Chapter 86: Stealing Spouses

Koa led the way to their cabin, a masterpiece of merman craftsmanship. The exterior walls were covered in iridescent pearls, meticulously arranged in intricate patterns. Everything is so beautiful that it doesn’t look like right after arriving at the South Merman Tribe Astri is already facing hard times.

She ignores the looks of the people towards her and her spouses, and whispers of females to other males:

"Why is that hot guy carrying that little female? Is she so weak he needs to carry her?"

"She must be a very weak female for not being capable of walking by herself."

"She must be ashamed of her body. Look at her clothes, covering most of her body."

All of Astri’s group are furious hearing those whispering. Koa is too but he’s also ashamed that his people are treating the Goddess like this.

He jumps on a big rock so everyone can see.

"We have very special guests in our tribe now. I want you to treat them as Kings and Queen. If I hear or see any of them being badly treated by ANYONE, you will be banished to the deep waters of the cemetery." Koa says loudly.

Everyone stayed in silence. Koa goes down and looks at Astri.

"Thank you." She smiles.

He nods with a little smile too. He brings them to the cabin that was prepared. Xandra accompanied them trying to pull some conversation with Cyprian, Zin, and Lee, but they ignored her.

Koa leaves them to relax, saying he will be back to invite them for dinner. Koa pulls Xandra by her arm to remove her from inside the cabin.

"Stay away from them. Don’t play with her." Koa warns Xandra.

"It’s not my problem if she can’t hold her spouses. That only means she’s not good enough. Are you jealous of them, dear? I told you I can be your female anytime you want." Xandra says, feeling very sure of herself.

"I don’t want a dirty female. And I’m warning you again. Don’t play with her. You don’t know what you’re dealing with." Koa says seriously and walks away.

Xandra pretends she didn’t hear anything and walks away too, but with more plans in mind.

"Why was that female looking at you as you were dinner?" Astri asks.

"Mermaids are the dirtiest. They know they’re good-looking and they like to steal spouses to prove that." Lee says.

"Steal?"

"Changing mates is hard, but it’s possible. They have sex with the male and kill the previous female spouse so they don’t feel the backlash." Beau explains.

Astri is astonished.

"What evil things. Beautiful on the looks but devils inside." She says.

"We will protect you. Don’t worry." Wayde pats her head.

"You need to protect yourselves. That Xandra is a master whore, don’t drink anything coming from any female. They look capable of doing anything to accomplish something. From where I came from, this kind of people liked to poison drinks to take advantage." She speaks.

"We would never exchange you." Zin says.

"You would be stupid if you did." Shan speaks.

"Go clean your feet carefully, guys. That dirt is just.. Argh. Goodness sake. Females here die from each other and from diseases, it must be even more rare to have a female here." She says walking away and looking through the window.

The view is beautiful, she can see the whole village. Astri can only hope to have a peaceful time there.

At the end of the afternoon, they’re called by Koa for them to come to the Leader’s Hall. It’s like a big cabin where leaders gather people for meetings. Everything is beautifully decorated, with bright color flowers and Astri is loving it.

She loves flowers and those different kinds of flowers are calling her whole attention, making her ignore the mermaids wearing tiny clothes.

"Koa, can I try to bring some of these flowers? They’re so beautiful. Is there any that has medicine utility?" She says after sitting in the circle near the feast of different fishes, seafood, and fruits.

She sits on a kind of seat futon made of a fabric with colorful textures. Touching it she could feel the different texture.

"I don’t know much about medicine. Our Elder is our doctor too, he’s arriving and you can ask him if you want. You can take anything with you." Koa answers.

Xandra is clearly jealous of the way Koa is treating Astri.

"Koa, can you make my plate, dear?" Xandra asks Koa, then touches Lee’s hand. "And can you serve me a drink, dear?"

"You have arms and legs." Lee bluntly answers.

Xandra chuckles, not affected at all. She’s actually enjoying it.

"Is she that good for you to be this protective? I don’t see her protecting you like this." Xandra says getting closer.

"She doesn’t have to waste her time with low creatures. Now if you keep acting this way and disrespecting us, we will leave. We don’t have to be nice to people who don’t respect us." Claud coldly speaks and Xandra bites her lips.

Now Claud could hit her. Xandra looks at Astri, who’s ignoring her presence totally. Claud can read in her mind all the murderous thoughts.

"Leave, Xandra. You’re humiliating us with your behavior." Koa orders.

"But.." She tries to say but Koa interrupts being more aggressive.

"Now. Don’t think that just because you’re my cousin and daughter of the previous leader I won’t banish you. If you make our great partners leave you will have even worse consequences."

Xandra burns in anger and leaves, stomping her feet like a spoiled princess.

"I’m sorry, Astri. She won’t get near you again." Koa says to Astri.

"She will. She’s very obvious. But don’t worry. She is not the first female that hates me and won’t be the last." Astri shrugs her shoulders.

After a few moments, a merman with long white hair and a thin body arrives. He’s very old. It’s the first time Astri sees a beastman that actually looks old. He looks at Astri and immediately his jaws fall to the ground, he kneels and bows his head deeply.

"Oh my... I’m not worthy of your presence, Great Highness." He says.

The other tribesman looked at him not understanding what he was doing. They were wondering to whom the Elder was bowing like that. The Elder doesn’t bow even to their leader, so it’s a shocking scene for all of them.

Claud can sense that this Elder is someone experienced in life and has great respect for Nature by sensing Astri’s energy so quickly. Koa walks to the Elder and brings him somewhere else to talk.

"Leader Koa! How didn’t you tell me that someone this important came here? She’s a Goddess. And there’s another one there that is like a God too. If I knew I would have ordered a bigger feast, better places. I wouldn’t have taken so long to come to greet them!" The Elder whispers angrily.

"Elder Jin. The Goddess asks to keep her identity hidden as much as possible. She wants to prevent monsters from coming here because of her." Koa whispers back.

"Oh.. She’s kind for thinking about our safety."

"I need your help to keep females away from her and her spouses. Xandra is already making things hard."

"Xandra wants more males than her womb can handle. I’ll help with what I can. Who’s the other that has strong energy like hers?"

"It’s one of her spouses. He’s an unicorn and is very strong. We were attacked by the Kraken and he could hold it by himself. Astri could talk to it and now the Kraken follows her orders. She also asked the Kraken to never attack a merman that is not a feral."

Elder Jin smiles widely and is thrilled.

"The Goddess of Nature is amazing and powerful. We’re so blessed to have her here. Astri is her name?" Elder Jin speaks.

"Yes. She asks to call her by her name. Let’s go back, please restrain yourself and stop bowing."

Elder Jin takes some breaths to prepare himself before going back like he’s going to see his greatest idol. They walk to where Astri and the others are.

"Leader Koa explained the situation. I’m sorry for my behavior." Elder Jin says to Astri, bowing his head a little.

"Don’t worry. You must be the Elder that Koa talked about." She says.

"Jin. Jin is my name."

"Elder Jin. I have a lot to ask you about the plants on your island, but first, let me ask you about something else. What are the diseases that happen more frequently around here? The females die young?"

"Yes. Unfortunately, our females die young. That’s why we do everything to have more litters."

Astri tells Elder Jin and Koa about the diseases they can get from lack of sanitary cleaning, being the highest probability of early deaths of their tribe. Then let them know how to improve that.

They’re thrilled for being taught such valuable knowledge that will change the future of their tribe. Also, Astri wants to learn and do something while they wait the construction of a new propeller for the ship.
