Be Careful, Scum Dad! Mommy Is Back! -
Chapter 335 Ji Muye: I’ll Pay.
Chapter 335: Chapter 335 Ji Muye: I’ll Pay.
The hospital beds in the lab are custom-made for the patients.
They’re much larger than the beds in a regular hospital.
Lu Nuonuo, a tiny bundle, curled up in Ji Muye’s embrace, being careful not to touch his wounds.
Thus, the pair, big and small, snuggled up together on one bed, asleep.
Lu Xining tiptoed closer and was just about to pick up her daughter to take her away quietly when she saw the man beside them open his eyes.
"..." Waking up at such an inopportune time.
She continued her action, gently lifting her daughter.
Just as she was about to rise, she saw the man’s brow suddenly furrow. Lu Xining lowered her gaze to look at Little Dumpling in her arms; the child had a habit of clinging to people’s clothes while sleeping, not having changed at all, and was presently gripping Ji Muye’s bandage.
The child had quite a strong grip even when sleeping unconsciously.
Lu Xining had no choice but to first put the child down, and while cooing to her, tried to pry open her hand that was holding on to the bandage.
"Nuonuo be good, let go of your hand."
Her voice was tender, and upon hearing the familiar sound, the child on the bed opened her sleepy eyes to glance at Lu Xining and said with a plea for praise, "Mommy, I’ve lulled uncle to sleep."
Lu Xining caught a glimpse of the man beside her, devoid of drowsiness, and pursed her lips to say, "Nuonuo is so great. Mommy will take you back to bed. Be good, let go of your hand, okay?"
Hearing this, Lu Nuonuo truly let go.
"I lulled someone while sleeping," she muttered softly, "Mommy, uncle is sick, he’s so pitiful."
Her little face rubbed against Lu Xining’s chest in her embrace, with a sleepy voice so faint it was almost inaudible.
"Brother isn’t here..."
"Nuonuo looks after... brother... daddy."
Little Dumpling’s unintentional words made both Lu Xining and Ji Muye freeze in place.
The man, with red eyes, said, "Did you hear that?"
Lu Xining glanced into his black eyes brimming with joy and tightened her hold on her daughter’s hand slightly; all the while, she kept silent without answering.
Even though she knew that the word ’daddy’ was likely the child’s murmuring in doubt, perhaps meaning ’looking after brother’s daddy,’ this didn’t lessen the surge of joy bursting in Ji Muye’s heart.
His already handsome features looked much more gaunt from this period, making his facial contours even more prominent.
He tried to restrain the curve of his mouth that couldn’t help but form, looking at Lu Xining, who was leaning over to pick up the child, and said, "She called me daddy."
Lu Xining, returning to her senses from confusion, softly replied: "Remember to video call Xiao Chao and Xiao Ze."
The coolness in her voice doused Ji Muye’s sudden joy with a bucket of cold water, causing him to purse his lips as the happiness in his pupils also retracted.
The two of them were once an intimately close couple.
Having seen her outwardly expressive emotions, Ji Muye understood all too well that her current indifference was more akin to the formalities one has with a stranger.
He couldn’t help but ask, "Must we remain so distant between us?"
The Little Dumpling, who had just been picked up from the bed, clutched her clothes a bit uneasily. Lu Xining kissed her cheeks and gently patted her back.
Only after she fell into a deep sleep did she turn back to the man and say, "Get some good rest. You can call the nursing staff for anything you need."
Ji Muye: "..."
Having grown up in a wealthy family, he was accustomed to seeing couples who kept up appearances in social circles; their way of interaction in public was to treat each other with polite indifference.
An inexplicable sense of defeat turned into a chill in his eyes.
Ji Muye’s gaze slowly settled on his daughter, and it was unclear at that moment whether the emotion in his eyes was sadness or defiance.
But it was only a momentary thought, and he quickly regained his composure and said, "Mm, I will."
At this moment, a very faint knock on the door came from the entrance.
Upon receiving a response, someone pushed the door and came in.
Upon seeing Fu Junhang, Lu Xining’s expression became noticeably more natural than before, "You’re just in time. Could you grab Nuonuo’s coat, scarf, and hat for me? I can’t carry everything."
Fu Junhang, seeing the Little Dumpling asleep in her arms, nodded his head.
Watching the cozy family-like scene between them, Ji Muye’s heart seemed to sink to the bottom of a frozen lake.
Even though he clearly knew that Lu Xining’s feelings for Fu Junhang were not romantic love, but more of friendship or perhaps kinship.
After the scar on his face healed, Fu Junhang’s handsome features were not inferior to Ji Muye’s.
"How about I hold the child? Nuonuo has a good appetite lately and has gained some weight. You’ve just finished an experiment, you might not be able to handle it."
Fu Junhang’s voice was full of deep care.
Lu Xining laughed, "It’s okay, it’s just for a little while. How heavy can the child get?"
"Then let’s go, I just happen to have some things to discuss with you."
"How has Jing Zheng been recently?" Lu Xining asked, holding the child and walking towards the door.
Upon hearing this, Fu Junhang chuckled lightly, teasing, "He’s been recovering quite well. Recently, he even dared to take Nuonuo to the amusement park alone, and got a thorough beating from Haozi and the other lab members. He’s now recuperating in the manor."
After listening, she helplessly said, "That kid really doesn’t learn."
Their interaction with each other was very casual, more like close kin who have gone through thick and thin together.
Ji Muye’s eyelids trembled lightly, remaining silent since the man entered, his gaze shifting between Fu Junhang and Lu Xining, especially feeling a sense of crisis when he saw a certain emotion flicker in the man’s eyes.
Suddenly, his mind flashed to the fact they had not divorced, and he wondered if she felt the same as he did now when he appeared before her with Liu Xixi.
The man lying on the hospital bed could hear their conversation crystal clear.
As they were about to leave the ward, Ji Muye said in a hoarse voice, "Lu Xining, my wound has opened up."
Lu Xining had personally attended to his wounds, so she was very clear about how serious they were.
As a doctor, she was highly attentive to the recovery of her patients.
Hearing this, she handed her daughter to Fu Junhang, instructing, "You take the child back to the rest room first, I’ll check his condition."
Fu Junhang glanced coldly at the man in the hospital bed without revealing his deliberate tensing just now and took Little Dumpling with him, striding out of the ward.
Lu Xining had originally thought the wound had only opened slightly, but upon seeing the bandage gradually soaked with blood, her face immediately turned cold.
Just now, when Little Dumpling was there, his wound was fine.
If it had suddenly become so serious without his own doing, she would not believe it at all.
"Ji Muye, you did this on purpose."
Lu Xining frowned at the man’s wounded antics in front of her, her voice cold, "If you don’t want to recover, I can arrange a private jet for you back to Jingzhou right now. I can’t control how you want to act up there. But as long as you’re here, you must follow the doctor’s advice!"
From childhood to adulthood, Ji Muye had never been scolded so bluntly.
He bore the severe pain and watched her re-bandage the wound, his face stern, clenching his teeth without a word, and quickly turned his face away when Lu Xining’s gaze came his way.
"Now you feel wronged? Do you have any idea how precious the herbs you’ve wasted are?"
Ji Muye: "I’ll pay for them."
Lu Xining: "...Ha!"
