Chapter 889: Chapter 889: Family Reunion 1
Along the way, groups of students appeared one after another. The last two groups were not large in number, but when gathered together, they were quite a crowd. This not only caused the train’s food and water supply to run short but also resulted in the train being delayed by a full four hours.
Wang Zhengguo and Guan Cheng were both anxiously waiting, and it was not easy for them to finally see this train arrive at the station. The first thing they faced was a surge of students. With swift judgment and experience, Wang Zhengguo quickly and Guan Cheng hastily moved the mule cart aside, clearing the way and narrowly avoiding the chaos of frightened mules bolting.
"Don’t be afraid, it’s all right!" Wang Zhengguo said, soothing the mule as if it were a child, and patted its head.
After these students had nearly all dispersed, they finally spotted the figures of Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue.
Lu Jiang carried a huge quilt bag on his back, a large sack on his left shoulder, and another big bag in his right hand. Feng Qingxue had a luggage back on her back, a little girl tied to her chest, and was holding Xibao’s hand.
The family of four was particularly conspicuous.
Wang Zhengguo and Guan Cheng quickly stepped forward to take the luggage. "You’ve finally arrived!"
"Uncle, Acheng, didn’t my dad come?" Feng Qingxue was surprised not to see Lu Jiang’s father.
"Your dad had trouble getting out, so Acheng and I came instead," Wang Zhengguo said without any intention to hide the truth, his gaze shifting between Xibao and Fubao, "Time flies by indeed. The kids have grown so much."
"Uncle Grandpa, I missed you so much!" Xibao sweetly called out, pointing at the mule cart, "Can I ride the big horse?"
Wang Zhengguo was pleasantly surprised, "Xibao, you still remember me?" It’s been over two years since we met in the Capital, hasn’t it?
"I am very smart!" boasted Xibao proudly.
Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue didn’t burst his bubble about recognizing people from looking at photos every day.
Lu Jiang’s father and Wang Zhengguo were both received by the old chief, and naturally, Wang Zhengguo was included in the group photo.
"My dear!" Wang Zhengguo hurriedly placed the luggage on the mule cart and reached out to pick up Xibao, his old face blooming into a smile, "Xibao, your uncle grandpa missed you too. How about going home with uncle grandpa? This is a mule, the big horse is at home."
"Okay!"
Fubao was taken down from Feng Qingxue’s chest and held in Lu Jiang’s arms. She rubbed her eyes, glanced at Wang Zhengguo and Guan Cheng, didn’t recognize Guan Cheng since Feng Qingxue didn’t have any photos of him grown up, but she did recognize Wang Zhengguo. Seeing him holding Xibao, she immediately became displeased and said, "Uncle Grandpa, Uncle Grandpa, hold me too! Hold me too! My name is Lu Fubao!"
"Alright, alright, let uncle grandpa hold our Little Fubao!" Wang Zhengguo handed Xibao to sit on the cart and turned around to pick up Fubao, studying her little face that greatly resembled Feng Qingxue’s, "My little darling, let’s go, uncle grandpa will take you home."
After securing the luggage on the cart, Lu Jiang and Guan Cheng sat at the front to drive, while Feng Qingxue asked Wang Zhengguo and Guan Cheng if they had eaten yet.
"The train was delayed by four hours, uncle, you and Acheng must have been waiting all this time, let’s go have a meal first."
Wang Zhengguo waved his hand dismissively, "Don’t, don’t, look at the state-run restaurant, there’s no place for us to eat! Let’s not trouble them, we’ll go home to eat. After receiving the telegram that you were coming back, your dad and the kids were thrilled, they cleaned up the rooms and aired out the quilts early, all waiting for you to come home."
Feng Qingxue looked closely and, indeed, saw many students charging straight into the state-run restaurant. Soon after, sounds of commotion and ruckus emanated from inside. Listening carefully, she heard them cursing at the restaurant for not feeding them and accusing it of undermining the revolution.
