Beast God
Chapter 24: The Guardian Dog Skilled in Military Tactics

Wang Lian struggled to crawl toward her flexible sword. She was severely injured now, and her flying daggers and ox-hair needles were almost completely used up. Taking advantage of everyone’s attention being drawn to Water Burial Buddha, she tried to retrieve her Miaosha Sword.

Although the Miaosha Sword was not a secret treasure, the materials used to forge it came from rare high-grade mystical spirits. The resulting sword was as thin as a cicada’s wing and as flexible as steel wire forged a hundred times. It looked light and fragile, but ordinary secret treasure weapons could barely scratch it, making it a rare and formidable blade.

If it were just because of this, Wang Lian would not have fought so desperately to get it back. The most crucial thing was that hidden inside the sword’s hilt was something that could save her life.

Given the current situation, Wang Lian knew her chances were slim. Whether Qin Ziyu’s side won or Water Burial Buddha killed everyone, her fate would not be good.

Only by getting the Miaosha Sword could she have a glimmer of hope—though not a guaranteed survival, it was still better than having no hope at all.

Just as she was about to crawl close enough to reach the Miaosha Sword, she suddenly saw a foot appear in her vision, kicking the sword’s hilt and sending it flying far away.

“It’s you again!” Wang Lian saw that it was Chen Guan who had kicked the sword away. Her heart burned with hatred and anger, wishing she could tear Chen Guan apart on the spot.

Unfortunately, she was too badly injured and couldn’t outrun Chen Guan. She could only watch helplessly as Chen Guan ran toward where the Miaosha Sword had landed.

If she still had her flying daggers and ox-hair needles, she would have made things difficult for Chen Guan, but after her fierce battle with Rouge, she had used them all up—there was nothing left to use.

Chen Guan hadn’t picked up the sword immediately but kicked it far away because he was afraid that if he bent down to retrieve it, Wang Lian might ambush him with hidden weapons.

Unlike Rouge, he didn’t have the ability to block Wang Lian’s hidden weapons.

Chen Guan ran while staying alert for any attack from Wang Lian. To his surprise, she didn’t use any hidden weapons. Perhaps she really had none left.

Only after he picked up the Miaosha Sword and turned to look at Wang Lian, seeing that she still hadn’t pulled out any flying daggers or ox-hair needles, did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Wang Lian had already stood up and glanced at the battle situation. Rouge and Qin Ziyu were locked in a fierce battle with Water Burial Buddha, so intense that they had no time or energy to pay attention to her side. She secretly relaxed.

Seeing Gongsun Zhuo constantly searching for an opportunity to assist Qin Ziyu and Rouge, Wang Lian’s heart turned ruthless. Suppressing the turbulent blood energy in her chest, she charged toward Chen Guan.

She thought to herself, “You’re lucky to have such an exceptional pet. I can’t beat your pet, but surely I can beat you. You ruined my plans earlier and now want to snatch my Miaosha Sword. If I don’t kill you, I’ll never be at peace.”

Wang Lian believed her abilities were far above Chen Guan’s. After all, Chen Guan’s level was clear for all to see; he was no match for her. She wanted a quick victory—while Gongsun Zhuo and the others couldn’t catch up—to take out Chen Guan and retrieve the Miaosha Sword.

With this thought, Wang Lian activated her secret technique, her face flushing an unusual red. Even though crawling was difficult, she seemed to have a sudden surge of energy, and she strode swiftly toward Chen Guan.

At this moment, Wang Lian no longer cared about anything else. Even if it meant damaging herself further, she had to kill Chen Guan and get the Miaosha Sword back.

Seeing Wang Lian charge, Chen Guan knew she likely had no hidden weapons left and wasn’t as fearful of her anymore. He immediately summoned Warring States.

Warring States was now a level seven mystical spirit, one level higher than Wang Lian, but its combat power was weaker than an ordinary level five or six mystical spirit, let alone comparable to Wang Lian.

Wang Lian saw Chen Guan summon a Five-Red Dog, but her pace didn’t slow at all. She rushed forward quickly, completely ignoring the Five-Red Dog Warring States.

Guardian Dogs generally had low growth rates. Coupled with poor talent, their combat abilities were the lowest among mystical spirits. They were only used by novice practitioners. Slightly more capable newcomers quickly discarded them.

Wang Lian was already level six. Even if she encountered a level ten Five-Red Dog, she could kill it with her bare hands. There was no reason to fear it.

“Wang Lian, I advise you to be careful. This isn’t an ordinary Five-Red Dog but the world’s number one guardian divine dog. It is fiercely loyal and has battle power beyond imagination. Its abilities rival those of powerful mystical spirits, even legendary-grade ones. Don’t fool yourself.” Chen Guan secretly activated the Cheerleader’s Soul to boost Warring States.

Warring States had poor talent and growth rate, but it was the mystical spirit most easily triggered by the Cheerleader’s Soul. Just by saying a few words, Chen Guan clearly saw the dog’s eyes and aura change.

Wang Lian had already reached close to Warring States. She saw an opening and raised her slender leg to kick it, but just as she lifted her leg, her vision blurred. The Five-Red Dog that had been right in front of her suddenly vanished.

“So fast!” Wang Lian was shocked. She had never seen a guardian dog move so quickly.

She quickly turned her head and saw Warring States had rushed from the side to her front and bit into her other leg that was supporting her body, tearing off a chunk of flesh from her thigh. The pain made Wang Lian grit her teeth.

Suppressing the soul-deep pain, Wang Lian reached out to grab the dog’s head to twist its neck. But as soon as she made her move, Warring States performed a roll, tossing the bitten flesh out of its mouth and leaping at Wang Lian again from another side.

Wang Lian was both shocked and furious. She realized this Five-Red Dog was not only faster and stronger than an ordinary guardian dog but extremely intelligent—almost like it understood military tactics.

She wanted a quick fight, but Warring States kept circling her. Moreover, a chunk of flesh had been torn from her leg, blood continuously flowing, impairing her movement. Combined with her severe injuries, she was far less agile than Warring States.

Warring States circled several times, making Wang Lian extremely uncomfortable.

When she chased it, it ran; when she retreated, it harassed her from the side or behind. This dog seemed to know when to advance and retreat, appearing both steady and cunning.

“This is a dog? Even foxes aren’t this cunning, right?” Gongsun Zhuo noticed the situation. He originally planned to rush over to help, but seeing Wang Lian nearly collapsing under the attack of a guardian dog, he was secretly astonished and carefully studied Warring States.

Wang Lian was bitten several more times by Warring States. Her originally long and beautiful legs were now stained with blood, the bright red nearly dyeing her pants.

“You’re not a guardian dog… what kind of mystical spirit are you…” Wang Lian felt her blood and energy churn in her chest, becoming increasingly uncomfortable. Losing so much blood, her brain began to spin with dizziness. Gasping for breath, she shouted at Chen Guan.

“A genuine guardian Five-Red Dog. You can’t even beat a guardian dog, and when death is near, you still try to twist facts to save face. Women really are unreasonable creatures.” Chen Guan deliberately provoked her, hoping she would reveal more weaknesses so Warring States could have an easier time.

Pft!

Wang Lian was so angry she couldn’t catch her breath. Blood sprayed from her mouth. Her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed stiffly to the ground, passing out from rage.

She had always prided herself on her exceptional talent, even believing she was no worse than Qin Ziyu. Only due to certain reasons had she hidden her abilities, so her reputation was not well-known, and her true strength was unknown to outsiders. But her pride had always been there. Now, humiliated by Chen Guan and severely injured to the brink of collapse, having overexerted her body using secret techniques, she had reached her limit and collapsed.
