Chapter 1029: Chapter 914 Someone Above
It wasn’t just the Ambassador from the United States who came up empty-handed at Gu Qima’s; other ambassadors from various countries, such as those from England, France, Germany, and Canada, similarly returned without success from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
These ambassadors raised their concerns en masse, questioning whether the actions taken the night before had infringed upon citizens’ human rights, whether they were suppressing competitors, and whether it meant Ukraine was moving towards autocracy...
Alas, Ukrainian diplomatic personnel could not offer them any definite answers since these staff members may not even know as much as the ambassadors did!
They could only suggest to the ambassadors, with all due delicacy, to return to their embassies and wait for notification, as the situation was quite complicated at the moment.
However, from the standpoint of the ambassadors’ statements, it was evident that this incident was far from over.
If the aftermath couldn’t be elegantly resolved, it would lead to significant external pressure, posing the first test for Yanukovych and Yulia since they took office.
It remained to be seen whether they would be able to successfully navigate this hurdle.
Compared to the large-scale protests, the difficulties they now faced seemed far simpler.
These matters had nothing to do with Wang Ye; not even news of his presence in Kiev had leaked out, and only a handful of people were aware of it.
While Gu Qima, Natalia, and others were swamped with urgent matters, Wang Ye was also busy, as Gavriil’s call had come through.
Clearly, the events that unfolded in Kiev the night before were already known to the Kremlin.
"You... you’ve made quite the big move!"
"This morning, when we received the news, we were all shocked by the number of people you arrested!"
"It’s said that a good number of foreigners died?
You’re really not afraid of international public opinion, eh?"
Gavriil exclaimed with a sigh as soon as the call connected.
He spoke for both the father-in-law and himself, neither of whom had anticipated Wang Ye would go to such lengths...
Wang Ye chuckled, dismissing the concern:
"Afraid of what?
What is public opinion?
The current state of Kiev, to put it mildly, if not for my actions, this country would have been snatched away by others!
Why worry about public opinion when the foremost concern should be survival?
Then comes living better, and only then should reputation be considered.
Besides, don’t the media in Europe and the United States hold the rest of the world to standards they themselves can’t meet? Is that realistic?"
Wang Ye had a bellyful of complaints when it came to these double-standard politicians from Europe and the United States; he abhorred them deeply.
In contrast, even the ’Belarus Left’ seemed relatively endearing.
Hearing Wang Ye vent his frustrations, Gavriil could only shake his head with a bitter smile. Was he unaware of these things?
But what could be done?
After all, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus had their shortcomings: they were so penniless they clinked and depended on investments from developed countries to stimulate their economies.
Indeed, when under someone else’s roof, one has no choice but to bow.
He knew that Wang Ye was just grumbling privately; in public, the young man was even more astute than himself, handling things flawlessly.
The Kremlin could hazard some guesses as to why the big stir in Kiev might have occurred.
The father-in-law referred to Wang Ye’s initiative as the "Big Cleaning of Kiev" in front of Gavriil!
Even someone as seasoned as he couldn’t help but worry for Wang Ye.
Fortunately, Wang Ye oversaw the cleaning operation smoothly, capturing or killing those who should be, and missing hardly any targets.
As for any subsequent issues,
after this grand cleaning, naturally, there were numerous benefits for Wang Ye’s faction.
His faction included Yanukovych, Yulia, Gu Qima, and Natalia, all from the Ukrainian side; there was no need to mention the Russian side.
However, the gains for Wang Ye’s allies varied.
Yet, those who benefitted the most weren’t any of these people nor even Wang Ye, but the unseen Kremlin!
Because of Wang Ye’s turmoil, it was as if Ukraine continued to obediently play the role of "little brother," no longer attempting to exchange coquettish glances with Europe and the United States!
The impact may not seem substantial now, but looking back in ten or twenty years, the massive influence Wang Ye’s current actions have on Eastern Europe and even global affairs will become clear!
The Kremlin may have sensed this to some extent, but it wasn’t completely certain.
Thus, they offered limited support to Wang Ye’s overall plan, allowing him free rein without any constraints.
...
"With your affairs thus concluded, it’s about time for you to return, isn’t it?
After being out of the public eye for a while, and not allowing hospital visits, rumors have started circulating.
If you don’t show up soon, I’m starting to feel the pressure here."
Gavriil shifted the topic.
Wang Ye was somewhat surprised, rumors?
"What kind of rumors? I’ve only been out of sight for a few days," Wang Ye asked with a laugh.
Gavriil sighed deeply, "Ah, what else could the rumors be? You’ve made too much of a splash and have drawn envy; now you’ve been ambushed and are fighting for your life in the hospital.
There’s even talk that you might not make it and people are already discussing who would be best to take over your positions as Faction Party Leader and Vice Speaker."
Wang Ye gave a wry laugh, aware of how daunting rumors can be.
He hadn’t expected that even his every move would draw so much attention.
But that was not surprising. Despite his not-so-high profile appearance within the upper echelon.
