Chapter 52: Vicious Killer
"Hey, are you trying to attack—EUEK!"
Dapper moved in a blur, stabbing the nearest boy in the ribs. With a swift twist of his dagger, he yanked it out in one fluid motion, splitting the ribs and tearing through flesh—some organs even dangled grotesquely from the gaping wound. Blood gushed out like a fountain as the boy dropped to the ground, twitching violently.
"KILLER!! HE’S TRYING TO KILL US! STOP HIM!" the others screamed in horror before charging at Dapper. Some moved at terrifying speed, one even scaling the walls like a gecko.
’So this is how Combat-type systems work...’ Dapper thought, sidestepping a sword swipe that nearly took off his head. ’They don’t just grant skills, but actual superhuman traits.’
The one who’d attacked was a blond-haired boy wielding dual swords. His fluid technique suggested a Swordsmanship-type system. Dapper leapt backward, but the others kept closing in—one even leapt from the wall with animal-like reflexes.
’Fuck. I wish I still had Sprint.’ Dapper cursed inwardly. He had hoped to show them that Mages weren’t limited to casting spells. But the situation had escalated too fast. He extended his hand to cast Fireball—
But suddenly, someone stepped in front of him—it was Shinro.
"Wind Burst!" Shinro roared, hurling a massive gust of wind from his palm. A powerful blast surged forward, sending the boys flying through the air.
Shinro stood hunched over, panting heavily. It was clear to Dapper that he had poured all his Mana into that one spell—it had been strong, but draining.
However, the gecko-like boy scaling the wall wasn’t done. He kept coming, now fully visible to Dapper. His body had partially transformed into a beast with razor-sharp fangs, a forked tongue that flicked around his lips, and clawed fingers sharp enough to shred bone.
In a heartbeat, he pounced—aiming straight for Dapper’s face.
Dapper grinned.
In one swift motion, he pulled a Mana shotgun from thin air and aimed it right at the boy, who was now just inches from tearing his face off.
"Die."
*BANG!*
A thunderous blast echoed through the dungeon as the Mana crystal bullet exploded the boy’s skull into pulp. His headless body collapsed onto the ground with a dull thud.
The remaining four boys froze, stunned. Two of their teammates had been wiped out—by a Mage.
"Oi, what’s wrong? Didn’t expect a Mage to pull that off?" Dapper taunted, smirking as he raised the shotgun. "These tools come in handy. Though, they would be probably useless against high-level Combat users. But for weaklings like you? Perfect."
"YOU BASTARD! DIE!" the blond swordsman roared, lunging at Dapper.
*BANG!* *BANG!*
*CHA–CHING!*
The swordsman deflected the bullets with ease and kept coming.
"Well... crap," Dapper muttered, stashing the gun into his inventory. In its place, he drew a one-handed curved saber and dashed forward to meet him.
---
The three remaining boys watched as the two clashed—sparks flew with every impact. It was like something out of a movie: a Mage wielding a saber against a dual-wielding swordsman.
"H-How’s he moving like that? He’s actually keeping up with Jerry... Even though Jerry has the edge." One of the boys stammered.
"Let’s go support Jerry—and take down the second guy too," another one said. The rest nodded, tightening their grips on their weapons.
"Did you forget about me? Or did you really think I’d let you bastards off the hook?" the red-haired girl said coldly, her staff now in her grip.
"Screw you! You’re the reason this shit started—you can just die!" one of the three boys roared, swinging his axe backward to cleave her in two.
"Ice Shards!" the girl bellowed, slamming her staff to the ground. In an instant, thick jagged ice spikes erupted from beneath them, impaling all three boys.
They were lifted several feet off the ground, their bodies pierced clean through by the icy protrusions. Their blood slowly trickled down the frozen spikes as their weapons clattered to the floor. Consciousness faded from their eyes.
"Y-You bitch..." one of them groaned, right before passing out.
---
Dapper was still locked in a brutal exchange with the swordsman, who’d suddenly grown much faster—fast enough to force Dapper entirely on the defensive.
’Shit, this guy... he’s way stronger than the rest. Definitely the most dangerous.’ Dapper cursed in his mind, gritting his teeth as he parried another flurry of deadly strikes.
Shinro tried to jump in with one of the discarded swords on the ground, but the swordsman sliced clean through the blade like it was butter, aiming directly for Shinro’s neck—only for Dapper to shove him out of the way at the last second.
*CHING!!*
A powerful double-slash followed, forcing Dapper to his knees. He blocked the impact with his saber, reinforcing it with his free hand against the dull edge. But even the dull side tore into his palm, cutting deep into his flesh.
"You bastard... I’m going to kill you," the swordsman snarled, pressing down hard while blood dripped from Dapper’s mouth.
*SHIM!*
Suddenly, a sharp blade pierced the swordsman from behind. His arms trembled, his grip weakening. That split-second was all Dapper needed. He severed the swordsman’s hands in one clean strike, then plunged his saber through his chest, bursting out right through to his back.
"URGEECK!" Blood poured from his lips as he staggered. Turning around in shock, he saw the red-haired girl behind him, clutching a spear with both hands, trembling.
Without a word, Dapper swung once more, decapitating him. The head tumbled to the ground and rolled until it stopped at the red-haired girl’s feet.
"EUEH!" she gagged, covering her mouth before doubling over and vomiting. Shinro was already on his knees, throwing up violently as well.
"D-Did we just... kill six people?" Shinro muttered between heaves.
"I doubt it. I mean, they did die, but I think there’s some kind of enchantment or revival condition that activates after death inside this dungeon. Just a theory... but if not, then we’re screwed," Dapper replied, and right then, several glowing runes lit up beneath the fallen boys. Their bodies vanished—leaving only puddles of blood behind.
