Beast Taming? Nah, Dragon Herding is Way Better! -
Chapter 130 130: The Partners From the East
Seeing that the two competitors in the distance appears to be genuine in their desire to just spar with him, the emperor-like young man smiles as he nods his head to them, acknowledging their intent to fight with a nod before he replies.
"Let's fight then"
Hearing the words from their target, both the soft-spoken lady and the young man accompanying him looks at each other with a smile of excitement appearing on their faces, the two of them nodding at each other before they once again directed their attention towards the opponent just some distance away in front of them.
Looking at him with appreciation in their eyes, the two of them bows briefly before facing him again, now a bit tensed as they prepare themselves from whatever offensive Diluc might throw their way, the nod earning an acknowledgement from their opponent as well, who appears to be quite looking forward to facing the two of them.
Merely letting himself float right in his previous location, Diluc then notices that his friends are just some distance away from him, their current location being on one of the spires previously occupied by the three nobles he just dealt with, said friends looking at him with clear worry obvious in their eyes, something that doesn't manage to get pass his sharp senses.
"We should help him…" looking at the young man leisurely floating in the air being propelled by the continuous burst of fire elemental spell right underneath him, one of the friends, a dignified-looking, fair and demure beauty with a long, pointed ear, an indication of her elven lineage, suggested to the other two, who nods in agreement of her words.
"Alea is right, it does looks like he need some help, those two, they're dangerous than those previous three…" after nodding at the words of this lady, identified to be the elven princess, another lady added, her appearance bearing a striking resemblance to the elven princess, albeit appearing to be more mischievous and cunning than her.
"Miss Alea, Miss Alfia, I don't think Diluc would appreciate your help…" meanwhile, opposing the words of the two elven beauties, the last one of the group, a frail, timid-looking young man said with an unusual amount of certainty and determination on his usually meek and modest voice, his eyes shining brightly as he observes the emperor-like young man who appears to be way too calm in this situation.
Given that the three are just a little bit of distance away from him, not to mention the fact that his senses had been enhanced even more due to his contract with multiple dragons, Diluc easily managed to catch their conversations, making him smile in appreciation knowing that they are still willing to help him despite completely knowing that the opponents he is about to face are both dangerous in comparison to the three young noble he just dealt with previously.
"While I am honored with the elven princess and the young duchess' concern, there is not a need for too much worry, if anything, you two should be more worried for yourselves since I will charge an extra for dealing with these two" assuring the three as he turns his attention towards them, Diluc declares with confidence in his tone.
Despite being assured though, the two elven beauties couldn't help but truly worry for themselves as they heard the latter part of the young man's words, making them feel like he is about to make their pockets burn more than the previous deal between them already did, this fact making them shake their head as a wry smile appear on their face.
Despite this little worry though, they just couldn't help but praise the certainty in his declaration, making them wonders just how is it that he is still able to remain calm facing unfamiliar opponents like that.
If only they knew how this opponent, dangerous to them, looks like in their friend's eyes.
'They look like they are quite skilled compared to those three… and besides that, the way the mana is reacting around them… sure is peculiar, not to mention the details on that weapon…' observing his two opponents completely as he notices all sorts of things uncommon in them, Diluc thought to himself, the detail that especially piqued his attention being the total opposite of the weapon they are wielding.
The young man, true to his seemingly low-profile nature, wields a quarterstaff, an armament rarely used by both mages and martial artists, said quarterstaff being void of any decorative trimmings at all, only the wooden pole and nothing else, and yet it still looks like something too dangerous in the young man's hand.
On the other hand, completely opposite to her modest and soft nature, the soft-spoken lady wields a weapon of the same type as the young man, being a polearm as well, only hers having a sharp, cold weapon on one end, the entirety of her weapon being metallic in nature, decorated by a dragon coiling from the upper middle part of the handle soaring all the way to its end, its head wide open and from it, coming out the blade of the weapon like a breath coming out of the majestic, life-like carving of the dragon.
While most of the audience wonders just where did the soft-spoken lady's weapon come from, asking to themselves how can it just appear out of thin air, the more experienced ones already attributed it to the fact that this lady perhaps owns a spatial treasure, something that might put her in danger should greedy and selfish people come to know of it.
Meanwhile, the only person not too interested with the reason of the weapon's sudden arrival and more interested in the weapon itself, said person being the emperor-like young man, observes it for some good few moments before a thought appeared on his mind, something that is completely unrelated with the fight but is just as equally important to him.
[Yes, the dragon depicted on that lady's spear is true as well, those of that form being dragons from the immortal progeny]
'So Ygg and the other's form are not the only appearance of dragons there is huh…' recalling the fact that the three dragonesses residing in the Draconic Realm having their draconic form being those of towering figures with their wing spans enough to make the skies dark, the emperor-like young man smiles as he discovers that there are other shapes and forms that dragon can have.
Now that his curiosity is sated, there is another thing mentioned by the Dragon Herding System that piqued his interest once again, however, he is well aware that it is hardly the time for any of that given that he is about to fight these two high-caliber competitors.
'Tell me about that immortal progeny at a later time' Diluc mentioned before he starts approaching the two, his movement alerting his opponents as they go into a stance, one of them, the lady, placing their feet solidly on the ground, spreading them a few steps apart, raising the sharp edge of her spear at her head's height while her eyes focused on Diluc, prepared for anything that he might throw at their way.
On the other hand, contrary to the soft-spoken lady, Zixiang's orthodoxic and seemingly well practiced stance, the young man, Changsheng's entire form appears to be something completely beginner-like, merely standing straight in place while carrying the quarterstaff on his shoulders, giving him the air of someone free and unfettered, and yet despite that, his eyes still carry the seriousness of facing an opponent possibly far stronger than him.
Moments of silence, not only between these two forces about to clash, but even in the audience, the other competitors in the arena, and even in some instructors and staff of the academy, passed, the tense atmosphere as everyone begins to wonder what is about to happen collapses at the emperor-like young man enters the duo's attacking distance, making the two of them smile as they immediately acted upon this opportunity presented to them.
Clenching the spear harder in her fair hands as her eyes lock on Diluc, Zixiang's lagging foot twists forward, creating a momentum from the very end of her body being carried and amplified all the way through as she twists her hips then her back, the force arriving on her leading hand and reaching her spear as it thrusts forward, mana gathering at the very tip of the spear, launching through in a condensed, sharp manner racing to meet the young man in the distance.
Meanwhile, Changsheng already disappears from his previous position, not making Zixiang worry as she already knew where he is going and where he is about to appear next, this strategy of theirs something that they perfected after years of working together, a strategy that they used in order to take down people stronger than them.
As the surge of sharp, pure mana approaches Diluc, a shadow appears on his back, on them, eyes like that of a hunter eyeing prey glows brightly, prepared to hit him with all the force they can muster.
