Chapter 946: Chapter 0946: Old Friends Help 4
Meeting his lifesaver, He Hongjun was very happy, with a radiant smile constantly on his face. He became much kinder to Meng Shouguo and the staff at the salvage station. Pointing at the things unloaded from the truck, he said, "All these items have been delivered. Just like before, you guys need to arrange for the staff to sort them out and then send them off to the paper mill and the steel plant, don’t let them go to waste. Leave those porcelain decorations be, don’t just break them. Later, they’ll be handed over to the cultural relics department."
"The cultural relics department?" Feng Qingxue asked curiously.
"Yes, first hand them over to the cultural relics department, then they’ll be shipped with the department’s batch of items to the southeast coast, where the local trade department will handle the direct export," He Hongjun explained to her, "It’s recycling! Many of these items are handicrafts which foreigners like. We use them to exchange for foreign currency, which is our way of supporting national construction."
Feng Qingxue nodded slightly, "The cultural relics department you mentioned, is it the Bureau of Cultural Relics?"
"Right, the relics at the Bureau of Cultural Relics are being cataloged. We’ve completed about seventy to eighty percent. Once it’s all done, whatever needs to go to the factories will go, and those that can be exported will be shipped, along with the items collected from various salvage stations," He Hongjun said, "I am responsible for overseeing this part, to prevent anyone from sabotaging the revolution. So I am very clear about it."
Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue were moved, but they didn’t make a sound.
After seeing off He Hongjun, who came to say goodbye to Feng Qingxue and her husband, Meng Shouguo promptly set several staff members to work.
Their busyness did not interfere with Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue’s sorting through the pile of scrap, but stealing things was a bit of trouble—they had to always be on the lookout for someone approaching or casting a glance their way.
Remembering that He Hongjun said the newly confiscated items had been brought here, they exchanged a look and changed their minds, stepping forward to help first.
Don’t underestimate just a few carts of things. They had been brought immediately after a house raid, with no signs of smashing or burning. After sorting things out, Feng Qingxue stole fifty to sixty cultural relics; with Lu Jiang’s myriad ways of covering for her, the careless staff didn’t even notice.
After the help, the couple then plunged into a mountain-like pile of waste paper.
When Meng Shouguo came over and noticed neatly placed blank sheets of paper, some brushes, and household items like cups, plates, and bowls at their feet, he greeted them and walked away.
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, Feng Qingxue continued to focus on the scrap.
For the next two days, they visited the salvage station daily, sometimes helping out, sometimes looking for items they needed, which actually endeared them to the staff who appreciate those willing to work.
On the morning of the third day, when Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue arrived, they found the staff was busy moving pieces of junk metal onto a truck. The pair immediately stepped forward to help, and a question came out, "Are these being transported to the factory?"
It was Feng Qingxue who asked while placing the items on the truck, seizing the opportunity to steal a bronze mirror she hadn’t noticed before.
Through the years of experience, she felt she could call herself an antique expert.
There definitely were mistakes among the antiques she had taken, as some counterfeits were so lifelike it was hard to tell them apart from genuine ones. However, she would rather collect them in her space for future authentication rather than let them be destroyed—there was always a chance that they could be genuine!
One of the middle-aged female workers smiled and said, "Yes, we are sending the scrap metal to the steel plant first."
