Be Careful, Scum Dad! Mommy Is Back! -
Chapter 422: Mommy, Guess Who I Am
Chapter 422: Chapter 422: Mommy, Guess Who I Am
Everyone had already returned to the ship, but Lu Xining insisted on delaying the departure for five more minutes.
Cheng Cang asked curiously, "Are we waiting for someone else?"
A few minutes had passed since they returned to the ship, and if they didn’t leave now, they might attract unnecessary trouble from the Blue Organization’s official forces.
Lu Xining gazed at the darkened sea, calculating the timing for departure in her mind.
"If he doesn’t show up soon, we’re really going to leave." As her voice fell, the sound of something breaking through the water rang out.
Cheng Cang rushed to the railing and immediately locked eyes with a pair of pitch-black, luminous pupils. The moment the eyes landed on him, they transformed into a clear, innocent smile.
"Hahaha." I’m here.
He turned back to glance at Lu Xining and suddenly realized, "So earlier, when you were speaking to him in private, you were telling him to sneak out and find us?"
Before Lu Xining could answer, Cheng Cang continued, "Makes sense. We left him behind on the Royal Cruise right in front of everyone. Even if he later sneaks off on his own, it has nothing to do with us. This way, we clear ourselves of suspicion."
He added sheepishly, "So that was your plan all along. I honestly thought you were going to abandon this poor thing there."
Everyone knows how these so-called experts always keep their own hands clean when trouble’s involved. When it concerns them, they only look out for themselves first.
Calling genuine antiques fake, selling them at inflated prices...
They’re sitting in mansions eating gourmet meals from solid gold bowls, yet still snatch the barely edible scraps from the bowls of ordinary people...
If he really were left to the mercy of those experts, who knows? He might end up sliced apart for research.
Cheng Cang rather liked this young merman who combined combat prowess with sly charm. His personality suited Cheng Cang’s tastes, and he felt they might make good friends.
Lu Xining cast him a sidelong glance and said, "I’ll leave the rest of the arrangements to you."
"No problem!" Cheng Cang replied cheerfully.
He immediately ordered preparations for a seawater bathtub, carefully selecting the largest bathroom space on the ship for the merman.
The young merman brought back a piece of black cloth, which he wrapped around himself below his abdomen. This way, even if someone saw him, they wouldn’t be frightened by his appearance.
Cheng Cang raised an eyebrow. "What’s the cloth for? With your tail, there’s no need for clothes anyway."
The young merman bared his sharp fangs in response.
"Hahaha!" Mind your own business!
Lu Xining returned to her room and replaced her old phone with a new one. After swapping in the SIM card, she dialed Fu Junhang’s number.
"Maa~maa~ Guess who I am~"
A soft, sweet voice came from the other end of the phone.
Lu Xining glanced at the time—it wasn’t her daughter’s bedtime yet. She smiled faintly and pretended to be puzzled, saying, "Who is it? Mama doesn’t know."
"It’s me~ Mama~"
In the children’s room of a castle estate in Country C, Lu Nuonuo lay on the bed dressed in cartoon-themed onesie pajamas, holding a phone larger than her hand, each word dripping with adorable charm.
Fu Junhang handed her a freshly warmed bottle of formula milk and said, "Nuonuo, be good. Drink your milk first. Uncle has some important matters to discuss with your mom."
The moment she heard the adults had to handle something, Little Dumpling quickly passed the phone to Fu Junhang and obediently said, "Uncle Fu, here you go."
In the past few nights, it had been Fu Junhang and Jing Zheng who alternated putting her to bed.
Her reliance on them was growing by the day.
"Nuonuo is such a good girl."
He patted her soft, fluffy head, took the phone, and pulled up the protective railing on the side of the bed. He gently reminded her, "Uncle will be on the balcony to take the call. If there’s anything, just call Uncle, okay?"
Little Dumpling hugged her bottle of milk in both hands, her freshly bathed cheeks rosy and plump, her brows arching as she nodded obediently.
"Uncle Fu, Nuonuo wants to tell Mama goodnight."
"Alright, Nuonuo can say it now. Then finish your milk and sleep well, okay?"
Lu Xining overheard the entire conversation, and was deeply touched by her daughter’s obedient and sweet demeanor. After exchanging goodnight wishes, she heard the sound of Fu Junhang opening the door to the balcony.
The night wind carried a chill, and the man closed the balcony door to keep the cold air from entering the child’s room.
But he didn’t walk far enough to be out of the child’s view.
From Lu Nuonuo’s perspective, she could still see the silhouette of Fu Junhang, which offered her a sense of security.
Based on his understanding of Lu Xining’s temperament, Fu Junhang knew she’d ask about Ji Chao and Ji Ze’s whereabouts. So, he took the initiative to inform her, "The two of them have recently taken an interest in archery. After many days of practice, they’ve been sleeping early at night due to exhaustion."
Lu Nuonuo was accustomed to sleeping in Lu Xining’s room. But since Fu Junhang had been the one accompanying her to sleep lately, his identity wasn’t appropriate for him to stay in Lu Xining’s master bedroom too long, so he stayed with the child in the adjacent children’s room.
Each children’s room included sections for both the child and the nanny.
From an early age, Lu Nuonuo had been sleeping with Lu Xining, so the specially designed children’s room hadn’t been used much.
Fu Junhang stayed in the nanny’s room to be close enough to care for the child.
Meanwhile, Ji Chao and Ji Ze stayed in their own children’s room next door—a room Lu Xining had renovated after reclaiming her two sons. While the room’s space matched Lu Nuonuo’s, the layout was divided equally, allowing each of the boys to have their own bedrooms.
After all, she had reserved an entire floor for each of her sons.
Once they grew older and desired their own private spaces, they’d be free to live wherever they wished.
"Monkey, I really owe you for your help during this time."
Fu Junhang leaned against the balcony railing, looking back at the room where Little Dumpling obediently drank her milk, smiling as he said, "Ningning, we’re family—no need for thanks."
"I can’t take all the credit, either. Jing Zheng has been the one spending the most time with the three children. He had a major surgery scheduled today, so he couldn’t stay overnight at the estate, leaving me to handle bedtime instead. Nuonuo was very well-behaved. She didn’t fuss at all during the night, and in the morning even wakes up on her own to find her brothers..."
They both avoided discussing Haozi.
As they swapped updates about the three children’s recent states, Lu Xining shared details about the Royal Cruise incident.
Upon hearing about the biological experiments, Fu Junhang couldn’t suppress his shock. "I didn’t expect them to dare push the limits so far—to conduct such heinous experiments."
Human greed knows no bounds. Once profit is involved, many forget the meaning of morality.
"What’s your plan for the next step? Xi Juan’s influence isn’t something we can control. Unless you’d consider going back to..."
The last two words went unspoken, but he knew she understood.
Unless Lu Xining chose to return to the Beicheng Family, leveraging Shang Qing’s resources would provide a way to contend with Xi Juan.
But Fu Junhang knew better than anyone that blood relations alone couldn’t forge a sense of family where none had existed throughout her life.
Especially with the tragic end between Lu Xining’s mother and Shang Qing, which only deepened her aversion to returning to the family.
"We’ll talk about that later. For now, the priority is figuring out what Xi Juan wants to accomplish with the Artificial Uterus project."
Lu Xining felt an ominous premonition creep into her chest.
