happened.
Given how busy Wang Ye was, if Nova no longer acted as his assistant, their chances of meeting would likely become much less frequent...
Unfortunately, Nova failed to grasp her sister’s "kind intentions," innocently expressing no grand aspirations and a desire to work by her "brother-in-law’s" side.
From her perspective, there was no mistake—Wang Ye was not some outsider. Calling him "brother-in-law," as he was her sister’s boyfriend, didn’t seem excessive—it was certain he would not mistreat her and would actually take good care of her.
With such a powerful "mountain" to lean on, why should she go out and struggle on her own? The hard work was exhausting, and the status and power might not even match up to what she’d have as Wang Ye’s assistant...
Not just "might not"—certainly wouldn’t!
...
Listening to the sisters’ conversation, Wang Ye seemed to grasp a bit of Angelina’s true thoughts. He laughed and said,
