There was a bit of distance between the military district headquarters, the military hospital, and the barracks.

Guo Cheng promptly saluted the old marshal, waiting until he returned the gesture before replying, "Are you referring to Comrade Feng Qingxue?"

Wang Xinsheng nodded, "Of course, who else could it be?"

Guo Cheng, chuckling, said, "Though Comrade Feng Qingxue is here for a medical exchange, the content of which includes battlefield first aid, she was invited by the military district. Hence, she’ll naturally be staying in the barracks. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have asked me to receive her. If time permits, I might accompany Comrade Feng Qingxue for a visit to the military hospital, but I can’t confirm that as of now. Why do you ask, sir?"

He spoke while looking at Feng Qingxue, returning her salute after she saluted him. It was odd that a medical soldier, only enlisted this year, would have any connection to Wang Xinsheng.

He curiously eyed the young soldier in front of him. Despite her pregnant belly, she was still strikingly beautiful.

"Why? Can’t I ask?" Wang Xinsheng retorted, eyes darting.

"No, not at all. Your concern for the soldiers is appreciated, sir," Guo Cheng said.

Slightly satisfied, Wang Xinsheng nodded and handed Xibao over to Guo Cheng. Guo Cheng almost stumbled under the weight, to which Wang Xinsheng said nonchalantly, "Lady Xiaoxue and I share hometown ties. Furthermore, she is your cousin’s comrade. This chubby little fellow caught my eye, so you better take good care of them. Once I finish my report in a few days, your auntie and I will visit the barracks."

Startled, Guo Cheng responded with a grin, "Rest assured, sir. I guarantee they will not face the slightest inconvenience."

Looking down at Xibao, he thought, Goodness, this kid is heavy!

He should be loved at home, considering he was raised so well in a harsh highland environment.

Feng Qingxue stood still, absorbing Wang Xinsheng’s words which revealed a lot. First, Guo Xiuying was Guo Cheng’s cousin, which explained their family’s tradition of being doctors. Second, Guo Xiuying and Guo Cheng’s aunt might be Guo Yan, Wang Xinsheng’s second wife.

She had never heard Guo Xiuying mention any of this. He really kept a low profile.

Wang Xinsheng turned and told Feng Qingxue, "If given a chance, visit Guo Ming, Guo Cheng’s uncle and Xiuying’s father. If you have any questions, ask him directly. His medical skills are unparalleled amongst Xiuying and her cousins. Even if you only learn a bit, it will undoubtedly benefit you immensely."

"Yes, thanks for the tip, old marshal," Feng Qingxue replied respectfully.
