Chapter 342: Chapter 342 Not Us

Those fatherly comments that constantly say what little girls can’t do this or can’t do that.

Lu Xining hated these pretentious people the most.

Caught off guard by such an emotional outburst from her, Cheng Cang was taken aback and imprinted the impatience at the bottom of her eyes deep into his heart. He admitted that those people indeed had the issues that she had described.

But isn’t the focus now to take back everything that belongs to the Chu Family?

"You don’t have to keep a straight face and pretend to be angry. I know those words you just said were just for show for them."

"But you still underestimate these old foxes. Although they seem to be angered by you, in reality, they are all pretending. Their hearts have gone wild long ago. Even my words might not be taken to heart, let alone a descendant of the Chu Family who they’ve never seen before."

"...What’s most important for us right now is to take back the assets they still have."

Lu Xining looked at the man in front of her, speaking confidently. His hair had grown a bit longer, showing that he hadn’t gone for a haircut lately and was probably planning to grow his hair out.

"Not us."

Her sudden four words halted Cheng Cang’s subsequent response.

Cheng Cang narrowed his eyes at the woman with a cool demeanor in front of him, clearly noticing the indifference in her words that distanced their relationship.

"What do you mean by ’not us’? Are you questioning me?"

He stared straight into her eyes with displeasure on his face, his slightly furrowed brows hiding the emotions deep within his pupils.

She slowly stood up and leaned forward, laughing as she retorted, "Shouldn’t I... question you?"

Her slender and fair fingertips lightly touched the temples of his forehead, the action so gentle like a feather brushing over the cheek, tickling slightly.

Her fingers traced the defined contours of his face, gradually coming to rest on his Adam’s apple, feeling the curvature of its movement beneath her fingertips. The smile at the corners of Lu Xining’s mouth began to grow wider.

The pleasant scent from her body permeated the air as the distance between the two of them narrowed, invading the man’s nostrils and ascending to his brain.

His dark pupils never left her red lips, and as they were about to touch each other, she turned her face towards his ear and whispered something that hit him like a bolt from the blue.

"Without my consent, accurately speaking, without the consent of the Chu Family’s descendant, they would die, right?"

Cheng Cang’s narrowed eyes suddenly stiffened, breaking free from the deliberately created amorous atmosphere, a chill slowly rising from the depths of his eyes.

Lu Xining laughed lightly: "What are you nervous about?"

She patted his tensed shoulders and slowly increased the distance between them, sitting back down on her own sofa.

On the table in front of her was a freshly brewed cup of tea. Lu Xining glanced with her peripheral vision at Cheng Cang, who had regained his composure, and smilingly poured him a cup.

The transparent bracelet on her wrist twinkled as she made tea, particularly eye-catching under the light.

"If you need something from me, then you should be prepared to be at my mercy, right?"

Lu Xining took a sip from her teacup and continued speaking with a light smile, "After all... what they lost is just a life, but what I lost was the wealth left to me by my grandfather."

At this moment, the room was enveloped in the faint fragrance of the tea, and Cheng Cang with his brows furrowed inquired, "Have you discovered something?"

"What do you think I should have discovered?"

She threw the question back at him, with a smile on her lips but not reaching her eyes.

There were things that Cheng Cang did not say, but it didn’t mean that Lu Xining hadn’t sensed the underlying issues.

Cheng Cang kept trying to get her to meet those people, mentioning that the wealth in their hands belonged to the Chu Family, wasn’t he just trying to arouse her greed and desire to possess?

If there wasn’t something she didn’t know, why would they be so eager to force her into action?

If it weren’t a matter of life and death, they definitely wouldn’t be so scared and anxious.

Now that they are panicking, her situation has stabilized.

The man furrowed his brows, intently scrutinizing the seemingly smiling beauty before him, confirming the seriousness of her words.

Upon realizing that she truly didn’t care about the life or death of those downstairs, Cheng Cang’s perception of Lu Xining was once again disrupted by her. He picked up the teacup in front of him, inhaled the tea’s aroma, and began to savor the tea quietly with her.

In front of Lu Xining, behind the man.

An entire wall of surveillance screens, all showing the people downstairs becoming increasingly impatient.

Cheng Cang didn’t turn his head to check their reactions. All his attention was now on Lu Xining; she had transformed from a celestial figure to an alluring demoness on earth, and this stark contrast in vision and psyche made it impossible for him to look away.

And Lu Xining didn’t mind his scrutinizing gaze.

Downstairs in the living room, Lan Jingxu had started to pace back and forth, occasionally glancing towards the direction of the staircase.

"Cheng Cang has gone up for an hour now, why hasn’t he come down?"

Lan Jingxu frowned and said, "It can’t be that he has joined forces with that member of the Chu Family to deal with us, right? That Chu family member does have a perfect figure and face. It’s only natural for Cheng Cang, the inexperienced young man, to not be able to resist."

Fang Lingling rolled her eyes at him and retorted, "Are those two holes under your eyebrows just for decoration?"

"You’re wasting time discussing a woman’s looks and body; you should think about how to save your own lives! If I’m not mistaken, you have all received the ’Death Notice’, haven’t you?"

Zhao Yuanchen was the first to turn pale; he was also the oldest among them, now fifty-nine years old.

When the Chu Family fell into distress, he already possessed memories of that time and had seen how formidable Chu Zhan’s abilities were. Had it not been for Chu Zhan’s yearning for his deceased wife and his readiness for death, not only the people in Beicheng but all those coveting the Chu Family couldn’t stand as a match against him alone.

A genius with a love-struck brain is indeed fatal!

But Zhao Yuanchen could have never imagined that Chu Zhan could see through people so clearly, and while distributing his assets amongst them, he had left behind so many contingencies.

If they failed to return the assets to the Chu Family’s descendants within a set time, their names would appear on every hit list for hire.

An endless fight to the death!

Just a few days ago, he had experienced an assassination attempt. Underneath his suit trousers, there was still a long scar on his leg.

He had no idea how Chu Zhan had managed it, just as he was clueless as to why he was so powerful that he could stand at a peak revered by all, and then leave everything in the world behind without any attachment, just to accompany his late wife.

Lu Xining watched Cheng Cang across from her with a cold face, Fang Lingling’s earlier words serving as the best proof.

He was still keeping things from her.

People who aren’t forthcoming can’t be trusted. When Cheng Cang categorized himself with ’us’, his actions placed him on the opposing side.

Catching a glimpse of the obscure and indistinct emotions in his eyes, Lu Xining remained patient and calm.

All of a sudden, an alarm rang out in the quiet study where they were enjoying their tea; she looked at the surveillance screens only to discover that Zhao Yuanchen and the others were gone.

One after another, the surveillance screens went black.

Lu Xining leisurely raised her hand to pour one last cup of tea for Cheng Cang across from her, hintingly saying, "The good show has finally begun, are you excited?"

The man’s eyebrows knitted together, perceiving the implications in her words.

Just as he was frowning in thought, a series of piercing roars came from outside.

Lu Xining’s fingers gently brushed over the bracelet on her wrist, a smile spreading across the bottom of her eyes, she said scornfully, "Oh dear, they’ve fallen into the trap."
