Beast God
Chapter 37: Falling

At this moment, the elite team had already broken through the Horde of Shituos, and the Horde did not choose to pursue them but surged toward the Shituo King instead.

Ji Nanhong believed that the chance to kill the Shituo King depended on surrounding him, not being surrounded by the Horde.

“Quick and decisive. If we can’t take down the Shituo King before the Horde encloses us, then we just accept our fate,” Ji Nanhong said as she swung her bone whip and charged forward.

Qin Ziyu did not dare to slack off either and coordinated with Ji Nanhong to surround the Shituo King. Rouge the rabbit spirit also erupted with terrifying combat power, blocking the Shituo King’s bone club.

Only Chen Guan was watching from a short distance, observing both the battle and the situation of the Horde.

“The fewer people who know about the Epang Scripture, the better. Ji Nanhong is powerful, but not irreplaceable. Since we already know the Shituo King’s weakness, once she retreats, we also have the ability to kill him. It’s not too late to empower Qin Ziyu then,” Chen Guan thought to himself.

However, things developed in a direction Chen Guan had not anticipated. When Ji Nanhong, Qin Ziyu, and Rouge cooperated, they actually found a real opportunity. The tip of Qin Ziyu’s sword emitted a flash of sword light and struck the connection point of the Shituo King’s spine, breaking it and splitting it in two, immediately weakening its power significantly.

After the two parts separated, Rouge slashed one of the Shituo King’s arms with a blade, and the blade instantly sank half an inch into the bone.

Although the Shituo King’s body was still tough, it was no longer as invincible as before.

Everyone was overjoyed. Ji Nanhong rushed forward to try to finish off the Shituo King as quickly as possible, even if it meant killing only one of them.

Chen Guan also moved toward their direction, fearing that someone might be surrounded by the Horde, which was already charging up.

After its body split, the Shituo King unexpectedly turned and fled, completely catching everyone off guard. They watched helplessly as it jumped into the pitch-black fissure below, with no time to strike it down.

Ji Nanhong swung her whip to try to block one of the Shituo Kings but missed, forced to helplessly turn and face the surging Horde behind them like a tide.

“I’ll clear the path ahead; you all follow behind. Whether you can break through depends on your own fate,” Ji Nanhong said, preparing to face the Horde.

Suddenly, something appeared behind her, wrapping around her body and pulling her into the air, hurling her down into the fissure behind.

Almost at the same time, the same thing flew out from the fissure and wrapped around Chen Guan’s body, dragging him to fall into the fissure as well.

Qin Ziyu reacted and wanted to slash that thing with his sword, but it was already too late. He could only helplessly watch Chen Guan and Ji Nanhong plummet toward the fissure.

With a thought, Chen Guan’s mind triggered Rouge to leap up and transform into countless blood-colored particles that fused into his body in midair.

Chen Guan felt his body continuously falling, no longer knowing how many meters he had dropped. Around him was pitch black; he could see nothing.

He tried hard to discern his surroundings but couldn’t see anything clearly. He stretched out his hands to grab blindly but caught nothing.

The thing that had pulled him down was no longer on his body, and he had no idea what it had been.

Gradually adapting to the darkness, Chen Guan noticed a faint light below. The light was very weak, like moonlight on a cloudy night, just at the edge of the darkness below.

“Water... there’s water below...” Chen Guan, who had already been despairing, suddenly felt a glimmer of hope rising in his heart. That faint light was actually a water source.

Falling from such a height was almost certainly fatal, but if there was water below, maybe there was a chance for survival.

However, at this height, even if there was water, hitting it directly was no different from hitting concrete.

For ordinary humans, falling from a ten-meter-high platform, if their entry into the water was off, they could die instantly. Especially from this height.

Even cultivators’ bodies are much tougher than ordinary people but cannot withstand such an impact. Moreover, Chen Guan’s cultivation level was not very high.

With a thought, Chen Guan took out a Spirit Energy Capsule and swallowed it directly. At the same time, he summoned Rouge to rush toward the water source below first.

Rouge’s body strength was far beyond that of humans at the same level and was not so easily killed by the fall. Letting it break the water surface first, Chen Guan might still have a chance to survive when he fell.

The Spirit Energy Capsule dissolved inside Chen Guan’s abdomen, and a surging primordial energy like molten lava flooded his limbs and body, filling him with hot, rising power.

Boom!

Rouge’s body crashed into the water, and Chen Guan followed closely, falling heavily headfirst into the water.

Almost at the same time, a wave splashed on the other side, likely Ji Nanhong falling into the water as well.

Chen Guan was initially worried that the water was too shallow, which was one of the reasons he had Rouge break the surface first. If the water was too shallow, having Rouge as a buffer might still give them a chance.

Fortunately, the water was deep enough. Chen Guan fell several meters before hitting Rouge’s body. The bottom was still not reached, but the impact force on them had been mostly absorbed by the water, preventing further downward rush.

Perhaps because Rouge broke the water surface first, combined with the Spirit Energy Capsule’s effect, Chen Guan felt okay, except for a dull pain in his ankle and no other discomfort. Rouge’s condition was worse; it seemed injured and could not swim, flailing wildly in the water.

Chen Guan hurriedly summoned it back and then swam to the surface. Looking around, he saw rocks about twenty to thirty meters away and swam toward them.

After swimming only a few meters, he saw a person floating on the water’s surface—it was Ji Nanhong. However, she was clearly unconscious, unsure if she had been knocked out from the fall or nearly drowned.

Chen Guan dragged Ji Nanhong toward the rocks. The surroundings were pitch black, but beneath the water source grew many faintly glowing, colorful corals covering the entire bottom.

The water itself was very clear, but due to its depth, only a small portion of the faint light penetrated, making the whole water source appear dreamlike and mysterious, like an underwater fairy tale world.

Reaching the rocks, Chen Guan did not immediately climb up. He looked around carefully and found no sign of mystical spirits nearby—at least none on this rock. It was too dark further away to see anything.

Gritting his teeth, Chen Guan released Warring States, letting it guard the rock first. After confirming no attacks, he climbed up and then dragged the unconscious Ji Nanhong up as well.

The portion of the rock exposed above the water was a few square meters, surrounded entirely by water. Fortunately, they did not fall onto this large rock itself; otherwise, no matter how many methods they had, death would have been inevitable.

Chen Guan checked Ji Nanhong’s condition and found her upper body was mostly fine, but both her ankles were severely swollen, with two large lumps like steamed buns. It was unclear if they were dislocated or fractured.

It seemed Ji Nanhong had chosen the same water entry posture as him. Unfortunately, she didn’t have Rouge to break the water surface for her, which explained her condition.

There was no rush to treat the injuries now. Chen Guan noticed she showed signs of water choking and immediately administered first aid to revive her before dealing with other problems.

Soon, water gushed from Ji Nanhong’s mouth, her heartbeat returned, and she woke up, coughing violently.
