Chapter 53: I Already Know

Chen Guan seemed to become an outsider, while his mother Chen Yulian was very fond of Ji Nanhong, holding her hand and chatting warmly.  

Ji Nanhong didn’t need his help at all; her words and actions were very appropriate, even to the point of controlling the entire rhythm of the conversation. She kept Chen Guan’s parents laughing nonstop, and everyone was very happy.  

Chen Guan was also glad not to have to socialize. He sat alone in the small courtyard, basking in the sun while pondering the matter of the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue.  

Now, everyone believed Wang Lian had obtained The Epang Scripture, but Chen Guan knew clearly that the final part of The Epang Scripture was not on the Fifth Peak of the Great Black Heaven.  

He guessed that the last part of The Epang Scripture was most likely related to the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue. Otherwise, why would the statue have a special state?  

But last night, he had thoroughly studied the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue and found no scriptures on it. This guy couldn’t speak either, so it seemed hopeless to get the last part of The Epang Scripture from it.  

“The final whereabouts of the scripture must be related to that special state. Maybe if I can remove the special state of the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue, I can get the final scriptures from it. But how can I remove that special state?” Chen Guan had no idea for a moment.  

According to the information he had, the divine essence of the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue was corrupted, its intelligence clouded, and its body parasitized by evil spirits.  

When Chen Guan studied at the academy, he learned about evil mystical spirits that could parasitize other mystical spirits, but he had never heard of a case where, after the host was killed and domesticated, the evil mystical spirit could continue to parasitize it.  

Usually, when the host dies, the parasitic evil spirit detaches to live independently or seeks another host.  

That this thing could parasitize a domesticated mystical spirit was unheard of.  

“Generally, to expel parasitic mystical spirits, you need to choose different power attributes specifically. For example, some demon-type parasitic mystical spirits require holy power to drive them out; water-type parasitic spirits require fire power to expel them. Different parasitic mystical spirits require different methods. I don’t know what kind of mystical spirit the evil spirit inside the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue belongs to, or whether it’s even a mystical spirit.”  

Chen Guan thought for a while. If he wanted someone else to expel the evil spirit from the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue, he would have to let others know about the statue’s condition. If someone coveted it, that would be trouble.  

Even if the expulsion succeeded, if the Epang Scripture appeared on the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue and someone saw it, that would be bad.  

“If I don’t ask anyone else to expel it, what other options do I have?” Chen Guan pondered for a moment and suddenly thought of something. He jumped up from the bench.  

Chen Guan’s parents and Ji Nanhong, who were chatting happily, were startled by his sudden movement.  

“What are you doing there? Such nice weather, take Honghong out for a walk and buy some snacks.” In no time, Chen Guan’s mother had already called her by nickname.  

Chen Guan thought the nickname Honghong didn’t sound very good, but calling her Xiao Hong sounded even worse, and Nan Hong sounded too formal. He really couldn’t think of a suitable name.  

Ji Nanhong seemed to like being called that by Chen’s mother. She stood up following Chen Yulian’s words, came to Chen Guan’s side, naturally hooked her arm around his, and smiled: “Uncle and Auntie, then let’s go out for a walk.”  

“All right, remember to come back by six for dinner. Auntie will ask Uncle to cook his specialty—dry-steamed beef and fermented black bean steamed ribs.” Chen Yulian said with a smile.  

Chen Guan unwillingly was led out by Ji Nanhong. He had no interest in shopping; his mind was full of how to get the evil spirit out of the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue.  

All the legendary mystical spirits on the Fifteenth of July Island had been killed. He wanted to get a legendary secret technique, but there was nowhere to obtain one. In other secret realms, killing a legendary mystical spirit depended on luck. Chen Guan didn’t think he had such good luck.

If he couldn’t get anything from the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue, he could only buy a legendary technique core.

But now it was different. The Cheerleader’s Soul could actually evolve the quality of mystical spirit pets. This trait could make Chen Guan a lot of money, enough to buy a legendary technique core.  

The problem was legendary technique cores were rare. Even if he encountered one, it might not be the one he needed.  

Chen Guan always felt that the secret techniques created by the Ancestral Emperor wouldn’t be so simple as to let only women cultivate them.  

Could someone like the Ancestral Emperor really create such a huge fuss over his first love, collecting secret techniques from across the world, to create a secret technique that only women could cultivate?  

To figure this out, he had to expel the evil spirit from the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue.  

Since he couldn’t ask others, Chen Guan thought of his Cheerleader’s Soul.  

Many human diseases were essentially caused by viruses or similar parasites. Humans themselves had the ability to eliminate viruses.  

If this theory could be applied to mystical spirits, then maybe mystical spirits could expel parasitic evil spirits themselves. Perhaps their immune system wasn’t strong enough or had not been activated, so they couldn’t expel the parasites on their own.  

Chen Guan thought he could try using the Cheerleader’s Soul to stimulate the potential of the Great Black Heaven Demon Statue. Maybe it would work; even if it failed, there would be no loss.  

Ji Nanhong happily pulled Chen Guan to stroll through the streets, buying many snacks and sharing some with him from time to time.  

Seeing Chen Guan absent-minded, Ji Nanhong led him to sit down in a pavilion at the street corner park. She looked seriously into Chen Guan’s face and slowly said, “I know why you don’t want me to tell others about our matter.”  

“What?” Chen Guan was slightly stunned.  

“Because of your family.” Ji Nanhong stared into Chen Guan’s eyes without blinking.  

Chen Guan’s heart skipped a beat: “Could it be that Ji Nanhong found out my father’s identity? No, my father said he wasn’t afraid of being found out. But if she didn’t discover his identity, why would she say that? What went wrong? I really shouldn’t have told her to keep it secret. Instead, I aroused her suspicion, making her investigate my family.”  

“What are you talking about?” Chen Guan pretended to be puzzled as he looked at Ji Nanhong.  

“Actually, you don’t need to hide it from me. I think Auntie’s profession has no problems at all. You really don’t need to have any psychological barriers because of it. No profession is noble or lowly. A mother does any job for her children and family, and that’s great.” Ji Nanhong smoothed her beautiful hair and said seriously, “I really think Auntie is outstanding. She’s a very, very, very good woman, a great mother, and a successful professional—a strong independent woman with her own personality charm. I hope I can be as excellent as her in the future.”  

“What exactly is she talking about?” Chen Guan was full of question marks and for a moment didn’t know what to say.
