After the train pulled into the station and stopped, they could see many students gathering outside the glass windows. There were both boys and girls aged between fifteen and twenty, wearing red armbands, carrying a red flag, and clamoring as they swarmed aboard. A few even stood guard at the doors, preventing other passengers from boarding before them, only permitting others to board after all of their group was aboard.

Once they boarded, they took over countless empty seats and berths as if it was their right, bossing the train attendants around.

When Lu Jiang took Xibao to use the restroom, they discovered that the carriage was crammed full of these students.

Some teenagers had initially rushed into the compartment chosen by him and his wife, but upon seeing Feng Qingxue in military clothes and Lu Jiang following with the children, his jacket having four pockets, they quickly apologized and backed out.

A long time had passed since the usual mealtime, and neither the dining car attendant nor Xiaowang had shown up.

Fubao, sitting in Lu Jiang’s embrace, tugged at his eyebrows, "Daddy, Baby is hungry. Is there anything delicious to eat?"

Xibao, who had pretended to read quotations while lying on the bunk, immediately flipped over and sat up, "Mommy, your big baby is also hungry, my stomach is all shriveled up, it needs to be filled with something tasty!" She said while patting her own belly.

Upon hearing this, Feng Qingxue didn’t wait for the dining car to come by anymore so the children could have a hot meal.

She poured some hot water into a lunch box to make butter tea, then pretended to take out a stack of flatbreads from her luggage bag, actually from a space, and rolled one with chili sauce mixed with fried white bread strips, handing it to Lu Jiang.

Seeing the jar of bright red chili sauce, Xibao looked terrified, "Spicy spicy!"

"Yes, it’s spicy, children can’t eat it." Feng Qingxue said.

Children like to imitate adults, often thinking that what adults eat must be the most delicious and insisting on trying it themselves. For example, the chili sauce—on the first day of the trip, seeing Lu Jiang enjoy it greatly, Xibao insisted on having some. Lu Jiang dabbed a tiny bit with his chopsticks, and it was so spicy that the little one cried her eyes out, never daring to touch that jar of chili sauce again.

"Mommy, I don’t want the spicy!" Xibao said, "You need to care for your big baby."

"Of course, of course!" He meant that just because there was now Xiaobao, which is Fubao, she shouldn’t forget to care for him too.

Feng Qingxue rolled up a piece of flatbread with non-spicy meat sauce for him, and as for Fubao, she didn’t eat such food, so Feng Qingxue peeled a hard-boiled egg she had bought that morning, planning to fill her stomach with it first, until the dining car arrived to provide her with hot soup and rice.

But after the egg was finished, there was still no sign of the dining car.

Worried that one egg wouldn’t suffice to fill her daughter’s stomach, Feng Qingxue quickly made her some malt essence and took out some egg cakes that she wasn’t too keen on her daughter eating.

The little girl had a particular fondness for snacks like egg cakes, biscuits, milk candies, and canned goods. Probably that was the main reason she didn’t like regular meals much, so unless absolutely necessary, Feng Qingxue wouldn’t let her have snacks at mealtime.

After a long, long time, when it was nearly time for dinner, Xiaowang arrived, sweating profusely.

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, none of us expected there to be so many students traveling together at this station."

Feng Qingxue was startled, "Traveling together?"

"Yes, traveling together." Xiaowang said with a wry smile, speaking in a low voice, "It probably started around last October. Teachers and students from all over have been getting involved in these travels, mostly heading to the Capital. Since they didn’t board our train, I didn’t pay much attention, just heard about it from colleagues who work on the trains to the Capital."
