Chapter 973: Chapter 0973: Meeting the In-Laws 6

Aside from Jiang Xiaoyue, Mei Ruolan is currently the only female comrade in the Jiang Family, and she’s enthusiastically serving tea and pouring water.

Since their hosts were so meticulous in their courtesy, it would be inappropriate for them not to reciprocate, wouldn’t it?

Feng Qingxue stood up to receive the enameled mug with both hands, "Comrade Ruolan, please sit down and rest, there’s no need to hustle. Our children have become revolutionary comrades, so we’re no longer outsiders to each other."

"It’s nothing, really, I haven’t done much, just poured some boiling water. You go ahead and chat, I’ll go cook."

To welcome the in-laws, the security guard had been sent away early by Jiang Yun to the security camp to rest.

Feng Qingxue immediately put the enameled mug on the coffee table, "I’ll help you, my cooking skills are quite good."

"Me too, me too!" Jiang Xiaoyue instantly ran between them, taking an arm each, "My cooking is also really good, Auntie Snow, let me show you!"

Mei Ruolan, who normally wouldn’t allow guests to cook, suddenly swallowed her words.

She carefully observed the Lu Family’s faces and saw no dissatisfaction with Xiaoyue’s behavior.

The Lu Family valued the Jiang Family, and wasn’t the Jiang Family equally appreciative of the Lu Family?

Therefore, the Jiang Family had prepared a rich variety of dishes, and they had gone through great lengths to obtain the meat and vegetables now in front of them. Mei Ruolan planned to make a braised pork, a white boiled shrimp, a braised tofu, a scrambled egg dish, in addition, a cold pig’s ear dish, and a soup with greens.

The regulations allowed for no more than four dishes and one soup, so they were technically breaking the rules today.

Feng Qingxue and Lu Jiang knew that life was not easy for any household, so they had brought their own provisions, exchanging grain for ten steamed buns and ten clay oven rolls, and had packed a lunch box of braised pork from a state-run restaurant. They had lined up early to buy a roast duck, sliced and boxed to bring over. Knowing Jiang Yun liked peanuts, they specially brought spiced peanut kernels preserved in a canning jar.

"You’re all too polite, going to such expense," said Jiang Yun, unable to help himself when he saw the additional food on the table.

Lu Jiang smiled, "If it ends up in our stomachs, it’s not a waste."

Food is essential to life, and eating is of utmost importance.

Lu Tianjun didn’t take his seat right away; instead, he opened a bottle of Maotai, diligently pouring drinks for the elders and offering chopsticks, making both Jiang Yun and his son very comfortable. They thought highly of this young man, recognizing his understanding of etiquette and feeling lucky that Xiaoyue had found such a treasure.

The Jiang Family didn’t put much stock in one’s family background; they valued the individual, and since Xiaoyue wasn’t particularly outstanding, they felt almost like they were dreaming to have her matched with someone like Lu Tianjun.

"Please, don’t be shy with us; we’re family now!" Jiang Yun raised his glass to invite Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue to join in, with the latter substituting tea for alcohol.

The Jiang Family didn’t adhere to the custom of silence during eating and sleeping, so Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue followed the host’s lead.

Upon learning that Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue had three months of leave, Jiang Yun frowned in concern, but then it dawned on him, "It’s that new commander, Hen Xiangqian, who’s stirring up trouble, isn’t it? That old rascal, heh, same old nasty character! Don’t worry about it; while he may have some skills, he’ll find it hard to win people’s hearts. No matter how hard he tries, his subordinates won’t follow him."

"We’re not worried; we just need to do our jobs well," Lu Jiang replied, refraining from commenting on Hen Xiangqian’s character. They hadn’t even brought him up before Jiang Yun mentioned him.

Jiang Yun nodded, about to say something, when a loud knocking came from outside.

"Xiaoyue, go open the door!" Jiang Yun said casually.

The meeting between the two families was harmonious, and Jiang Xiaoyue was so happy she couldn’t contain herself. She stood up and skipped to the door. The person on the other side started with a torrent of angry curses, "Jiang Xiaoyue, you’ve really done it this time! Do you even consider the Li Family in your eyes? What do you think of our Li Jun? Have you forgotten your engagement to Li Jun?"
