Chapter 690: Chapter 0690: Gift Character Group Photo 1_1

Wang Fengqiao was walking around in a daze in the courtyard, feeling a mixture of emotions. One moment, she was happy for her brother and Father Lu, the next, she was worried about how her brother might perform in front of the old leader, and then she was thinking about how to flaunt this to their fellow villagers. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, her face alternating between joy and sorrow. If Feng Qingxue didn’t know better, she might have taken her for a lunatic.

Fearing that her sister-in-law might lose her mind overthinking, Feng Qingxue blocked the wind from her daughter with a small cloak. Meanwhile, she asked, "Auntie, we were so busy yesterday that I forgot to ask you about your family. Did you finish everything at home before coming here? How are the children?"

At her question, Wang Fengqiao came back to her senses. She sat on a small stool next to Feng Qingxue and held Fubao in her arms.

"Everything was done. By the time we received the letter from the leader for your father, we were already wrapping it up. After receiving your telegram, we quickly finished distributing the grains, ground some flour hurriedly, and brought it here. As for the children, Xiaoyun is at your uncle’s house. She is intelligent and diligent. Your aunt loves her like her own daughter and often says that she is much better than Jiaojiao, which made Jiaojiao quite upset."

Feng Qingxue chuckled, "How is my cousin doing?"

Despite her grievances, Miao Fengqin still loved her daughter the most.

Wang Fengqiao couldn’t help but laugh, "Jiaojiao is easily appeased with some good food, just like you. Whether you’re at the border or in the capital, she is always included in whatever you send home, and she could not be happier."

Feng Qingxue got the gist of what Wang Fengqiao was trying to say - that Jiaojiao still loved to eat.

"And what about Tianjun and the others? How is Guan Cheng’s medical skills?"

At mention of this, Wang Fengqiao perked up, "The children are doing well. Sister Xu from the barn often helps them with washing and tidying. Guan Cheng’s medical skills is no worse than yours. He often traverses mountains and rivers to collect medicine, helping many people with their illnesses. Now, he’s studying with a famous doctor. The old man asked him to study well so he could go to Medical University in the future! The doctor’s daughter, Li Li, lives in Wanglou Brigade’s health clinic. She is renowned far and wide, even better than you were."

Feng Qingxue was delighted, "I can rest easy then. There are many talented people in the world and me joining the field halfway is nothing compared. It’s not surprising that Comrade Li Li is better than me." However, she thought it was strange that Mr. Li Huaili had taken Guan Cheng as his apprentice.

Wang Fengqiao nodded. She liked her niece’s down-to-earth attitude.

"I think it’s getting windy in the courtyard. You should take the baby and go inside. The wind here cuts like a knife." One cannot expose oneself to the wind after giving birth; it could induce pain and cause long-term health issues.

Of course, Feng Qingxue wouldn’t risk her and her baby’s health. She obediently went into the house.

The early winter wind was very dry, and in the capital, the wind was cold on top of it, even colder than back in her hometown.

Wang Fengqiao re-heated the leftover chicken soup from last night, added in some noodles, poached a couple of eggs, pulled apart some chicken from the soup and spread it over the noodles in the big bowl. She then dripped a few drops of sesame oil on top and brought it to Feng Qingxue.

"Thank you, Auntie!" Feng Qingxue placed the baby down to take the bowl. It was so hot that she quickly put it down on the bedside table.

"Why be so formal with family? Tomorrow, your uncle and I are going to go out and see if we can find a black market in the capital to get you some nutritious stuff. Just look at you, all the flesh you’ve got is on your baby. Where’s your weight gain?"

Feng Qingxue laughed, "Do you want me to gain weight like my cousin did when she gave birth to Goudan? I’d rather not."

Being fair is better than any disguise, but gaining weight ruins everything!
